Tom said in his recent interview that this EP was a complete failiure. The distributor came to his place with half of the records because they couldn't sell them. He mentioned this while answering to whether he was going to release any of his older tracks. The answer was no.
Really don't get it, I have to mention that at least half of this record is pure gem to me. My favorite tracks of it include Whooshki, O'Brien and Falling. Can you link this interview?
I remember being amidst a full blown jailhouse riot and a lot of the tunes from this album playing in my mind amidst the chaos. Anticipating listening to squarepusher again; I reminded myself I only had one week to go. I just wanted to share that because this album helped me through one of the most trying circumstances ever.
@@kj3100 Straight up. I sometimes wish more people listened to the kind of stuff that I listened to, but then again, part of the appeal its arcaneness. For certain minds only lol.
Thanks for this... I have a vynil copy but the pressing is awful, the sound is so low that any scratch can be heard like thunder (should have been a double vynil, it's too long to be pressed efficiently, the more minutes you put on a side, the more you loose in volume and dynamic) and I played it quite often during my dj sets, now the record is just worthless, Whooshky is drowned under a sea of scratches and white noises 😂
16:49 shouldve been 19:48 (1984 cannot be). i knew squarpushers music from "hard normal daddy". then i heard this not knowing it was from quarepusher untill years and years later. loved it the first time, so no suprisse, but still... this album is such a masterpiece.
no sé si es squarepusher, pero solo puedo agregar que fui muy crítico con él hasta que sentó su postura acerca del bebop y la era de Charlie Parker. Ahi se ganó mi corazón, y lo banco (support). Lo amo
don't worry the vinyl was pretty crap? I owned it but even in this rip here you can hear the vinyl noise at the first 30seconds, mine was worse haha, there's so expensive and then you can't really use it..
I had a copy of this at one point but I sold it, I bought it in the late 90s. I think it was not a reissue but just extra copies that were found. It was a really floppy piece of vinyl.
Why did they press >54 minutes of electronic music onto a _single_ record? I'm sure the audio quality of this great EP would be way better if it was pressed on 3x12" or even 2x12"...
Budget, sadly. Tom wanted to get as much of his music out there and money was tight, it was a self and friends financed release, 'Nothing's Clear' was a label set up to release just this EP with Chris Marshall (RIP big man) and I think Hardy Finn and possibly Paul Fowler too who both went on to forge Spymania. Sadly at the time the EP didn't sell at all, and loads of the unsold vinyl was damaged beyond saving when the basement they were being stored in was flooded. The original vinyl is awful quality too, no detriment to Tom, was just a bad batch, the volume of it is about half that it should be and its thin. Thankfully I do still have my copy that he gave each of those he hung around with at the time he was writing this, I also have the amazing memories of this being played as a live PA at Club Trout, magical times...
"everything by Tom Jenks."

@@shakimbush8827 NO, I'd say they mean his old, unreleased (at all) creations. there were - are - plenty.

This is still my faveorite work by Squarepusher. He was going on straight vibes and emotion back then.
This is one of the greatest ever made in my opinion. And made in ‘94, crazy.

It's one of my favorites too.
I own this on vinyl and it sounds like trash, thanks for giving me a nicer way to listen to this wonderful ep.
Anyone tried calling that number?
It was him mom answering the phone...

@@s.e.l.2591 same as my copy, haven't played that much because of that. Still happy I own it anyway
wooshki must be the best long melodic acidtrack ever ... so simple yet so genius
This dude is so on another level and I truly don’t understand how this shit only has around 4,000 views, I literally don’t get it.

Falling is gorgeous
Oh, this is very, very good.
Falling reminds me of -> Theme from Goodbye Renaldo
Great share. This is (along w Crot EP) the only Tom Jenkinson that I don’t physically own copies of. Cheers 👍
i think i have a copy of crot ep somewhere

An EP of 54+ minutes?? More like 2 or 3 EP's I guess?
longest EP I ever seen
EP à la Autechre

i guess at that time he only had this enough money to press it on a single vinyl.

I wonder if this ep is a reference to the book 1984
No, "1994" is the year the EP was released...
It is he put an audio clip from the film adaptation into the beginning of song 1994.
1994 quotes 1984, so yes.
Definitely one of the greatest electronic albums ever made.
