    This sounds perfect for my needs. Right now I have a ADJ DMX Operator that has all 30 banks full, but still isn't made for much of a show. I run sound mainly, and 50% of the time I'm using a bar on each side of the stage with 4 static LED pars on each, so I don't need to use a controller. But the other 50% of the time I bring out all the lights (just more pars and two movers), and need to have them do something. With this, I'll have more than the 12 fixtures on the DMX Operator, and can address each par separately. Right now they are doubled up and on some shows there are 3-4 pars assigned the same address. This seems like it would be easier to control while running sound, and give me more to work with. I've just ordered one today.

    Love the videos about the wmx-1! Please keep them coming!!! I picked one up per your recommendation and I’m loving it . I’m having trouble getting it to work with the 3-D visualizer in my Mac . I’m going to reach out in the learn stage lighting forums see if I can get any help there. Thank you for all of your quick responses in that group! Being a member of the Learn stage lighting community is very helpful.

    QLC+ needs a shout-out here. Incredibly easy AND powerful, totally free, open source and will run on absolutely anything, great community behind it and version 5 is pretty much better than EOS.

    Ty for the video. You covered a lot of things i was wondering about. I want something like an Obey controller for small local shows, to run from foh with smooth transition between scenes, run haze, ability to save scenes so you can jump between them during shows, and doesnt involve tying up a pc. I was hoping that Obey would work the way you thought it should. Guess I'm going to have to take a deeper look at that Wolf controller.

    The Wolfmix is OK but it takes a lot of time to get it to do what you want it to do and it does have some real limitations for sure, it is not as good as I expected when I bought mine and I have spent a lot of time working with it but feel a bit disappointed with some of the results I have got due to it not controlling some features of my moving head lights that easily such as prisms and Gobos. It works well with basic lighting like uplighters and LED pars etc but the more involved the light fixture, the less it can be controlled easily with the W1.

    I don't want anything fancy to control a bunch of basic PAR's. Are the "obsolete" controller still good to basically set the colors, nothing fancy needed? I just use them as uplights, no fancy sequences that need fades between scenes. The WMX1 is way to expensive for what I need.

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, they just don't do fades, which is SO annoying.

    I play in a 4 piece bar band, I'm using two bars on stands with four budget LED DMX units per bar. All controlled with a chauvet foot C2 controller, as we cant afford a sound/lighting guy. My question though is more about the positioning of the lights. My current strategy is to place the lights at the front of the stage (higher than my PA) and point the lights downwards and backwards to illuminate the band. I see many other bands put the lights at the back of the stage, shining forward, putting the band in a silhouette and blinding the audience. Which of either of these strategies is preferable?

      Hey, The most important thing is to see the act.
      When there is some extra money available you can look at adding some color wash from the back combined with your frontlight.

      No, with pretty much any change in console, you'll have to reprogram.

    I'm curious as to why you never talk about ShowXpress. I know you are probably sponsored by Enttec, but because their software has moved to a subscription based service, It almost seems dumb to pay for EMU when Show Xpress is free when you buy the USB box even though the box is a little more expensive, I'd rather not have to pay a subscription. Unless there is a very good reason why you think EMU is better than XPress?

    • @LearnStageLighting
      @LearnStageLighting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don't like showXpress for 2 reasons. First, if you re-patch lights, your existing programming is tied to the DMX addresses and you have to start from scratch. It's very disruptive as it effectively makes any old programming useless if you move a single light in the patch. The second is that we used to use it, but we've had a lot of reports from users and seen from ourselves that ShowXpress is unstable at times. I'm not sponsored by ENTTEC in any way, and in fact we're actually offering the buy back EMU interfaces that we sell in exchange for the future "EMU box" that hopefully will unlock lifetime access. When we do this, we will break even or potentially lose a little on the sale. We do this because we don't have another great option for simple control from stage, and we do believe it is a solid software. But we're not being paid by ENTTEC, it's quite the opposite as we're putting a lot of our time for free to make sure our users are well supported in EMU

      @@LearnStageLighting I appreciate the reply and the clarification. I am in a band that controls lighting from the stage, I have a chauvet foot c2, which is very limiting, and hard to use on stage because it requires multiple button pressing with your foot to change scenes. So since I already use a laptop for controlling the mixer, I'm in the market to control my lights with software and a midi FCB1010 footswitch. Just very frustrating and hard to figure out which program to go with and which one will work best. Again, thank you for response. That buy back program does sounds like a good option.

    After you ruled out the fader based controllers as old hat, favoring a Mac only software package, and showcasing a very interesting digital board that is NOT designed for on stage control, you offered no options or direction for band lighting with stage based control. For my needs, the video was a bust.
