You are good to listen to. I think a lot of us wish we were professional musicians or artists but you can start at any time. I started 2 years ago. I will not give up.

I can understand how you feel about not achieving certain goals in life I originally wanted to be a nurse after highschool but became a personal support worker after struggling at college, a few years later I switched jobs to heavy equipment truck driver which I like doing a lot more. Ever since Covid I made it a goal to experience more that life has to offer by trying new things like learning how to do woodworking, hunting, sailing, spearfishing, Learning Japanese, renovating a house... etcetera. It costs a lot of money to learn to fly in Canada but I at least got to go one time up in an airplane and fly it, it was a lot of fun. I know some people might say I am "half assed/はふあせd" but I am fine with that because at 30 years old I have found joy in trying new things and enjoying the little things in life like watching the sunset over a beautiful location which could make me a professional at enjoying what life has to offer I am also sure you will be able to achieve something similar.

White people are not into over achieving, but in asian culture it is engrained in us to finish everything

    • @co_dy_be_st

@@jaycee_88 you got a point that over achieving is in asian culture but it is in other cultures as well, all ethnic and cultural groups have similarities and differences that is what makes us all human, a group should never be defined by a single person, in my case my last names is "Best" so when I was younger it put a lot of pressure on me mentally and even a bit to this day I was always overthinking and trying to over achieve and be a people pleaser its kind of built into human dna to cooperate in a social group for survival but something in my past I don't know what it was if it was one thing or several but I started to change my view of what is really more important and so for me now I do try to do things to the best of my ability but what truely matters more to me is having a sense that my life has been filled with happiness and other positive emotions and memories and that I spend as much time with family and friends as possible because one day I or they will be gone and yes negative thoughts and emotions still occur but I am the master of my life I choose whether I love it or hate it and accept the negative and move on a skill learned from buddhism. The best way to explain it there was once a man or woman who chased money, power and fame and over the years they got what they desired but in return they lost friends, family and lovers one by one until they were on their death bed with no one there to comfort them then it set in the thoughts of what could have been like I wish I had children a legacy for the next generation or I wish I was their in the last moments my dad was alive ... Etc then they realize one by one they would give up money, power and fame just to get an opportunity to relive their life and change everything they would no longer chase money, power or fame instead they would help the less fortunate, they would spend as much time with family and friends enjoying the little moments in life, they would become a parent and get to witness a miracle of life.

Don't worry about achieving your goals right away. Everyone has their turn in life. Best to find something you absolutely love to do and work at it and enjoy it. The more you enjoy what you are doing the more effort you will put into it. Hope this information helps you out.

the cool thing about art and music is while it can be seen as a competition in terms of acrobatics or definition. theres really a uniqueness about it . a skill that one has developed in academia is entirely different to one developed based on intuition and personal experience. while both are capable of great heights , its easy for society to forget that many of the masters in art have developed thier skill not through academia but through a personal vision, ingenuity , and passion :) coming from a half assed gentleman !

I was an Artist a Sculptor back in my 20s for about 13 years. I was Self Taught, I learned how to Sculpt by myself No Teachers and No Collages. I was a Sculptor who aim for Accurate Sculpting as much as Possible. Unfortunately, Now I'm just a person who takes care of my parents but my Sculpting I want to pass that to the Young Generation. I want you to know Dream, Desire, Wants are all part of what makes someone's work as an Artist or a Musicians Work so Amazing! Beethoven's music and my Sculpting may not look that Amazing to us but to you and the fans it's Truly Amazing and that's Only because of the hard work and Desire to Create something Not Amazing, Not Beautiful but MAGICAL! If you Love something that is a Talent don't wait for a Next Life, don't Wait and don't Wish just Do It, Practice, have Patient and keep working hard on that Career that you Love like Art or a Musician or something and soon you'll be Amazing at that. But don't say you Wish or Wait for another life time because what if your next life you become something you don't want. Don't think that way just do it, put in the effort, put in the work and soon you'll be someone you can't even imagine you'd ever thought you'll Ever be! You'll have an Extra Ordinary record just like Beethoven and All those Musicians and Artists. Peace Shika

I was going to say exactly the same. I watched my son grow up and struggle with the same wanting to be good at many things, and finally settle on viola. He wasn't born with only the desire to do that, and wasn't born with the ability. He experimented and struggled to find something he loved, and then he worked hard every day for many years. Now he's playing professionally in a symphony and doing performances elsewhere because his name has gotten around. There's no magic -- it's all desire and hard work.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I can understand your feelings. Dreaming of reaching top levels is always good. I have heard of reïncarnation and sometimes I like dreaming also of doing things I can't do in this live.
I should like playing drums and percussions as Sandy Nelson, Phil Collins, Chester Thompsom, Carl Palmer, Max Weinberg, Terry Williams, Hannes van Dahl, the Dutch drummers Cesar Zuiderwijk and Roel van Helden or the Japanese drummer MiMi of Tokyo Groove Jyoshi to mention some examples.
But sadly I can't play drums and percussion.
I think you have a great knowledge of classical music. There is so much great music.
In the Netherlands we have one great artist André Rieu with his orchestra. He plays all over the world and even played in Japan.
    Greetings from the Netherlands.

About the artist thing you talked about, I really think you should consider pursuing that. It is absolutely not too late, as someone who is training themselves to be an artist, I think it's more realistic than you think, just 4 hours practice every and some studying with videos and such will mean 1460 hours of practice by the end of the year. It might feel embarrassing and like you are not improving as much as you want but you would have to just trust the process, you are younger than you think. It's obviously your life and your choice but if you want it I don't think it's a waste to chase it, you would be far from the first to try your hand at art as an adult and succeed. You already showed an ability to improve at and stick with something with your English journey, and it might be a good mountain to climb for a mountain person such as yourself :)

You're still so young so you have plenty of time to achieve in some field that you love. Just pick something you love and spend your time there, make it a focus. But you shouldn't be jealous of other people. Even high achievers may have difficult challenges in their lives. Love yourself, love your loved ones, love other people by helping when you can, and do what you enjoy.

Art is not always about how "well" you can do something but about expression. Many artists are not the best but are unique in what they're able to express. The people I admire most are very passionate people because their passion gets passed on to others. You're still young enough to learn many ways of expression, creating, and doing. Some people think trying many things makes you a failure or "half-assed" but it can be necessary to try many things to find the things you love! I think it can be an exciting thought of how many things we've yet to try that we will fall in love with. The problem comes in finding the time.
You have to understand that for every time you look and admire someone, someone is also probably admiring you.

Girl, you can still be a professional musician! Being part of an orchestra or a soloist is honestly pretty difficult and takes many years of practicing, but there are plenty other careers in music that you can focus on. You could study to be a composer, a gigging musician, a teacher, an audio technician, a conductor, an art director, etc.. Don't let that drive go, join a choir or something lol.

    「half-assed」は「ハ フ ア ス ド」と同様言えます。この「ド」は短い「d」の音です。そうでないと、「half-acid」と同様聞こえます。
I hope my explanation makes sense. 😅
Alternatives to, “this may be off the track [...]” (14:43) which are perhaps more commonly used and thus sound a bit more natural:
This may be “off topic” [...]
This may be a “tangent” [...]
Chase your dreams in this life. There is always something within reach. And do not focus on what your are lacking in comparison to others, for such focus leads to envy, jealousy, and other feelings that only serve to hurt you. Instead, focus on your ability to be the change that you want to see in your life.

I don't think you have been half-assed. That word usually describes someone who doesn't work hard. It means you only give 50%. That's different than actual achievements. Maybe you didn't excell in school, or in music, but you do have skills. Maybe some are undiscovered. Your English is very good, and you are working hard to learn words and concepts and are making videos almost daily to practice and share with native English speakers. You're learning a lot, actually, about the world, people, music, art, etc. And you have been discussing those interesting topics with us. That's the opposite of doing things half-assed.
It can be fun to imagine yourself being reincarnated as someone new. But really, THIS is the life you have. You are still young enough to learn new skills and enjoy things you learn, and become a person you are proud of. Reincarnation makes no sense anyway. Why be reborn if we don't actually remember anything from our supposed past lives? Live your life Shika/Olivia/one-day-you'll-hopefully-share-your-real-name! Keep studying and learning, and and you'll figure out what you want to do. I believe it!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and teaching us new things. I was really identifying with some of the things you said, for example I'm half-ass about some things I do also, I wish I would have focused more of the things I like such as science or classical guitar. I took classical guitar lessons then set the guitar aside for too long, lately I restarted focusing on my guitar, which is an instrument capable of making such beautiful music the flesh of the fingers touching the strings, and the ability to make vibrato and legato is so lovely. I also like other musical genres. Yourself reflection somehow seems so angelic, I know that sounds corny but that's how I feel... Btw have you heard The piece adagio in G by tomaso albinoni. Just a thought but maybe we will all eventually meet if reincarnation is eternal ... Take care Shika ❤️

It's okay for you to half-assed thing if you doesn't feel any passion toward any them. If you do thing you hate or you don't like, you will ended up harming yourself. Regardless, you need to find something you want to do in your life, after all there are still time in this world for you to live with before the reincarnation. Just don't commit suicide to make it faster, please I beg you.
Anyway, I suggest you watch some movie from US/UK (any movie with native English actor) and instead using Japanese subtitle or Japanese dubbing, you watch it using English subtitle. This method is the one I use to accustomed my brain to English, it may help you to construct English sentence in your mind faster since it seem you have problem with it. Your pronunciation is already good though, better than mine in fact.
That's it I guess, I pray for you success in learning English until you're fluent and wish you and your grandma a good health.

Life is hard , we are all doing what we can. I just advice you to enjoy little things, you can always learn new things. Maybe if you shift your view from "i want to be professional in another life" to "we wont have another life, so i will be good at what i like now". But the idea is doing it for yourself, not for others. Doing it just for the sake of enjoy doing it. I like making music, is my music good? Absolutely not! 😅 But i have fun doing it and i can express my feelings. Remember: Good is better than perfect.
I dont believe in reincarnation, i like to do things while i can control them, i can only control my life, my actions and how i respond to the world.

we are around the same age, so i guess we both don't have much experience in life. i took swimming, tennis, and piano, but i was ahh in them lol. apparently i was one of the top musicians in my grade (i got an award for that I think), but i played the flute. this sounds ironic, but i think im somewhat bad at everything too, lol. Maybe I just need wayyy more patience and time to learn and practice. 😅
Do you often daydream? sometimes i dream about being a versatile musician and just being an intelligent, multi-talented, and professional person overall. like i imagine i was a pro drummer (im inspired by drummers), but i know it wont happen (yet?) cause i am broke. 😅 daydreaming is a bad thing, but it is addicting. 😓
i dont believe in reincarnation because im catholic, but i kinda find comfort in knowing there are several "dumb" or "untalented" saints like St. Therese of Lisieux and most notably, St. Peter who was chosen by Jesus/God. also because God basically said that heaven is going to be like a million times better than Earth. In my religion, both are good, but Humility (Humble) > Intelligence.
What an interesting video thumbnail too. 👀

Reincarnation is something that I’ve thought about many times probably because of the things I’ve gone through in this lifetime. I think I would rather come back as an animal, like a domestic cat 🐈. I love mine very dearly and give him the best life I possibly can, so living a life like his would be nice.

Even though I get your line of thinking about wanting to get another chance at life and become really good at something, I don't think you need to be reborn in order to achieve something great.
It doesn't matter what age you are, if you really want to do something and put your heart and Soul into it you can achieve anything. Whether you want to learn an instrument or ten, learn how to draw or become a famous actor, you can do that. That's something that applies to anyone.
It's never too late to start.

Came here to say this. But especially at 24, you will still pick up on a skill quickly, relative to starting later in life. Of course, the best time to start may have been 20 years ago. But you didn't. So might as well start today.

Have you been able to practise your english with people in person? When you start interacting live with people, that will give your brain a different type of workout. Not necessarily people in this youtube channel, but just in real life - if you have the opportunity to practise with native english speakers, that will help a lot too.

    September 29 is pronounced twenty-ninth not twenty-nine
    4:04 「program」 has no 'l' in it
    4:41 「especially」 has no 'r'
8:07 「I was listening to those classical music... 」 I was listening to those classical songs...
9:01 「I was admired by them 」 I admired them
9:58 「I wish I could be some professional in one field like professional musician and professional artist are very, attracts me alot.
I wish I could be a professional in just one field like a musician or an artist. I'm really drawn to them.
12:06 「I'm half 〇ssed with everthing and I'm not proud of it.」 〇ssed isn't pronounced like 'acid'(酸) with 2 syllables. It just has 1 syllable like 'passed'
12:33 「I'm should hampunan人間 in everything. 」 What is 'hampunan人間? Maybe it's 半punan人間?
    20:34 「It's another week starting a game.」 It's another week starting again.
20:47 「and also this September is almost end...this September almost ends」 and also September is almost at an end.
I hope these will continue to help you with your English. You have worked very hard at improving your English and it's getting better and it shows in your videos that you're improving!
