Once upon the cross was the first album i heard from deicide, i loved the album then and it remained my favorite album of the band, on this one all the elements of the band came perfectly, just like in the album spiritual healing by death band, also there everything was perfect, two off the best and greatest death metal in history, thanks for sharing and keep metal alive.
I'll never forget the look on the faces of my parents when they read the lyrics to this album. One of my greatest memories right up there with them reading Tomb Of The Mutilated by Cannibal Corpse O.o

When this album was released, we had a hard time appreciating it because just before, Legion came out .once upon the cross is easier to access but less extreme is less technical. I will therefore have a real preference for Legion.
Their guitar tone took a noticeable leap from their first two albums on this one. Much more polished and not necessarily a bad thing. This album fucking rips.
I remember being 16, 17 in the 90s and arguing with my friend's god-fearing mum about bands like these lads and Cradle of Filth. She couldn't grasp the fact that they are talented musicians, and not just anyone can produce songs like this. Could not see past the satanism and the whole window dressing stuff, and just focus on the musical ability on offer here. Like it or not, the average person on the street couldn't write or play these great songs.
Can you really blame her? The lyrics are a complete mockery of everything she stood for. Of course she’d reject it, regardless of how talented the music is.
