I have been using this bass as my main workforce for the last four years and it has been amazing. As you said, you get a lot of bass for your bucks and two years ago I made an easy mo, introducing a tone control and moving the jack cavity and now it has everything I want in a bass. Also the finishes and the quality of the woods is outstanding. Keep up the good work!!
This model is definitely growing on me. I love the idea that Leo got here, using the bridge pup as a tone control for the P split coil. There's just something that bugs me with a traditional P bass but also a traditional PJ doesn't do it for me. This has a very pleasing and versatile character that's also unique.
I have one of these in black. Not sure if the fingerboard is rosewood or cherry. The neck is very good IMO. Hardwear excellent. I have made one mod. It now has two split vol/tone stacked pots. Versatile bass.
This is a really useful review. I'm taking a hard look at this bass, and it's good to know about the satin neck. I didn't see anything on the G&L site about it. Keep up the good work!
Really like the sound of this bass and you really brought out the best in this bass. I just bought the JB2 and I think this is on the list for my next bass.
Just picked one of these up I love it.. question though if that's ok, is the sound here going through an amp or direct? Is your split pickups set high or low? Yours sound's really good and quite mellow at 100% so wondering if it's the amp settings taming the brightness of this bass
Thanks, Peter! Unfortunately, I have only tried the USA LB-100, not the tribute version. There’s a demo about that one in my channel, too. I’ll try to get a Tribute one to test!
@@IvanBassist , I'm torn between JB, SB2 and Kiloton. If SB-2 had a tone knob it would probably win out. The G&L seem like better values than Fender or Stingray, though I'd certainly love either of those if I had em.
Tomas Lynch i REALLY liked the JB tribute i demo’d. I’m getting some USA G&Ls to demo this month. If you really like the SB-2 and can do some soldering, you can swap out the electronics and install a concentric volume/volume pot + a tone knob
Those are the stock strings, which are D’addario nickel. 45-105 if i remember correctly. I use either d’addario 45-100, Dunlop Nickel Super Bright 45-105 or DR Pure Blues 45-105
I’d pick this over the Kiloton. The neck P-pickup with a pick and a bit of overdrive = tone heaven. Personally I’m not that into Music Man style basses, but that doesn’t mean that the Kiloton is bad!
Ivan Your demos are the best! This is what We want to hear and know, thank You! How about the weight of this bass? I can't find info anywhere. By the way I am struggling between this and Ibanez sr650....really I can't decide...
well .. actually a light (it is important for my back) Pbass with a thin neck. No need a "ton of tones" like the sr650, but I have the feeling that Ibanez has more build quality..
The SB sounds and feels definitely closer to a P-Bass but with a J-style neck. Also the body contours are very ergonomic. The SR has a much thinner neck and is lighter, if i remember correctly.
Same here 😅😅 I know people who don’t like using the tone control & by having it in the circuit (no matter what type) the capacitor takes away a tiny bit of highs
The LB-100 feels better playability-wise, for me. But it costs three times as much as this skyline. This tribute was fairly light, if i remember correctly! A great deal for the money. My lakland skyline is very heavy unfortunately, but it plays and feels very comfortable
I don’t know the exact weight, but I remember it being fairly light and it had a great balance. Definitely lighter than the JB tribute that I also tested
I have the the SB2 Tribute in red. It is the heaviest of the several basses I own. Fret sprout is bad too. BUT, it sounds really good and I'm glad I have it. The bridge pup is weak on its own, but when blended in with the p pup adds growl to the bottom end. Great sound. .
Sorry to hear that! I don’t know where you are located, but the G&L distribution here in Germany checks and setups the basses again before shipping them to any dealer. I haven’t had anh fret sprout with the Tribute models so far.
Who are the three stooges who downvoted this video? This video was incredibly helpful and to the point. I guess those three wanted more grab ass and Bullsh*tting? I don't know, but they are fools, great video!

my favorite bass , just black full.
Killer tone! Thanks for watching :)
Hey Ivan, i just bought a USA made one of these. Absolutely love it.
Awesome! Congratulations 🎉
Thank you for this enjoyable and to-the-point review! The G&L Tribute basses are fantastic.
Thanks for watching! Yes G&L’s are superb instruments :) Have you checked out the latest Fullerton Deluxe demo I’ve done? :)
@@IvanBassist Not yet! Thanks for mentioning it. I'll check it out.
Great review.
If I get one myself, sure I will modified it with 2 stack volume/tone knobs. .068uf for neck pup and .022uf for bridge pup.
Great idea!
I have one of these in black. Not sure if the fingerboard is rosewood or cherry. The neck is very good IMO. Hardwear excellent. I have made one mod. It now has two split vol/tone stacked pots. Versatile bass.
That’s a great mod! Those MFD pickups are so punchy
Great review! Took us on a tour round the bass and then played real life bass. Just what we all need to hear thanks.
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words 😊
This is a really useful review. I'm taking a hard look at this bass, and it's good to know about the satin neck. I didn't see anything on the G&L site about it. Keep up the good work!
The neck feels awesome! Thanks for watching and for the kind words :)
The G&L Tribute basses are fantastic. Fantastic sound and well played. 🤘😅
Thanks for the really nice review!
Thanks for watching! :)
Another great review! I agree, the bridge pickup soloed sounds anemic but works well when used as a blend. P pickup sounds nice soloed.
Yeah, the MFD P-Pickup is killer!
Excellent review! I'm buying this.
Awesome! Let me know how you like it!
I was looking for a bass for a low budget, this video help me a lot.
Keep up the good work!
Glad to help! Thanks for watching!
nice new channel , im your watcher now, good luck, bro!

Dream bass

Cool! Congratulations on the new bass! The recordings were done using a DI signal here :)
I just got one today. How do like it after your short time with it?
Sounds great
It’s a great bass! Thanks for watching!!
i have one, indonessian, great bass... to ajust the trosroad , what kind of tool size you use
Vaccari Bass The bass came with the proper tools :) I’m assuming they’re regular metric gauges.

IvanBassist I ‘ve seen that: great bass! Thanks.
Does The LB100 tribute have the same pickups as the USA LB 100?
Peter Bout i think so! Same pickups and bridge
I love your videos. I'm considering a G&L soon myself. What is the song you play in this video? I'd love to be able to play it myself.
Thanks, Thomas! I write all the songs, riffs, grooves for the videos that I do :) which G&L are you considering at the moment?

I am looking for a 4 String Bass ( under $800 ) - Any Input? ( Fender, G&L, Sire, Ibanez, Music Man, Fujigen, Yamaha ) - even a Short Scale?
I think it sounds good, but I would prefer mandolin frets and 3 knobs: Volume, Blend, and Passive tone.
Yeah, i’d prefer a tone control, too! But those MFD pickups sound HUGE
Yvan , is there a middle detent on the knobs to know when you are at 50%?
Not that I remember. It’s a passive bass
@@IvanBassist ok so you don't know for sure when you dial the volume of one pickup at 50% ?
mika rage not really. You could put a marking on the volume knob as a guide
How does this compare with the Kiloton? I play mostly rock, with a pick. 🤔
I’d pick this over the Kiloton. The neck P-pickup with a pick and a bit of overdrive = tone heaven. Personally I’m not that into Music Man style basses, but that doesn’t mean that the Kiloton is bad!

That depends. They are very different basses soundwise. What kind of music do you want to play and which are some of your idols?
A pj with no tone control, just as I want! Don't like too many knobs
It’s a killer bass! Lots of punch
after 30 years, this recently became my No 1 rig. it's all in the fingers and application of the volume pots.
