I like to think that the reason Remus took the job of Defense Against The Dark Arts Teacher in general was so he could protect Harry and finally confront the man he believed to have stolen three of best friends from him. Additionally, the reason I believe Dumbledore didn't leave Harry with Remus is because A.) Remus didn't have a lot of money, B.) His lycanthropy would make it extremely risky to raise a child in that environment, and to top it off C.) Remus most likely refused the offer because of a lack of self-confidence on his part, even though we all know through his interactions with his students that he's just as warm and supportive as you can get. Man, Remus had a tough life.
The reason Harry HAD to live with his Aunt is because she has Lillys blood and it was his mothers blood that protected him. So long as he considered the place where his mothers blood lived on his home he would be protected from voldemort and the death eaters.that is also why he had to return for at least a couple weeks each year..once he turned 17 this protection wore off which is why he had to flee the dursleys house. Under any other circumstance Im sure he would have been adopted into another wizarding family or a wizarding orphanage..many people would have glady taken in the boy who lived.
I don't think Dumbledore offered to leave Harry with Remus. Sirius wanted to take him right in Godric's Hollow and Hagrid took him away on Dumbledore's orders. But blood protection aside, I believe the reasons you listed are why Remus never fought him for it or tried to get in contact with Harry before 1993.
I like the head canon that the marauders had a special compartment that they took every year to Hogwarts where they had all carved in there initials somewhere, and Remus couldn't bare the thought of not traveling to Hogwarts and not sitting in that compartment.
My personal theory is that while all of the prementioned things in the video might have been supporting reasons, I think he would have chosen to ride the train anyways due to the fond memories of his friends and the train likely was involved in a number of them. A familiar place with good memories to help him transition to a major change in his life in which he'd be on familiar ground, but in a fairly unfamiliar role.
I used to thing of the same things. I like the idea that Remus just want to go on the train because he could feels how it was when the marauders where still there. I like to think that the marauders have their special compartment where Sirius and James used to kick out everyone who made the wrong decision to enter and Remus could just feel safe when he enter in the train years later

If it weren't to his ties with his old school friends as well as Dumbledore, then I think (and it saddens me to type this) he would have died as other werewolves in his situation would. It really does open a new way of thinking about him, and many things make more sense when you consider the fact that he is in a really bad situation.
Maybe he took the train because the last time he took the train it was with James, Sirius and Peter when they went to Hogwarts together. But I have to agree with the idea that he just finished a transformation. I mean, he was covered by a black cloak and sleeping, possibly to regain some energy, but he did have enough energy to cast a Patronus, so that's something, as well.

He might have gotten on the train before everyone else and slept so nobody sat with him and other compartments were empty. People would obviously go for the empty compartments rather than full so he might've gotten alot of sleep

While it would be really cool, I think it's much more likely that this is a lucky coincidence There are several occasions in the books where weekdays have been gotten wrong and a few other plotholes related to calendars.

Beauxbatons have the carriage which can house them all and Durmstrang have their boat which also houses them all. Where would the Hogwarts students sleep if they attended the Tri-Wizards tournament as we know it's not always held in Hogwarts. Just really wanted to know. it's like focusing on where you want to go then spinning on the spot and going where you want to go but if you don't have the complete focus you may lose a limb which is called splinching its a form of teleportation there's more detail in the book

And if they were available, why didn't the residents of these homes take advantage of them? Would you need to have some sort of "building" or "contractor" talent to use them?

Sooo...living in a small dereloct cottage without a functional fireplace... right after a transformationcycle... but yet he manages to get to kings cross station, assuming the cottage isnt placed in hyde park (which still would be awesome, for multiple reasons) then it would have been quite a trek to get there in his condition.
If you live in other areas of the UK aside from London, do you have travel all the way to Kings Cross just to get the train? Is there other stops along the way like in Manchester and Glasgow which pick up wizards and witches? How would they travel to London? Would they use muggle transport?
He's probably in there to meet his friend's son personally. Or he was there to guard from Sirius, and to protect the STUDENTS from a dementor attack, meaning there were probably a few teachers on the train. Dementors could have gotten anywhere on the train, and do you think one teacher is going to easily overpower another when they are kind of weak and that other one isn't.
I always thought he was there to protect Harry, which he ultimately did when the Dementor attacked. He was still so loyal to James and Lily, even after their deaths. But it did bother me a bit that he just happened to be asleep in the same compartment the trio went into. Was it just luck? Maybe it was planned and he took a shot of some Felix before getting on the train. We know Snape was making him a potion for his transformations, Dumbledore could have easily gotten him to whip up some. We also know that The Half-Blood Prince was a master at making it.
I honestly think he had good memories he just want to relieve in the Hogwarts Express. He shut himself from the world after James and Sirius had their misfortunes. He really felt like he had no one anymore, and that he had nothing. all he had left was a depressing curse he can't escape. I think he took the train to Hogwarts because it reminded him of his happy times. those times he rode there with James and Sirius. those times when all was well. those times when going to school means he'll see his best friends again, and have the time of their lives, momentarily forgetting about his condition. OR...he went to take the train because he can't wait any longer to see even a glimpse of Harry. he can't wait for the feast at the great hall or any DADA class to meet him. he rode the train so from that early on, he could see him again
I think is is because It was a full moon this is seen at the transition from the train scene to the inside of hog warts where the students are singing so possibly Remus was trying to shade himself from the moon with his coat and the train so he doesn't turn into a werewolf, to back that up after he saved harry from the domentor he said he was going to speak to the train driver however I think he saw the moon and alternatively went out to prevent him turning or to not kill anyone when he turns.
The last explanation makes the most sense. He was there to keep an eye on Harry and look out for Sirius Black. I don't believe that an absence of money would have prevented him from using the floo network. The floo network wasn't being that heavily regulated that early in the series. Moreover, he could have used any number of wizards fireplaces, including those in the Leaky Cauldron. As for port keys, there was no reason why Lupin couldn't have created one, and if he couldn't, Dumbledore could have easily arranged for one. I don't think apparition would have been an option due to the distance from London to Northern Scotland. I don't recall seeing anything about the maximum distance for apparition, but I do know that Voldemort couldn't apparate at one point and had to fly to Malfoy Manor.
Maybe thats why he was sleeping on the Hogwarts express when Harry first met him. Because he was so tired because the night before he had his transformation.
Maybe it was for nostalgia also? Maybe he missed his hogwarts days and his friends so much that he wanted to experience it again. He was probably really depressed heading back to the place where he had been really happy with the marauders, but was remembering that 2 (he thought) were dead and 1 was working with Voldemort. Maybe he just wanted to remember the good old times? It’s still sad though :(
I've always believed that Dumbledore knew that dementors would be searching the train, so he asked Lupin to go on the train to protect the students from them. I do not believe that he would have asked him to go in case of an attack from Sirius, as Dumbledore wouldn't be able to rely on Harry going into the same compartment as him.
I reckon it was part of dumblebor plan to shape Harrys spirit to experience the dimentor kiss so he can experience pain.. and not having to much stimulation from his popularity.. so he would have something real to grieve about
I always thought Lupen was there to watch over the train. Not Harry specifically, but because the story started with a 'dangerous' break out of Azkaban. I always assumed there was one teacher per part of the bus too
The train makes the most sense since he is weak after his transformation and needs sleep, which he was doing when Harry entered the car. Dumbledore may have had Remus ride the train to help with the dementors as well. Harry would have been a prime target for them being happy to return to Hogwarts again with all his friends. The young wizards would not have had the skill levels it takes or the knowledge of the Protonus Spell to dispel the dementors.

There's also a statement and y personal theory that the reason he traveled by train was because before he grew up he and his best mates (The Marauders) traveled by train every start of the year and to add to that, I personally believe that the cabin he was in was the cabin they were always in when they took the train, I know it's a stretch but it's still a possibility.

I believe he did it because it was the 1st time he would be at Hogwarts since when he was at school. It must have brought back many memories with the Maurauders and he just wanted to think about everything before he got there
Sooo...living in a small dereloct cottage without a functional fireplace... right after a transformationcycle... but yet he manages to get to kings cross station, assuming the cottage isnt placed in hyde park (which still would be awesome, for multiple reasons) then it would have been quite a trek to get there in his condition.

If you live in other areas of the UK aside from London, do you have travel all the way to Kings Cross just to get the train? Is there other stops along the way like in Manchester and Glasgow which pick up wizards and witches? How would they travel to London? Would they use muggle transport?

He's probably in there to meet his friend's son personally. Or he was there to guard from Sirius, and to protect the STUDENTS from a dementor attack, meaning there were probably a few teachers on the train. Dementors could have gotten anywhere on the train, and do you think one teacher is going to easily overpower another when they are kind of weak and that other one isn't.
Slughorn also took the Hogwarts express to arrive at the school. It's in the Half Blood Price book

I always thought he was there to protect Harry, which he ultimately did when the Dementor attacked. He was still so loyal to James and Lily, even after their deaths. But it did bother me a bit that he just happened to be asleep in the same compartment the trio went into. Was it just luck? Maybe it was planned and he took a shot of some Felix before getting on the train. We know Snape was making him a potion for his transformations, Dumbledore could have easily gotten him to whip up some. We also know that The Half-Blood Prince was a master at making it.
I honestly think he had good memories he just want to relieve in the Hogwarts Express. He shut himself from the world after James and Sirius had their misfortunes. He really felt like he had no one anymore, and that he had nothing. all he had left was a depressing curse he can't escape.
I think he took the train to Hogwarts because it reminded him of his happy times. those times he rode there with James and Sirius. those times when all was well. those times when going to school means he'll see his best friends again, and have the time of their lives, momentarily forgetting about his condition.
OR...he went to take the train because he can't wait any longer to see even a glimpse of Harry. he can't wait for the feast at the great hall or any DADA class to meet him. he rode the train so from that early on, he could see him again
I think is is because It was a full moon this is seen at the transition from the train scene to the inside of hog warts where the students are singing so possibly Remus was trying to shade himself from the moon with his coat and the train so he doesn't turn into a werewolf, to back that up after he saved harry from the domentor he said he was going to speak to the train driver however I think he saw the moon and alternatively went out to prevent him turning or to not kill anyone when he turns.
The last explanation makes the most sense. He was there to keep an eye on Harry and look out for Sirius Black. I don't believe that an absence of money would have prevented him from using the floo network. The floo network wasn't being that heavily regulated that early in the series. Moreover, he could have used any number of wizards fireplaces, including those in the Leaky Cauldron. As for port keys, there was no reason why Lupin couldn't have created one, and if he couldn't, Dumbledore could have easily arranged for one.
I don't think apparition would have been an option due to the distance from London to Northern Scotland. I don't recall seeing anything about the maximum distance for apparition, but I do know that Voldemort couldn't apparate at one point and had to fly to Malfoy Manor.

Maybe it was for nostalgia also? Maybe he missed his hogwarts days and his friends so much that he wanted to experience it again. He was probably really depressed heading back to the place where he had been really happy with the marauders, but was remembering that 2 (he thought) were dead and 1 was working with Voldemort. Maybe he just wanted to remember the good old times? It’s still sad though :(
I've always believed that Dumbledore knew that dementors would be searching the train, so he asked Lupin to go on the train to protect the students from them. I do not believe that he would have asked him to go in case of an attack from Sirius, as Dumbledore wouldn't be able to rely on Harry going into the same compartment as him.

I reckon it was part of dumblebor plan to shape Harrys spirit to experience the dimentor kiss so he can experience pain.. and not having to much stimulation from his popularity.. so he would have something real to grieve about
I always thought Lupen was there to watch over the train. Not Harry specifically, but because the story started with a 'dangerous' break out of Azkaban. I always assumed there was one teacher per part of the bus too
I think he was there to be near Harry. He would have known he was on there and would have wanted to be close by in case he needed help.
Honestly I think Barty Crouch Jr. was Harry’s best defense against the dark arts teacher.

The train makes the most sense since he is weak after his transformation and needs sleep, which he was doing when Harry entered the car. Dumbledore may have had Remus ride the train to help with the dementors as well. Harry would have been a prime target for them being happy to return to Hogwarts again with all his friends. The young wizards would not have had the skill levels it takes or the knowledge of the Protonus Spell to dispel the dementors.
