The voice effect seems like a great addition. I think I had never noticed the gimmick in Monika/Shaggy section before. I see why you kept the background without splitting, while still having the essence of the gimmick.
Glad you like it. I've actually been experimenting quite a lot with the vocals recently, might even start doing the same for the instrumentals. I'm hoping to improve them further since it's not something I've been focusing enough on. And it's nice that you noticed the gimmick. I think I want to start adding in more again, although some songs are pretty hard as it is already so it's probably not going to work for all of them.
Maybe you could add the gimmicks that affect gameplay (covering the screen, reverse scroll) in easier sections or in the opponent's turn? That would depend on which character you decide to use for a specific part, so I guess it doesn't work every time.
