RTI $200 Carcano M91 (B-Grade) WORTH THE RISK? Unboxing Royal Tiger Imports Italian 1891 Long Rifle

  • Can't believe I'm giving RTI another shot on their M91 Carcano Long Rifles after my first experience. A couple years ago I ordered a Fucile Modello 91 from Royal Tiger Imports and I was super disappointed in the condition of the bore. They recently had a discount on these rifles in "B-Grade" condition so I decided to roll the milsurp dice once more in hopes of a shooter. I have a decent little Italian Military Carcano collection but not having a good shooting 1891 has been bothering me. Hopefully we'll have better luck with this one!!

    Here's what I hate about RTI. Their grading system is based on what they have left. So your B grade could have been an F grade 2 months ago when everything came in. So when the A grades sell out, the B grades become A, and so on. That's why I try my best to pay attention to when they release a new batch and buy asap instead of waiting.

      @@boltforward3611 If you are on a PC, you can open up a tab at RTI on the page where they are selling their "M38 Carcano Short Rifle, Cal. 7.35x51 w/ 1 Free Clip" then take your mouse and hover over the tab at the top of your browser and a bubble pops up that says "M38 Carcano Short Rifle C Grade". That leads me to believe they just changed the description from "C Grade" to something else. I could be wrong but that's not the kind of mistake their webpage guy should be making.

He had stacks of Mosin M44s, Mosin M1891/30s, Kar98k, M16A1 style AR15s and SKS’ that he got over the years from hot deals. Now I can’t even afford a Kar98k as the average one is $700ish. Way back in the day, you could buy these things mail order , shipped to your house, they had such little value that if you walked into a gun shop with one ,intent on selling, the owner would buy it from you and remove the bolt, and hand the rest back to you as the bolt was the only thing of value.

    I bought a K98 mauser and a M38 Carcano short rifle from RTI back when they first started selling the Ethiopian firearms and the K98 had a sewer pipe bore and a welded shut floorplate. The Carcano had a decent bore but the lug under the barrel that the front magazine screw threads into was completely stripped out. They have a lot of firearms I would like to have but I wouldn't buy from them again.

    Having lived through the second glory days of surplus in the late 80's and 90's I always enjoy seeing new lots of surplus found. This horde from Ethiopia was pretty interesting with all type of firearms from various nations that had not been on the market in years. I gambled with the M1 carbines when they first hit and while not mad about the purchase , I wasn't exactly thrilled with it either. The descriptions were a bit overestimated in my opinion , but I should have known considering the source. That seems to be the high side of opinion on RTI's conditions and pricing with many people getting what I would consider "junk". Uley for years ahs been able to find some cool stuff , but again his stuff was never highly regarded when it came to conditions described.

    Have never bought from RTI, so I can’t speak on them. In the late 90’s I worked at a German gun shop, and were were one of the top importer on military surplus. Don’t think I have ever seen an Italian rifle that had a good bore. You could get mint Swiss rifles, and Swedish arms. I mainly shop Simpson, they are not cheap, yet have never been disappointed. From time to time can find something the LGS has on commission that is interesting.

    I rolled the dice and ordered 2 x 1891 Carcano Carbines from them, $149 each, allegedly good to very good condition with an extra magazine each, getting them for my boys for their first shot at restoring an antique weapon, one with wood and not just metal and plastic

    I picked up a swiss rifle without a top handguard. I am going to 3d print it. It is a simple enough shape and it could be printed with "wood fibre" filament so it would accept some sort of stain. Or carbon reinforced fibre for better properties.

    Sir, if you already have a handguard on the other Carcano rifle you purchased, I don't think it would be impossible to have one made by any competent wood worker. You have a pattern to work off.
    Or use the other rifle as a "doner" for the new one with the better bore.

  • @danm7298

    Not a bad rifle. Id prolly just use some superglue on the cracks that arent too bad. It makes them harder to notice too. Especially if u put some sawdust in the glue

    Definitely seems to be hit or miss with RTI. I see a lot of good and equally as much bad posts about what people receive, kind of a crap shoot.
    I've only purchased from them once but I was happy with what I got. Ordered a Carcano carbine about a year ago, labeled as Very good condition for $135, I didn't know what to expect but ended up with a 1941 rifle that had no missing parts, no cracks and a surprisingly decent bore, even had a name carved into the stock which was kinda cool. Shoots great, just wish ammo wasn't a pain to find or overly expensive sometimes.

  • @Tir3dWarLock
    @Tir3dWarLock 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A lot of people I think also need to realize that these rifles have been through hell in two world wars, and ethopia, and should not expect a rifle in perfect condition. And the price does reflect that on a lot of them.
    You wont find a carcano for $200 at any gun show, i can promise that.

  • @Dominic1962

    I kick myself for not picking up a m91 long rifle for 300 that was complete but kind rough looking. Probably would have cleaned up decent but when I went back to the shop it was gone. Only missing the rod, had the handguard. Was a Terni or Roma, WWI date. Oh well. I have a pretty decent m41 that’s a great shooter I got from Springfield Sporters back in the day for 60. It was one of the nastiest looking rifles I ever got, but it was just dirty and full of old hardened cosmoline but after I got it all cleaned up the bluing wasn’t bad at all and the bore even had a bit of shine to it. FAT 41 with an older numbered straight bolt from a m91. Even got a deer with it.

  • @tomc6255
    @tomc6255 ปีที่แล้ว

    My long rifle has a crack on the upper handguards and the rifling in the bore is there. The problem is finding one replacement screw for encap screw or a screwdriver thick enough to plug in the gap. Underneath the barrel, there were clearly bugs and a lot of shit.
