Who in their right mind enjoyed going to primary school so much they decided to live in one? You're surrounded by nothing but block walls, linoleum floors and drop ceilings... with tiles that are probably original to the building. The power and comm outlets are run surface in painted-over wiremold. How can a person actually enjoy that aesthetic?
The other thing is you have all this extra, just _...stuff_ that is completely unneeded for a single family home... aside from the overwhelming number of extra rooms, you're looking at a building with 3 phase power and sub-panels galore, boiler heating, fire suppression, etc.

the lighting type + shadow angles + pale color paint + shine +wrong camera mood and light exposure give this effect .. the same scene could look much better during the day or with the right settings .. and it would be 10x better if they change this awful paint .

That school that they turned into a house would actually be pretty good for turning it into an orphanage. Convert some of the classrooms into bedrooms and then keep some of the classrooms as classrooms that the kids would take classes in. It would be like their school/home. There would be a gymnasium for playing basketball/Volleyball/Dodgeball etc etc, there is likely an outdoor playground for when the weather is good, a cafeteria where they could be served breakfast/lunch/dinner. They could have a weight room and a library, a nurses station and offices for the staff. Basically, it would be an all-in-one type of building to accommodate orphans while they wait to be adopted.

That elementary school turned into a home looks so unsettling and I can’t explain why
to me it just feels cold, like everywhere.

It seems like a good idea until you remember the heating bill. Regardless of heating method even medium sized school buildings can easily suck many thousands of dollars worth of heating in the winter.
That's usually the catch-22 with these old schools. Dirt cheap to buy second-hand but expensive to maintain. That's why municipalities often want to get rid of them asap when they are not needed anymore.
