This is funny because of how true it is, I'm living in a 2 person apartment with a friend from high school working 10 hour night shifts on weekends at a perishable food distribution center. I've saved 50k in a little over 2 years now and am enjoying playing games, reading books, and visiting family on my days off. I think what's particularly troubling about modern dating is that we've all grown so accustomed to abundance that generally, people ask for more without realizing that what is asked for is not realistically obtainable. Because of the way material goods are worshipped in the media now, this resulted in materialism manifesting itself in mainstream dating culture. Hopefully this is all just a very vocal minority, because I'd feel awful if this is the direction dating is headed for people. I've found someone that makes me incredibly happy, and we both have our flaws. Everyone does; yet what each of us have looked for in another partner, we found in each other. In highschool nobody wanted me because I was one of the shorter guys and slightly chubby (not obese but a little thick). I went through a growth spurt at 18 and now I'm 6'1 and, at 29, in the best physical shape of my life and I have a good stable job. I'm glad you brought this up. When I was engaged to my husband, I bought the house with my own money. We talked about it, and it was a point of pride for me and more practical. I had the better credit score (so a lower interest rate) and made less money (so when we married, if one of us was ever unemployed we knew we could afford the mortgage, which was super helpful when the pandemic-recession hit). Men don't need to provide everything nowadays. Women have two hands, two feet, and can get a job. This is funny because of how true it is, I'm living in a 2 person apartment with a friend from high school working 10 hour night shifts on weekends at a perishable food distribution center. I've saved 50k in a little over 2 years now and am enjoying playing games, reading books, and visiting family on my days off. Though I do eat better than ramen, I'm slowly learning more recipes and eating better as time passes. I hear people complaining about their life sometimes and I just think that the problem isn't their life, it's them. I think what's particularly troubling about modern dating is that we've all grown so accustomed to abundance that generally, people ask for more without realizing that what is asked for is not realistically obtainable. Because of the way material goods are worshipped in the media now, this resulted in materialism manifesting itself in mainstream dating culture. Hopefully this is all just a very vocal minority, because I'd feel awful if this is the direction dating is headed for people. I've found someone that makes me incredibly happy, and we both have our flaws. Everyone does; yet what each of us have looked for in another partner, we found in each other. I went through a growth spurt at 18 and now I'm 6'1 and, at 29, in the best physical shape of my life and I have a good stable job. But now that I've watched so many videos on channels like this I'm no longer looking for a woman to commit to, unless I find one that's truly worth it. One who really cares about me and helps me grow as a person (and I would happily do the same in return, of course). But those women are rare in today's society.

I'm glad you brought this up. When I was engaged to my husband, I bought the house with my own money. We talked about it, and it was a point of pride for me and more practical. I had the better credit score (so a lower interest rate) and made less money (so when we married, if one of us was ever unemployed we knew we could afford the mortgage, which was super helpful when the pandemic-recession hit). Men don't need to provide everything nowadays. Women have two hands, two feet, and can get a job. If marriage/relationships are partnerships, people need to start treating each other with respect instead of like piggy banks!
