It's actually foreign men who call us, South African, women cheap. I'll just have to be honest and say I have never come across any South African man call women by this word or use that sort of language, in spite of the behaviour of a lady. Which is why I also don't like the "trash" label because it's polarizing and this then becomes unfair to those who are noble in society. Foreign men normally call SA women cheap because of many reasons, and that would take forever for me to explain because their perceptions are informed by different ideas rooted in misogyny. You'd surprised how many foreign men are more misogynistic and abusive than South African men, but many do not know that yet.
South African men may complain about women generally, or a specific woman, but they rarely use such a word to describe that person. I'd be lying if I said they call us that. I don't think they even make 1%. It's normally Nigerians who hold those views, unfortunately. These foreign men (and sometimes also women) also tend to call South African men lazy.
As for the #MenAreTrash...well it's a commonplace slander among many countries, but SA women weaponize this against SA men more especially when they compare them with other African men whom they tend to pedestalize. It's tiring at best. GBV, Femicide, Rape, etc is something that happens almost everywhere and it's not unique to SA so I don't know why SA guys are made to look like these extreme monsters out of everyone else. There is women abuse even in Nigeria - the same country whom people tend to believe its men are the gift to humanity. They recently killed a Christian female student at a college for "blasphemy". So yikes! Even so, that shouldn't overshadow the good Nigerian men because I believe there are. Hence I wish for SA men to be given the same grace of not being painted with the same brush and perhaps that would make things better.
Imagine if a white person created a hashtag and said #BlackPeopleAreGangsters, wouldn't this upset us? Because we would know that it's generalizing and divisive. Same goes for when women call men trash, which makes the innocent males get caught in the crossfire.
    Just saying 🤷🏽‍♀️

SA women have followed the footsteps of FBA women, they did this 30 years ago and I think they living the consequences. This constant disrespect and degrading of SA men will yield negative results as it already started. SA men in top positions are starting to look outside. As much as we are not perfect as South African men we never disrespect our women especially using foreign women. it will be a lie to say we haven't built a nation that is better for women compared to the rest of the continent. I hope they remember this the day SA men start to retaliate, degrade them and pander to women of other countries. Today black American men at the top hardly desire to marry a black American woman, the same is happening this side

Thank you and you are right I have seen it first hand. People call me "the south african man wife" for no reason because they don't call each other based on their husband I have received hate for being married to a south african. Africa will concur one day we just need to learn to our power as individuals and then use it together. We are unique for a reason. Thanks bro and welcome to the family.

I'm that thick skinned South African who doesn't get emotional easily. I never care when a person takes nonsense things because I value myself. While staying in Cape Town and Durban I've been very much privileged that I spend a lot of time with brothers from different countries of Africa, my favorite country of DRC, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and Gabon.
