    • @Travelnortherners
      @Travelnortherners 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes once owned by Anglo American to then merge with Lafarge. Commissioners said the company was too big to merge so they each had to sell assets off. They planned to bring the assets together which were surplus and sell them as one, which they did and thats what formed ‘Hope Construction’ which was later to be bought out by ‘Breedon aggregates’. They unfortunately ended up being one of Tarmacs major competitors. I was manager in the North east with multiple Quarries and left in 2019, unfortunately they have had a big run of redundancies recently and a good few of my ex colleagues have now left. CRH later bought lafargetarmac and kept the tarmac name and took the lafarge blue circle Logo as seen on their PPE.

    Isn’t this how good companies should be towards the public, especially those that show interest towards the company. The 2 managers are diamond geezers who not only showed you around but took their time to explain all the things that they do and how they do it. To take time going through the health and safety with you for your safety shows a mark of a caring company. If all companies took their time to, not necessarily take you around the site, explain the company as to what it does then the difference is there for all to see.I congratulate them for taking their time to show us, the public, on how they operate. I also congratulate your good self on this vid PJ. So very very informative.

    Great video PJ, bought back many happy memories when I showed your video to my dad who used to visit here when he was a SAACKE boiler service engineer. Many of times he would return home and I remember him saying about having been to Tarmac Topblock when I was kid... First words he said how lovely he remembered the people were there, something he truly misses as he had to early retire after having a heart attack which he very luckily survived but it ended his 27yrs at SAACKE on the tools.

    I worked for Tarmac construction building a raod tunnel under the Suez Canal, the tunnel lining was precast cast concrete segments each weighing 7 tons. These were cast on site. We lived in an army style camp, beer was delivered by tipper truck and cost 20P a bottle.
    Most construction companies help out local groups, maybe some concrete or other materials. A JCB for a day or so, the loan of a bus, take away some rubbish. On a road project we involved a school with design plans, surveying the school yard, site visits and the opening of the new road party.

    I worked on a tarmac plant in the 90s you used to push the cake through the cutting wires by a hand held frame on the back, most work done by about six men plus the traverser was operated by one person riding on it, all bloody hard work

    Cracking stuff all round. This is the way for companies to treat people like PJ; put simply, in a positive manner
    Shows all the miserable bastards up beyond belief in the companies where arrogance and aggression etc was shown
