      zeddisntdead i likes that you were forced, you didn’t choose the raider boss position it was forced upon you same as how many raiders in the commonwealth were kidnapped and forced to join. You learn more of there perspective because in this dlc your not being evil by clearing the park to help raiders just doing what you must to survive.

      Simply put Bethesda is a terrible dm
      Bethesda: what you don’t want to do this quest the evil way? Then kill all of them and get no quests.
      Me: or or start a rebellion quest with the slaves that involves you sneaking or killing your way in a building to deactivate them. Maybe before that you do a quest to stockpile the rebellion with weapons, and when the collars are deactivated you do a quest a night to charge one of or all the gangs.

      I really appreciate the deep psychology at the bottom of all of the stories in Bethesda games and how our decisions and progress in them is a reflection of us and who we are and what we want, where we want to go, etc. if we are given the options. I appreciate the options to do bad things but it feels more rewarding by preserving life that wants good for other life in general.

      Well the Brotherhood deal with Ghouls, Super Mutants or Synths. Which is why you were able to call them in to wipe out the synth colony in Far Harbor. They don't typically give 2 shits about raiders enough to go out of their way to plan an invasion. The Minutemen on the other hand....

      John michael While these weapons are creative I wouldn't call them advanced or even more practical than what the brotherhood already has. I would however call the life extending technology a technological marvel. However something like that is useless to the brotherhood seeing as eternal life means you're just a head. Even if it did work properly, you would be categorized as an abomination that must be eliminated much like a synth. Synths are what you would consider technologically advanced, but the brotherhood would rather destroy them than use them.

    The best way to do this DLC, morally, and gameplay-wise, is this:
    1. Do not become General of the Minutemen (at least not until finishing all these steps)
    2. Complete the entire Nuka-World DLC on the side of the raiders, with Porter Gage as a companion to acquire his companion perk
    3. Complete Shank's Settlement takeover quests until the quest Power Play starts
    4. Finish Power Play with the two Raider gangs you want the perks from, they will follow you to the Power Plant during this quest
    5. As soon as the two perks are awarded, kill the Raider Gang leaders while they are still on the roof of the Power Plant with you, this will allow you to complete the Open Season quest without having to kill your way through hundreds of Raiders in Nuka-Town USA
    6. Go back to the Commonwealth and reclaim the settlements you gave to the Raiders by killing them
    7. You are now free to become General of the Minutemen without Preston hating you, allowing you to keep him as a follower AND gain his affinity perk
    8. Congratulations! You now have all perk benefits of an evil playthrough, but still keep Preston Garvey as a companion (he won't even comment on it if you complete Open Season before meeting him.)

      @connorcloke8121 6 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      JakeSpacePirate E Preston only hates you if he knows you whilst you are Overboss with at least one owned main game raider settlement (Shank's Commonwealth missions) as long as none are marked as owned in the Commonwealth, Preston will still tolerate any action committed in Nuka-World. Seems his precious settlements are his last straw

    • @connorcloke8121
      @connorcloke8121 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      It's impossible to become General without securing Tenpines Bluff specifically, as long as you finish Open Season BEFORE securing Tenpines Bluff, you'll be okay. If you secure Tenpines Bluff before Open Season with any raider settlement in the Commonwealth marked as owned, Preston will know about you and your raiders and will give you the Open Season quest himself before asking you to be the General, but I'm not sure if he will still like you doing it this way, It probably should work because he doesn't become a companion until you ARE General, he can't hate, dislike, like or Love any actions if he doesn't have companion status

    I actually like that you don't get the perks for the good ending, I think it makes it more of an "ethical" dilemma. It's easy to do good if there is no cost to it. The idea is to make you think like a raider, hey if I do bad things I get all these benefits. Being good when there really is nothing in it for you seems more realistic somehow. Gage even talks about his becoming a raider because they were the ones that got things & the benefits of being a raider, as well as having everyone scared of you. He mocked the people that chose to take the harder but "good" path, like his parents & work for what they had. Just my take on it though, like a good book good games are open to interpretation. .

    I always looked for the best endings too. I just don't get any gratification from being a bad guy. Some people do, because it's just a game after all and they want to explore that. That's fine, but not for me. When I play a role in a game I take my personality with me. Sounds silly doesn't it. What I find interesting is that the narrative changes based on the moral choices you make in the game. It's not just a shooter, but a story. Bioshock was like that too, and fallout forced the sole survivor to make some very hard decisions. As in life, not everyone is going to be a winner. And in the end you just have to choose what kind of world you want this to be.

      It depends. You still can finish all of the quest until you reach the point where you're told to invade Commonwealth and still be considered "good" (Even Preston won't mind at all if he tags along when you're doing the quests). If you do that, you're only missing out on Raider Outpost system, which is pretty much a settlement system for Raiders that are frustrating anyway (Raiders hate being told to farm), and of course, the perks.

    • @HendyVelarius
      @HendyVelarius 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Another way to consider is actually finishing all of the raider quests, get the perks, and then go back to being the good guy. You will still lose Preston Garvey as companion (which I don't mind at all), and you can strike the raider outposts and reclaim them as your settlement.
      If you go down this route, make sure to not have any turrets in the raider outpost. It causes bug and won't let you reclaim the settlement.

    • @screenwolf
      @screenwolf 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Side note with the turrets. Any time you are taking over your own settlements it's sensible to store the turrets. They become available to you again as soon as you re-take it (either for settlers or raiders). So make the take over easier and give yourself instant turrets once it's over.

    • @direodogaron886
      @direodogaron886 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never had an issue with the turrets you just do enough damage to destroy them. They shut down but remain in place. once you have done that with all of them you go to the workshop and reacquire the settlement. Then you can repair the turrets and use them as defense again.

  • @SwankyKitteh82

    I actually just finished Nuka World... I tell you, that doctor had no idea what she was getting you into telling you to off the raider gang heads (or perhaps she did and was downplaying the situation to help convince you). She tells you to simply off the gang leaders and the rest would fall in line. This is NOT however, the case. No matter what you do you end up having to kill every, single, raider in the entire park.
    Honestly, while what they did to the traders made my eye twitch, I'd have been okay with letting them have the park. The problem lies in the raider mentality itself. I was a bit irritated that you couldn't do more to sway Shank and Gage to simply settle in and leave the Commonwealth be. What they have there in the park is a veritable fortress kingdom (with built in electricity even), and is far better than anything they'll find elsewhere. You even have the ability to tell them this, but you however don't have the ability to convince them or in any way really press the issue. Raiders are, alas, much like the song "One Last Score" by Red-Eye paints them to be. They're over-ambitious, callous and uncaring for others, and frankly never satisfied.
    I think Colter (your predecessor) realized this too. It's why instead of fulfilling his "promised obligations" to Gage he instead settled in and began building more venues for entertaining (placating) his fellows. And we see how well that went for him.

    After reading some of the comments here, I felt that I need to give my two seconds here:
    I was really disappointed with the DLC. In fact, now I know how people who wanted to play as evil on the vanilla game felt. It never bored me before because I always play as a good character and make no sense play as an evil character. Therefore, to me, join the raiders to destroy all you have built during the regular game is something unacceptable...
    The thing is: Although I love the game, history wise it is quite weak. Sometime it forces you to make moral choices that you could avoid with some really simple solution... But this is another discussion...
    Nuka World SHOULD have a 'good path' and I can thing on lots of ways that it could have been done:
    1 - You could have options to free the slavers from the collars and make them revolt;
    2 - You could be able to bring the Minuteman to retake and free the park.
    3 - We could also still have the 'Open Season' quest to kill the leaders, but this should not necessarily make everything try to kill you.
    4 - Some of the NPC should be able to convince to switch sides on conversations, even more Gage
    So much more ideas and options could be have done with it...
    BUT if making The Sole Survivor became evil IS part of the canon (We never know, maybe Bethesda wants to make him a villain on FO5?) it should have been done with a decent backstory;
    Like, have some settlement to be attacked by, I don't know, Gunners? and make them kill someone important... Maybe Piper or Preston and then, start a realization that the Minutemen aren't strong enough to keep the commonwealth together. That being a Overlord and control raiders would make him/her stronger to control and defend the commonwealth and make raiders attack other regions for resources and so on.
    But no... the game simply throw you the options and you should accept it without any motive. Without any Epiphany.
    The closest ever the game get to give us any line to justify the change is when Gage says: "You know, I've heard about you. In charge of the Minutemen, ain't ya? No idea why you'd waste your time with those has-beens."
    There is also this: controlling raiders is not an easy path. The game system to manage the rider settlement proves that; They live by praying on the working settlements and they never have enough food to all...
    Everybody seems to see the Minuteman as an weak faction. But to tell the truth, they felt at first place just when they started to fight between each other after loosing the Castle. And eventually, the last ones were betrayed by Clint.
    But with the right direction, the militia can become a force to be respected. They need training and gear: Preston and the Lone Wanderer could start the first and the second? There is plenty across the commonwealth! Every enemy dead is a new gear for a possible Minutemen!

    • @xanditz
      @xanditz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      OK, Finally I decide to start the Nuka World. I just passed the gauntlet and started some smaller quests around. Since is a big issue in the beginning, we TOTALLY could have a 'good quest' to put the gangs to kill each other! That would make MUCH more sense to the 'Open Season' line. Play each gang against the other and then kill the leaders! It's so obvious! The plot exists already! The other Overboss was already doing it when you got the position.
      During the war between the gangs would would be easier to take the other bosses and eventually would be easier to convince the slavers to pick up the arms and fight for their home. Also, we could even have a optional quest to use the Minutemen to attack from outside.
      So, the quest would be:
      "Open Seson"
      - Do some quests to make the gangs start a internal fight.
      - Convince the slaves to fight for their home
      - Find a way to disarm the collars
      - Stash weapons for the slaves (much like the Synth quest)
      - Contact the minutemen to attack and make a distraction from outside.
      Also be able to put Gage on the right path after showing him how to do it.
      And BOOM! You have a awesome good and reasonable way to take back the Nuka World.
      They totally should keep the evil path as it is (Plus some more meaningful dialog and situations to provoke the Lone Wanderer to change sides).

  • @killercloud345
    @killercloud345 8 ปีที่แล้ว +84

    I play a good general character like you. I wanna play the good guy, the hero. MY big issue with fallout is the dimmed down RPG aspect of the game. From the second you step out of that cryo pod you are the good guy with just about everything you do. The most you can do in an evil run is join the Institute, or even the BoS. But I believe those options are morally ambiguous at most. Nuka World was a real punch to the gut for me. Yes it does give you a fantastic option to go evil, but you miss out on most of the entire 25$ DLC. The problem with it isn't that they were filling in the evil option. It's the allusion of the choice to be evil. The fantastic thing about the predecessors to Fallout 4 was the complete option to be Good, Evil, or any ground in between. Take megaton for example. I could keep it and Miss Moira. Or I could nuke it to hell. Take The Pitt DLC. You could lead a slave rebellion (Which i felt would have been a nice touch to NukaWorld) Or work for the big bad boss. The thing is is that no matter what morality you went with it was always an extremely fun, fleshed out story. Not this "Be only good or bad and if you pick the opposite fuck you" type of deal. Both the DLC and the RPG aspects were some of the most memorable parts of the previous games for me, and I feel let down that Bethesda seems to have given up on themselves in that regard. Fallout 4 is a very, very fun game with much to offer. But I feel with a little more thought it could have been so, so much more. And if you got this far I thank you for reading my paragraph. I give you the cookie.

    • @AGiantPie
      @AGiantPie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    This is kinda late, but you can get those raider ending perks by completing it normally then killing the raiders afterwards. As for the worry about destroying your settlements, just transfer most of the settlers away to different settlements before giving a settlement to the raiders- then take the settlement back after you kill the bosses. Also, you can lead people out of town for the raider radiant quests before collaring or killing them- this prevents the city from going hostile.

      Do all the taking of settlements and whatever to get the Ace Op etc perks and then go and see Preston. As long as you haven't started the minuteman questline (avoid Concord) until 'after' Nuka World, Preston will give you the same quest and this then corrects everything and gets you back on track with a happy Preston and all the settlements can be retaken.
      A couple of things wrong in the vid but the most important are the timing and the quest giver.

    I wish they included a quest branch that makes you convince the raiders the commonwealth is off limits.
    The raiders taking over Nuka-World already makes it the largest sole settlement that we have seen in the Fallout universe.
    Yes, keep the enslaving, etc., but leave the commonwealth alone. The raider gang you chose to only give one part of Nuka-World to would then break ranks and start raiding the commonwealth, resulting in the same reactions from companions as if you did start raiding the commonwealth (because it would be your fault for not keeping them under control).
    That way, there would be a middle ground.
    The best ending to Nuka-World is not doing anything for the raiders, and just starting open season. You get miscellaneous quests to clear the Nuka-World outposts (allowing you to keep any denizens there if you so desire), and then a miscellaneous quest to restart the power plant. It completely removes the raiders from Nuka-World, bar random encounters which reduces them to just normal bandit tribes.
    However, this ending will lock out basically all rewards from the raiders, but you get to leave Nuka-World with your head held high, so that's something

  • @Tearonex
    @Tearonex 7 ปีที่แล้ว +70

    Why couldn't there be an ending in which you can rehabilitate the raider factions and make them your own private army that *doesn't* take from others and goes around wiping out the other raiders, Gunners and Super Mutants factions in the Common Wealth? Why couldn't I *USE A FUCKING EMPTY SETTLEMENT FOR THEIR RAIDER BASE*!? Fallout 4 is fun but Nuka World highlighted it's biggest glaring problem, it's all wasted potential...

    • @skullaveraz
      @skullaveraz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tearonex you can actually establish outposts on empty settlements. However, you'd still need vassal settlements which you can bribe to supply your outposts (instead of just killing them). And they do roam the wasteland killing ghouls, raiders, rust devils etc which indirectly helps keeping the commonwealth safe. And they won't harm your settlements as you do have control over that decision

    • @krulltheskull
      @krulltheskull 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      One simple mod man. 'Skip Raiding Settlements'. It should have been an option to begin with, considering Bethesda new most people would probably have built up settlements, and everyone was disgruntled at the fact you had to raid what is basically your own territory and not new places. With that mod you just tell Shank you don't want to (they *just* got Nuka World ffs), and move on with Power Play. Boom, private army in the West, main territory in the East.

      There is a rehabilitated gang in New Vegas - The Great Khans. They don't go around raiding settlements anymore, like original Khans and New Khans used to, they just produce chems and sell them. The problem with others is that they aren't organized enough to talk to, and it takes a strong hand to control them. You could be the new Caesar who took over various gangs, put them under your control by any means, including painful death, and established his own empire. But I guess Fallout 4 is just too shallow for a plot like that.

I think I've gotten 50-60k just selling the gear from the dead raiders. I had gotten all the goodies from Porter Gage and Cola Cars arena beforehand. Also you can do those radiant quests without any violence or even antagonizing important factions, just lure the target out of the settlements with an easy speak check and collar them there; also avoid those quests targeting Minutemen or BoS, just save before you get them and then if you get such a quest load until you get one targeting gunners or raiders.

      I didn't like the choices in Far Harbor, either. But I loved the atmosphere the story had. The Nucleus, the synth hiding spot. On the other hand the park theme of NW is quite nice and the gameplay is like 300% more fun. Clearing Kiddie Kingdom was really exciting, for example. Far Harbor exploration on the other side bored me more than anything.

    It's when "home sweet home" I realized Gage is greater evil than Colter, by Gage's own word, Colter's mistake was only not too greedy, Colter was insane but the damage was limited. While Gage has his more rational plan to enslave the whole Commonwealth.

    I instantly killed Shank starting "Open Season" and then killed all the Raiders. Totally worth it and easily the most RPG points in entire games with choices that actually effect the world that are disappointingly absent from the game and even the loss of the benefits makes your actions count.

  • @fullyawakened
    @fullyawakened 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    You mentioned one of the drawbacks to choosing a good ending is that you lose all the settlement pieces that get unlocked after you start doing these quests for the raiders to take over Commonwealth settlements. Ive found that NOT to be the case. All new NukaWorld DLC settlement objects will unlock as you clear out the areas of the park and assign raider gangs to them. All the park ares can be cleared with absolutely no negative affects on your current status with the Minutemen and Preston. The negative effects only begin after you leave NukaWorld to enslave other settlements, which means you can complete the entire DLC and unlock all relevant special items and perks and quests before completing Open Season.

    • @oxhorn
      @oxhorn  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is an entire tab called "raider" that has raider-specific settlement objects, like flags, tribute chests, and chem dispensers, that you miss out on by not doing the evil ending.

    • @fullyawakened
      @fullyawakened 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oxhorn Thanks oxhorn for the clarification. I progressed slightly further by accepting Gage's request to spread out into the commonwealth and subjugate settlements and it did indeed open up even more settlement objects. However, I now found that the thing that actually causes Preston Garvey to see and leave is the instant you place a raider flag in one of your settlements. As long as you do not place a raider flag in an already established settlement you should be able to keep Preston as a companion and use the newly unlocked tab of raider items. I have not tested to see if you can claim a new settlement as a raider settlement without pissing off preston.

      Actually, good sir, I have noticed that while you need to start the quests to take back Nuka-world for the raiders to then open up the quests for taking Nuka-world back for the slaves, you don't actually need to claim a single spot in Nukaworld to open up the good ending. Hell, I just explored Nukaworld, decided I didn't feel like working with the Raiders, and just started bushwhacking the Disciples. Then, open season! It starts automatically should you just attack the leaders of the various gangs.

      Also, I made a point of killing Dixie first. Sneak attack with the gauss rifle, shooting her down like the rabid dog she was. It seemed fitting to deny the wretched thing the epic fight she always wanted, and blow her head off from an ambush. Why give her what she always desired before killing her? She was the one that finally just...made my decision for me.

    i can condense this video into this single post, play along with the raiders until you've gotten all of the side parks under control and unlocked their things, then kill the raiders, you have access to the full park and it's contents along with weapons and materials and you don't have to destroy everything you've been building

    My biggest complaint with Nuka World is that the good guy ending is so damn straightforward. You show up, see that everything in the place is terrible, then go on a rampage to clean the place up. There's no nuance to it. Compare it to The Pitt DLC for Fallout 3, where you have to complete several quests (i.e. cooperate with the villains) before you can choose to wipe out the slavers and free the slaves of the Pitt.
    On my first run, I chose to work with the raiders, despite being a good character, because I saw the potential to betray the gangs in clever ways. Killer robots? Radioactive water sprayers? Gatorclaw cloning machines? These were all environmental dangers that you had to deactivate before you gave the respective territories to the gangs. I figured that I could hand the territories over to the gangs, then manufacture a bloodbath to help thin the herds. Alas, I went in to clear things out, only to find that I had essentially wasted my time. So, I cleansed the park like you're supposed to if you're not going to play ball. Oh, well.

    • @connordenton7968
      @connordenton7968 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Some decent reasons is the best you could say, when being a raider on the side will make you damn near infinite caps, new, fun, radiant quests and a faction that isn't a piece of shit like the minutemen. At any point during the main game did you feel like a general? Didn't think so. This is a game, I really don't get why people cage themselves with this DLC wanting their fictional character to be good in a DLC that finally allows you to be evil. "Evil," because no person in the game will change the way they act towards you; I didn't talk to Preston during the DLC, and he's still as bland and shitty as always. You can peacefully take settlements for your Raider groups. I don't get people roleplaying and trying to make a "good" ending out of this DLC. It may be "good" but it isn't good or a good idea, and makes the game less interesting.

    • @yaoiboi60
      @yaoiboi60 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Shenanigans KY There's a thing called "roleplaying" and its the reason why several people decided to do the good route -.-
      I don't see how that's "caging" yourself, unless you view any roleplaying as caging yourself.
      Also the radiant quests are as fun as any other radiant quest.

    • @yaoiboi60
      @yaoiboi60 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Shenanigans KY First, to become the overboss without killing people is a thing no-one does and requires you to cage yourself hundreds more than just bloody killing the bad guys
      And second, "Good" does not necessarily mean "not killing people." and anyone past primary school would know that. Sometimes, especially when it comes to digusting people like most if not all of the raiders in the game, killing is for the greater good even more when it comes to preventing undue suffering and bloodshed.
      The reason why this route is morally superior was explained much better than I ever could, but I'll summarize it for you.
      The pack organise gladiator fights between animals and slaves and feed slaves to their bear whose name has escaped me.
      The disciples... well... they're the bloody disciples. Many lines of dialogue by them and other raiders allude to them practicing torture on slaves. The disciple's boss makes a habit out of murdering innocent wastelanders.
      The operators test a mind control drug on slaves, which they do through, obviously, torture. And then they kill them because their science skills aren't worth the scrap metal they call "armour"
      And if your idea of fun is turning an entire town irreversibly hostile then... good for you, I guess?

    • @connordenton7968
      @connordenton7968 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Scott The Dick It wasn't irreversibly hostile. Everything you see on youtube isn't correct. Killing for a greater good is evil, and how the Nazis did what they did, and how genocides in general are started. "morally superior" - this is a video game. You don't kill that many humans at all in becoming Overboss- Colter, and then the gang that tries to kill you when you go to turn on the power plant, that's it. I killed the pack, and don't care about the cannibalism the Disciples practice. It's a game. "Disciples boss" you meant Dixie, not the leader. Operators tested on members of other gangs too- found it didn't work- but found it worked on a trader, which is the lore behind why the grenades work how they do-only in towns.You say the Operator's armor isn't worth scrap metal, when it's 95% leather, and actually looks good. Again, Goodneighbor returned to peaceful, so it really sounds like you haven't played the DLC and are trying to troll, have fun being morally superior in a single player game, I bet all your friends and both your parents are proud of you.

    This is the video i needed, thanks. With a level 220 character and fully built up settlements, my character is not going to turn evil, period. You did a great job of detailing the Pro's and Con's of becoming a Raider. What i will do is create a new character with Raider leanings in mind and head over to Nuka World as soon as its mature enough. Just need to think up a good Raider name now, like Ray Jay or Soul Crusher. Subscribed.

      Meanwhile as someone who doesn't really use a settlement system, except for my main one in Sanctuary, I can happily turn over a few settlements I haven't ever visited to the raiders.
      The only bad thing would be the Minutemen turning against their General, but whatever, I still have a huge grudge against Preston Garvey going m.i.a. after taking the Castle with so many of my favorite weapons I can happily let him mark down settlements in heaven.

    In relation to nuka world, the perks and settlement items act as a guilty temptation, offered to sway people from the more moral option. I like that I have to sacrifice in order to remain true to my character's values.
    Additionally, people complaining about Nuka World being deserted following Open season are overdoing it, even when the zones are occupied there are no more than 10 raiders wandering around a loot chest. That's really not what I'd consider populated.

  • @Gustaf_V
    @Gustaf_V 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Nuka World is a cool DLC if you aren't into roleplaying as none of the factions you ally with would ever side with them. No matter how cruel you are, the closest to being a ruthless killer you'd get would be with the Institute or Brotherhood of Steel. But they still believe in Order, they would never ally with Raiders.
    It would've been cool if Raiders were an option from the get-go, instead of going Minuteman, you could maybe just wreak havoc on the Wasteland?

    • @Ulkomaalainen

      As far as I understand, that gets you stuck on every avenue. However, you can artificially skip the first settlement raid via console, then continue with the raiders' questline to repower Nuka World to get the perks, and then finally kill 'em off for good. No additional evil deeds beyond using the console, if you keep buying from Porter whenever you're there you'll have enough gang gear to outfit whole settlements, worked fine for me.
