Omg I loved your review, Harry was my fav character too and Evelyn and Celia were such fascinating characters ✨ I also liked Rex, apart from Harry, he was my fav “husband” lol A couple of points that I think you missed: 1. When Evelyn had that sex scene with Don, it wasn’t to help her career, it was to make an important statement about women enjoying sexual acts just for the sake of it and 2. Harry and Monique’s dad didn’t die in a “freak accident”, Harry was drunk driving because his bf had just told him they can’t be together since he didn’t want to leave his family, I thought that was an important plot point
What a wonderful story. I do agree that monique was a weak character but I feel like she had to be. Everyone pales in comparison to the evelyn hugo. I was skeptical to dive into another hyped up book but I'm so glad I did.
I also loved how much Monique has learned from Evelyn, and even though she was bitter about the way she handled her father's death, she was grateful for that
Just found your channel searching for reviews of this book, and I hardly ever comment on book review videos, but I have to tell you how much I enjoyed your review! The format, the content, the explicit spoiler warning! So well done. So often bookbloggers are too serious and their reviews don't seem genuine, but yours was so delightfully honest and real!
I finally read this book today and absolutely adored it!I feel the same as you do,Monique really didn't matter to me in the bigger scheme of things.I just wanted more and more of Evelyn's story.
this was the first book that i read by taylor jenkins reid but after reading this book, i want to check out the other ones! this was a GREAT book and i loved how realistic the characters were. great review!
thank you! And yes all of her books (besides forever interrupted in my opinion) are amazing! I especially recommend checking out Maybe In Another Life!
Great review! There were times when I loved Evelyn for her blunt honesty. She was unapologetically... herself. If that makes sense. But for that same reason there were times I really disliked her because she was so self serving. As you said that's what makes this book fantastic because she is so flawed. The last part of the book was a cry fest.
I completely agree with you. I loved the book and how realistic and flawed Evelyn was. I think Celia also made mistakes in their relationship (like, yes, Evelyn fucked up, but at least she stayed to talk things through and try to fight for them, Celia, after a lot of their fights just left and did not reach out for years, and I think it's pretty selfish she reached for Evelyn after she knew she was dying). I also loved Harry, and, like you, I thought Rex was adorable. While some of the decitions Evelyn made weren't ones I wouldn't have taken, I still respect them because, her character, as someone who has had her sexuality taken from her (viewed as a bombshell, not always enjoying sexual intercorse through the book, and how every person, even Celia, who loved her, also loved the idea of her as a femme fatal) taking a risk to show people a woman seeking her own pleasure, and not being only about the man's, is huge. I lover how unapologetic and empowered she was. And, as you've said, Monique's chapters felt... boring. I think that's the only critique I have of the book, I never felt invested in Monique because she was only the media the author used to tell us Evelyn's story, and I never felt she was her own character. Maybe in another life is the first book I read of Taylor Jenkings Reid, and is still my fav, but One true loves and The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo are still amazing and I'd love to re-read them all again and again :)
I just found your channel a few days ago, and I love it! A lot of the books you talk about I've never heard of, including this one. However, in one of the first videos I watched, you talked about this book and I was intrigued. I found it at my library and 2 days later it is one of my favorite of the year. Evelyn was so complex and I loved its message! Thank you for introducing it to me!
I love it so much and also I LOVE you and how much excited u were talking about it, I felt like ur talking directly to me and just in the same way I talk about it with my close friends
Finally read this book and I was totally blind-sided by the tears that were pouring out of me as Evelyn married Celia and experienced so much loss.. shocked by how much I empathized with such a tough/flawed protagonist
I literally just finished the audiobook and....... I am in tears. 4.5 stars! I agree with you though, Monique was my least favorite part of this book. I didn’t care about anything that had to do with her besides the (spoiler) fact that her father was the one who Harry fell in love with and ended up dying and the section with her mom describing her relationship with her father towards the end of the book 😭😭
I loved this book and the story of Evelyn's life is just fascinating. I have to thank you(!!) for recommending it on Instagram and here so thank you so so much! It gave me all the feels and even more. :)
I just watched your review and I loved it but I feel like you missed out a lot of major points of the book. SPOILERS AHEAD. Like Evelyn didn't die of breast cancer she takes her own life in the end and Monique realises at the last moment? Thats a huge part of the book. And also Harry didnt die in a 'freak' accident he died cause he was drunk driving and Evelyn puts the blame on Monique's dad. If you had mentioned that then the serious issue of drunk driving which is also brought up in the book could have been brought to light in this video. Good review, but there were big points of the book missing and it felt a bit rushed.
OMG I finally got a chance to read this book and God I loved it so very much it was like watching a movie. Harry oh my Harry is my favorite character he so cute, supportive and loving man 😍. Everyone girl needs a Harry in her life.
Can you guys give me an estimate how long you read this book in one sitting? I've had mistakes over the past and physically paid the next day. My work is too demanding these days and I certainly have to read to keep myself sane. I still have work over the weekend but Im excited to read it. Also English is my 2nd language which probs make my reading time longer. Thanks. Also love the review. I turned my volume down when spoilers came 😁
This book was AMAZING! Also I totally fucking called it as well, as soon as they met and she talked about the way Celia looks at her, I was like: love of your life there for yaaaa 😍❤️
I'm a few years late, but I just finished this book. I LOVED it. It was heartbreaking so many times over! I felt very similarly about Monique, I didn't really get invested with her character at all, Evelyn's life stole the show =D
i'm a few years behind but i. loved. this. book. really enjoyed your book talk about it and agree. i've only finished it last night but will be doing my own book talk as well because this was just so GOOD
Yesssss! I was lowkey kinda disappointed in one review that's entitled "spoiler free" but ended up talking about her sexuality. I love how Gabby warned us in this video multiple times before getting into that part
This book was soooooo good! For a book with so many flawed characters, I feel so much for most of them! I loved Harry and Evelyn's friendship!
Omg I loved your review, Harry was my fav character too and Evelyn and Celia were such fascinating characters ✨ I also liked Rex, apart from Harry, he was my fav “husband” lol

I am so glad I read this. It wasn't what I thought it would be, but in the best way
Same! :)

aw thank you so much! I appreciate it :)
I listened to the audiobook and it was so spectacular! I loved this book.
I finally read this book today and absolutely adored it!I feel the same as you do,Monique really didn't matter to me in the bigger scheme of things.I just wanted more and more of Evelyn's story.

thank you! I totally agree! At times her selfishness really bothered me, but honestly it made her all the more complex and human! :)
I completely agree with you. I loved the book and how realistic and flawed Evelyn was. Yes…I am obsessed with Evelyn and more interested with her wife!
I’m obsessed with this book I finished the audiobook yesterday
I loved this book and the story of Evelyn's life is just fascinating. I have to thank you(!!) for recommending it on Instagram and here so thank you so so much! It gave me all the feels and even more. :)

I loved this book too! I had never read any of Reid's stuff before, but now that I've read this one I think I'm going to like her older stuff
Yes you should! I've loved every single one of her books except for Forever Interrupted! But all her other books are so amazing! :)
Can you guys give me an estimate how long you read this book in one sitting? I've had mistakes over the past and physically paid the next day. if you loved evelyn hugo you would fall in love with Celia Hepburn: the secret life of a hollywood legend (inspired by celia's character)

SPOILER ALERT 🚨
Many reviews spoiled me about Evelyn’s sexuality. You are probably the only one to not talk about it in the review.
Yesssss! I was lowkey kinda disappointed in one review that's entitled "spoiler free" but ended up talking about her sexuality. I love how Gabby warned us in this video multiple times before getting into that part
You should have said that she is bisexual at the start
