That subway car running on overhead wires is certainly one of the stranger train cars that I've ever seen.

Thank you for watching Conductor Kenny, yes it is strange... Actually it is more common practice at the trolley museums this isn't the first time I have seen this setup..

Interesting. It still looks odd seeing one subway car on its own like that.

it's interesting to think that at one time.. these trolleys where used to transit port people around on a daily.. now here they are at museums...

Thank you for watching James yes it is interesting.. Thankfully to the museums and dedicated volunteers for the up keep of these trolleys or else they most likely would have been scrapped years ago.. At least one thing some cities and areas are starting to bring back streetcars and trolleys, mostly in the form of light rail.. I know you are back in NY, have you ridden the Hudson Bergen Light Rail, also I know the politicians proposed a new streetcar route from Queens to Brooklyn maybe one day it will happen.

other then taking those pictures of the queensboro trolley.. and going to governers island.. staten island.. and astoria a few times.. even on the astoria ferry. but no i have never ridden the Hudson Bergen Light Rail. did go by what was left of the rockaway branch that is abandon.. but didnt go to explore.

you're just a subway ride then short PATH train ride away from the HBLR.. Exchange Place, Pavonia Newport or Hoboken you can make your PATH connections right to the Light Rail... Just set aside a random day to ride you can ride the whole HBLR system in just a few hours.

Thank you for watching Halton County Radial Railway greetings from The Shore Line Trolley Museum. As you can see I am railfan who loves all forms of rail and there is a place in my heart for trolleys. Honestly, I still wished that most cities still had the trolleys in operation, but am thankful to these museums for preserving these now artifacts.

How do they keep these things running? Do they make parts they need? Do they have a giant stash of original parts? For me, the NYCTA Subway car is a sad picture because I rode those cars in NYC. I suppose I'm a "purist", but it just made a less-than-positive impression on me. Too bad they weren't able to get a PRR MP54 that DID run on overhead wire. All in all, thought, it IS quite an impressive collection of urban transit's past.

Thank you for watching Cats01, yes it's an impressive collection I understand over 90 pieces they have. To keep them running spare parts, I guess they scour other railways / museums / private collections etc.. Just like a number of other museum yes I did notice random parts like in the back areas of property. I guess if all else fails a number of homemade parts and lots of elbow grease.. I guess being that they take what they can get, if they have to modify some components such as the electrical pickup even though not original at least they are able to get it running able to use it at least, better than letting it rot.. Would be kind of cool though if they could set up a third rail but I guess that might pose a bit of a safety hazard..
