  • The talk covers the history of the fenland waterway systems in eastern England, with a tour round the currently navigable parts. We begin on the Grand Union Canal near Northampton and travel down the River Nene, across the Middle Level and around the Great Ouse system.
    The presentation ends with a brief look at fenland waterways in south Lincolnshire and proposals for a new waterway link between the River Witham and the River Nene.

    Whittlesey straw bear festival is held in mid-January.
    Enjoyed the presentation very much, the fenland drainage is such a complicated story.

    Why is there more headroom in winter? Surely the water level would be higher then?

    i stopped watching when Jhon said Nene wrong
