- I got a new lantern and waited to try it out until I could show all of you at the same time that I opened it up for the first time.

Lol love the bloopers at the end! Cool lantern setup, it definitely makes things around camp much easier if you can see! :)

I found one of these lanterns in the trash the other day LOL yes I'm a dumpster diver and I'm proud of it LOL thank you for showing me how to take it apart and light it and all that stuff. Hugs hugs

I haven't used one like that before, I'm old school and use the pump-ups 😜 LOL
But now that I have a new propane genny, I'm thinking in other directions 👍
Honestly, the pressure lanterns (pump-ups) are still my favorite. MUCH more romantic and cool factor.
I have never done my mantels that way. Nice new lantern Rob. Got to love having a propane tree, very useful.

Nice! I remember the radioactive mantles. I was just thinking that when you mentioned it. I've never tried the ones with the clips. I've always tied them on. That makes for a nice setup.
It does make it easy with the clips. But it just seems wrong. Lol.

I just broke the glass of ours. The bottom of the box it was in gave out when was carrying it.

Crap. Yes, I've had that happen several times too. Lift the box/carry case and ....OOPS! As for those instructions, Yeah, I'm a good Samaritan that way. Lol.
I like the wire mantels much better than the old string mantels. I break the mantels almost every time I fist start up a propane lantern. Really like the new lantern and case. Just a tip if you put your propane tank in a milk crate it fits really well and less tipping hazard. Thanks for showing the new lantern and case Rob.

Yeah, Chance, I looked at them a couple of times before I finally decided to get one. Had a couple of propane lanterns that I used on the big bottle set-up many years ago and had forgotten how much I liked it.
I like the design of the self enclosed case. I like my old pump up ones, but haven't used them in years. I can see where the propane ones would be handy, but don't like the thought of lugging propane bottles around with me... The POS LED lanterns I keep buying give off great light, last a long time on a set of batteries, but they all seem to die after a year... Think I'll look into one of these!
Yeah, the propane bottles can be kind of annoying, but with the big bottle and the muti-hook-up set-up that I'm using there, it makes it pretty convenient. Plus, I'm not sure I've EVER used up a whole 20 lb cylinder in one outing.
@@RobPainless I didn't notice the multi-hook-up. I thought you had a bottle on each of them. That could make it a bit more convenient, except for possibly tripping over hoses in the dark... yeah, I'm that guy... 😆
Old Coleman stuff is the best. Fairly sure the new stuff is not lol
Geiger count is a useful bit of kit Rob. I opened the emp box last week due to power issues here so used the Geiger counter. Our place is not radioactive so no radon
You're right, HC, old Coleman stuff is awesome. I wish I had a geiger counter too. Radon not a big issue here (like it was where I lived in the Colorado mountains) but would still be nice to have one.....ya know, just in case.

Just an fyi. Coleman stopped making the radioactive mantles out of an abundance of caution for the employees making them. You can still get third party radioactive ones.

@@RobPainless You might be interested in the TH-cam channel _Technology Connections_ where he goes into a great amount of detail on the lanterns (all three major types of fuel) and history. He had so much material he had to cover some on his second channel.

That's the latest model , but its not that new. I got 2 of them in storage for over 5 years, I never use them anymore, I also have multiple attachments for the 20lb propane tank that I never use anymore, I have moved to all rechargeable, except the stove of course.

@@RobPainless Even though I don't use my propane gear anymore, I consider it a backup to my backups, not a bad idea keeping it around, I also have the hoses that connect to the propane bar in your video.

What’s the name of the propane tree? Never saw that before.
There's several different brands. I see them at Cabelas, Wal-Mart, Academy Sports and other places. Almost always in the camping section. Thx!

Ok, sorry. Took me 5 minutes. But, that's because I wrote down the model numbers of the other Coleman stuff I have too. THAT propane stove.... it's a model 5423E700....pretty sure. There were a couple of different model numbers on there, but I'm 99% sure that's right. If you want 'em, I have the model numbers from my 3 different pressure fuel stoves and my 3 pressure fuel lanterns! Lol. Sorry It took me so long!

doesnt that give off carbon monoxide or something? isnt that dangerous?
It does give off a bit of CO (carbon monoxide) but absolutely not a problem when used outside, and not really a problem when used indoors with adequate ventilation. I've even used them in small campers with all windows and doors closed with no problems. However, that isn't the 'advisable' thing to do. They're very safe, but of course it's always a good idea to be cautious.

@@redsresearch Because automobiles give off infinitely more carbon monoxide than a lantern. And cars aren't a problem.

@@redsresearch Ah. Ok, gotcha. I've used them indoors many times and never had any problems. I also know other guys who used them indoors, both in homes and camper trailers, and never had any problems either. But, there was probably always plenty of decent ventalation. Gas and propane cookstoves are very common and is what we use here at our home and (i would think) produce much more CO than a small lantern or stove. Still, good to be cautious.
