Three days late, because of lack of good hoyt bow shops in SC I bought the bow in Colo (have a cabin there) and ordered a last chance portable bow press with draw board. Had a bad tail left tear, plus couldn't see all my sight. Move both shims top and bottom, now it's as close to perfect as I'll ever do. Thanks for explaining, I now understand what I did 😎
Since that time I bought a shim kit from Lancaster Archery, this allowed me to use a thicker shim on the right to move sting to the left, top and bottom. The only thing you need to do is Mike the stock shims togather and then pick shims that are the same Total width. I shooting the best I ever have since doing that. Must be 30/40 shims in kit for apt 50$
Finally got my ventum today...first time ever setting up my own bow...top cam off 3/16 or so... thanks to this vid... now in time... would love to see the full set up when u get the time...thanks for doing this for us...
I usually don't comment on vids. But dude your vids are the bomb man. Love them. Always super informative and i like the honest opinions. Live in rural Utah. Because of a couple bad experiences with our local shop I've decided to go full blown self service - i love bows and should've done it a long time ago honestly. Just got my press last week, and your vids give me all the info im looking for. Keep up the good work boss!
One other item, those who don't have access to the Hoyt shim tool can use a Hemostat curved 5.5 to hold shims, it works great. Amazon or having a nurse in the family helps.
This is a 5 min job for someone who knows what they’re doing. That’s how long it took me to swap the spacers from one side to another, and shot bullets. Relatively easy and painless.
I have a ventum 33. I do think there's a slight flaw with the system. One as you mentioned, if you push the cams to the right, if you use something like a spot hogg there's no getting around the riser blocking part of the housing (in part because the riser is so fat in that area). Also if you use the black spacers, fletch clearance is minimal. I got my right tare out by swapping the bottom grey spacers, and even then clearance is close. Hoyt also mentioned this in their tune chart. Maybe a split cable system like Mathews would help this? It would pull on both sides of the cam instead of hard on one side. Just a thought.
Great info for all of the wannabe tuners! 👍🏽 Def need a press! Anyone that wants to tune their own equip could save this vid for a reference for speed and efficiency.
Hey thanks just what I was looking for. An explanation of cause and effect for the HBX system. Just to let you know the Hoyt support site has a short video on the procedure of changing them out with the special tool. Just not why or which way.
Thank you this was the first helpful video I found for my rx5. I’m adjusted all the way in on my MX integrate QAD rest and the arrow still sits inward. Need to find out where to buy the shim kit. Mine is so far out I’m pretty sure my fletchings are hitting my down cable. Not sure why it’s so far off but it’s bad. Had it at two bow shops now and no help.
Are you noticing that with the new hoyts, they are not timed with the shims and cams?. I get it with the d-loop and arrow rest may need to be adjusted but you would think that the cams should be timed and no need to add or remove shims especially on a new bow direct from the factory. Especially at the prices they are charging for their new flagship bows.
Shimming is always an issue that depends largely on the shooter‘s grip so it’s very individual. A bow that is shimmed/tuned for me probably won’t shoot well for you and as far as timing goes, you just have to re-check it after a couple hundred shots and all the components have settled in. That’s just the way it is with new bows - no matter the manufacturer...
I bought the ventum 30 and noticed looking down from the top of the bow my arrow was pointing way left,.. I started doing some measurements and the string from the riser to the outside of the string was slightly above a half an inch, I really hope I'm not going to have to lean the cams way out with the shims to compensate for that.
@@chethans7491 if i got a new bow and the shims were that much out, i would send it right back to hoyt! Get them to fix the issue. Brand new bows should not be delivered like that, they should be pretty close to perfect out of the box... that is just my opinion.
Thanks for the video. I have never heard a bowtech refer to the faster cam as "open." It is a bit confusing because I think of an "open" cam during the draw cycle as the one that leaves a gap between the stop and the cable, i.e. slower.
I know for a fact my local hoyt shops won’t give you the time of day especially if you didn’t buy the bow brand new from them. I tent to try to save as much money as I can and buy used bows from others or eBay etc. unfortunately I lose out on customer service from shops by doing that.
I noticed you're not running a spring on your hamskea. Do you need to swap out the lever arm to delete the spring? What are the advantages of deleting the spring?
on my ventum 30 I set my center shot and now im getting fletching contact on my cables. my bow shop ordered the shim kit but while we wait for it to show up( we are in Canada) I was curious if you had any suggestions for the shims that are already in it. it looks like my shims are crossed. thicker one on the left bottom and top right of the cams. couldnt I just put both thick shims on the right side to push the cams over?
I paper tuned my Mathew’s Vertix w rest only but ended up moving rest way left and now my sights are maxed on adjustment. I’ve adjusted rest back the other way during a walk back tune to get center. And checking on paper still pretty good. Should I try to mess w shims and yokes now to try n get the adjustment back in my sights ? I feel confident in my groups now except when shooting fixed blades I get more open groups past 25yds which I can’t say if it’s just my shooting, or what.
Hey , such a great video!!! What should the centre of the arrow be (more or less) from the riser at the button be on a Ventum 30, I had to pu the cams as far left as possible to get my vanes to clear the bus cable (Max Stealth vanes) It was aiming waaaaay left when the rest was in its centre (QAD Integrate) position. Moved it in a s far as I can to get it straight as possible without hitting the cables.
What is the center shot supposed to be for the RX5? Mine should be in next week and can’t find it online Hoyt says 5/8-13/16 but curious if anyone has a better, more precise measurement to start
Yep, that rx5ultra I picked up a couple weeks ago needed older Hoyt slightly thinner and slightly wider shims to get it out of the slight tear, glad Trent found them hidden away. oh, sorry again I took the Ultra you were going to review on, ALL YALL WAITING CAN BLAME ME. :)

Hello, I am struggling with tuning my Ventum. Its perfect through the paper but the arrow points significantly left. I tried all the shims, but it still points to the left. Any help would be much appreciated :)
How far away is the paper tune. Seems like many pros talk about a close up paper for initial setup and then a 20 or 21 ft paper tune.
