Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. It has the most populous urban area in Sweden as well as in Scandinavia. 1 million people live in the municipality, approximately 1.6 million in the urban area, and 2.4 million in the metropolitan area. The city stretches across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. Outside the city to the east, and along the coast, is the island chain of the Stockholm archipelago. The area has been settled since the Stone Age, in the 6th millennium BC, and was founded as a city in 1252 by Swedish statesman Birger Jarl. It is also the county seat of Stockholm County.

Kungsträdgården is probably the most beautiful subway station in Stockholm. Still looks the same after so many years.

I'd seen Central station and some parts of the metro on a series here in the UK called The Architecture the Railways Built, so it was fascinating to see some more. It really is nothing like I've seen before and very quirky. I like it a lot! I saw the first signs of the cherry trees turning autumnal yellow, so they will look lovely on sunny autumn day as the colours develop. They are piano keys btw.

The clicking is indeed for blind people, since it's the end station you don't actually know which side the train is on. So it always clicks on the side with the train that will leave soon.

During a discreet visit to the Freemason temple in Stockholm, Bååtska palace, the organisation's headquarters on Blasieholmen, the guide explained in passing that Kungsträdgården's subway station is in fact the Freemasons' own pre-temple!? A Masonic Temple? Could this really be possible?
-There is so much that is mysterious these days, the guide answered evasively to a direct question.
Experienced travelers have probably noticed that this station is more exclusive than others. It is also directly below SEB Bank and Investor's (that is, Wallenbergs, see page 725) head office on Kungsträdgårdsgatan.
According to SL's presentation, this underground exhibition is about History, Past and Present, and the artist Ulrik Samuelsson carried out the decorative design together with architects and technicians from SL and Trafiken's Art Board. The ceiling paintings were carried out in collaboration with Arne Fredrikson and the sculptures in the western part of the station towards the Gallery are casts or originals from buildings that exist, or have existed, in the vicinity of the Royal Garden, for example the Makalös palace built by the de la Gardie family in the 17th century.
But if we study the station's decoration with the guide's statement in mind, it is easy to see a different picture. Everywhere there are sculptures and objects that directly allude to Masonic rituals, from the black and white pattern that adorns the escalator descent to all the paintings on the ceiling of the subway station. Black ravens, skulls and portraits of the devil are found hidden among many other motifs whose meaning is unknown to the author. A male figure identical to a painting inside the masonic palace, for example, reappears in different variations.
