Congratulations on the wonderful win! My goodness what a solid and important book. You bought this at the right time.
Thanks, Alex! Yeah, I think so. Hadn't bought a silver-age major key since 2018. Given they are down big time and some of my golden age books are up big time....seems like a decent time to trade. I can't trade too much though b/c you know what type of golden age freak I am :-)
Congrats on the FF1. That Schomburg book looks great as an isolated spine split can result in a nice book.
Thank you, Jim. Agreed. Flaws that are hard to see from the front - but decrease the grade significantly - offer us great opportunities to obtain good looking books at reasonable prices.
Nice haul Keston. Way to go on finally getting your Marvel Mystery 40. Fantastic Four 1 6.0...👏 👏 👏
Thanks, HazelDan. Glad I could join you in the FF1, 6.0 club :-). Not many of us. Yeah, I've been hunting that MM40 for a long time. It was the very top book on my want list for the last two years.
That marvel mystery is incredible. Love schomburg WWII covers. So much to see and so intricate and interesting every time you see it. Amazing presenting copy can’t believe condition for a wartime comic
This may sound weird to many but the MM40 brings me more joy than the FF1 (and I LOVE FF1). I'd put that cover up with any in the hobby.
@@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 I wonder if it’s because you are a scarcity hunter? Man I love FF1 too. But to have that MM IS HOLDING A TRULY scarce GEM 💎
@@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 I love those schomburg war covers. I’d love to just put up ten of them across my wall. It would tell the entire history of the war through comics
Nice pick-ups, Keston - have to admit I was a bit shocked to see silver age being show cased on your channel :) Know you are really a golden age afficionado :)
Hi rwc. I'm still a golden age freak, but am trying to vary it up a little bit. One of the reasons I've barely touched silver age in the past three years is because the books were just too expensive. Perhaps I'll go after a couple more SA keys in the next year or two if they stay reasonable :-)
Very good pickups, Keston. I have some books by XELA and am on the hunt for Captain America #47. He has such great WWII covers.
Hi Rocket! You have great taste. Marvel Mystery and Caps are the best series for cover art. Good luck scoring a Cap 47.
🤩 🤩 🤩 on FF1 🎉🎉🎉
Congrats, very nice books. I especially love your Thing #11. I like many of the books in that run. I have #15, which is my favorite (and *ought* to be designated a classic cover imo).
Half-a-kman, great to hear from you again. Yeah, Thing is an awesome series.
FF1 is in my list to buy (in any grade). Great haul. An heirloom 👏 well done very happy for you beother
Thanks, man. Had a beautiful 4.5 at one point and let it go. Had to get another FF1 in the collection.
@@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 I’m trying to find a low grade FF1. I’m going for some bigger books as the prices have been down
Wow. Congrats! I’ve tried that same approach a few times (on much smaller books of course!) and not had the same luck. Maybe one day. Haha. Great stuff.
Hi, TK. Yeah...I've won a few books over the years doing this....with probably 200 bids :-)
Whenever I see ink overspray I imagine the whomp of a big bound stack of comics hitting the concrete getting delivered to a newsstand. Two of my own favorite books have distributor spray and wouldn't trade them for anything. Phenomenal pick-ups across the board.
HI Waz, I appreciate the "whomp" imagery. Thanks for the kind words.
i picked up the 2.5 marvel 40 on heritage in sept and really had to pay up - the marvel 44 is also very cool imo.
Congrats Malibu! Yeah, you were in the same boat as me. IMHO it's an undervalued book, even though it has spiked up recently. Yeah, MM40 and MM44 are certainly cousins.
Excellent books Keston! I had a similar experience buying a personal grail this past week (although it was a buy it now price instead of an auction). I saw a Showcase4 come up for sale in a CGC 3.5 (R very slight color touch to spine) and I had spoken with the seller over a few days, and to be honest I was hesitant with the price as I do plan on having the CT removed. But as soon as I was considering the pass, he dropped the price 25% and I HAD to pick it up ⚡️ such an amazing book to add to my PC, but definitely selling a couple other books at the moment 😂
Great content as always K
VERY, VERY, nice. Truth be told, I've been gunning for a Show 4 more aggressively than an FF1. Love that book. Congrats!
Great books. Next time you need to sell your under copies please tell me. There were a few i would have liked to have gotten.
Hi CCG. Hopefully, we can connect in Florida. I've still got quite a few undercopies. I can probably hook you up with something good!
@@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 I'll be in Sarasota at the end of December. Let's plan a way to meet.
Wow, incredible FF1! Congrats on that amazing deal. I’m happy enough to have a 1.8 of that baby. 😊 Did you say you sold “undercopies” to raise money for the purchase? What’s an undercopy?
I would also like to know this. I presume that means he has the book in a higher grade, but, damn Keston did you get every Shomberg that's ever been printed or what?
Hi Diodelad. Thanks so much. Glad to join you in the FF1 club. Yeah, for the Schomburg airbrushed books, I've got several copies of most of the 37 different issues. I didn't consign my highest graded copies of each book; they were my "under copies."
Hi Brian! I wish. Of the 600 books that Schomburg has drawn, I own about 45 of them...but I do have about half of the most important ones :-)
The number of Schomburg's you had to sell for the FF1 made my head spin, but that book is too important to comic book history, and deserves to be part of every serious collectors PC. Congrats Keston!
Thanks, Shane! Great to hear from ya. Yeah, I had been hoarding Xela books. Hate to give them up but FF1 is worth it.
