All of the original films and digitized copies are housed at the Ogden Union Station Archives. Wish there were more to work on.

Really enjoyed seeing the Weyerhauser train in Chehalis. I was really young at the time that one was filmed, but would have been in "train heaven" to have seen that in person. I never got to see much of the WAM (Weyerhauser & Milwaukee) operations. We lived further north up the Chehalis Sub near Roy, WA. I had no idea at the time Weyerhauser was running jointly on the Milwaukee Road between Chehalis and Vail. Weyerhauser apparently handled a log train out of Curtis and another out of Vail. They would be merged around Maytown and Western Jct during daylight hours. Then the Milwaukee Road would bring down empty bunks from Tacoma and take the loads into Tacoma. Unfortunately, the Milwaukee part of the operation occurred during overnight hours when I was in bed asleep. I can count on my hand the times I saw the WAM logger making a rare run during the day between 1974 and 1980.

Nice to hear from someone from that area and what you remember about it or learned from the video. Thanks. Its been a while since anyone has commented on this film.

@@LeeWitten thank you for sharing this video. I never saw that Alco C415 until 1981 or maybe 1982 after the Milwaukee Road left the West. It ran the ballast train those days if it went north of Western Jct. I got to ride in it twice in spring of 1991 and again in May 1992 during the Chehalis Western days. I had no idea they would shutter the railroad just weeks after I got to ride in May 1992.

Another excellent job of stitching together this old film. Really enjoyed it. I know a lot of work has gone into putting that together with sound and music. Tip top.

The Weyerhaeuser train was in Kelso, WA., inbound towards Longview.

Was the Kenecott Copper Co. Railroad narrow gauge? It looks like maybe 3 foot gauge, and awkwardly shaped engines too. they seem taller than they are wide, in a "tall and lanky" sense.
    Pretty neat looking though!

I'm pretty sure it was standard gauge. We have two of their old cabooses and they are standard.

Lee Witten Thanks for the response. I was figuring so, considering Nevada Northern #40 came from there and is also standard gauge. Interesting stuff, though. Another question, was the line on the mine shelf a spiral or a switch back? I assume it was a switchback, but I haven't really seen much of this stuff. Then again I haven't really looked lol.

The odd shaped diesels are EMD GP39's, possibly -2's. They were built with an Especially high cab for improved visibility. I think they are still running today but can't remember which railroad they went to. I think another short line in Utah.

      @@stephensaasen8589 1:16 That's no GP39. these are what I was referring to.
