👧I love the 'futuristic' look of the sound interpretation machine. I would see that in my sleep every night. Moreover, I love the dress that Gerald's mother is wearing❣❣

Lovely. Thanks for posting this ancient treasure so I could find it again.
I began with Gerald before I'd even heard of Doctor Seuss, due to my love of imitating outside world noises to the exclusion of regular speech-and to the utter distraction of my poor, belabored, folks. Somehow my parents found me a 45rpm recording of the Gerald McBoing-Boing song . . .
"Tucked in his bed and sound asleep, is little Gerald McCloy . . . drifting off to the land of dreams is this very unusual boy . . . though he looks like any other boy, sleeping there in bed . . . he doesn't talk like other boys, he says: "Boing Boing", instead"
This was back in '56 or '57, I think, so it goes way back with me.

Gerald's voice had to go around the world to return (decoded) to the ears of their parents, in practice the same work that routers and network packets (tcp/udp) do with people who chat with each other even a few meters away...beautiful video very funny without being moralistic (there would be a lot to talk about the humor of these cartoons as a rebellion against the dominance of Disney's "realism" and "credibility")

Title on this should be updated. It isn't the original "Gerald McBoing Boing" from 1950. This is a followup that stars the same character, but is called "How Now Boing Boing" from 1954. You can find the original elsewhere on TH-cam.

4:36-4:54 is pretty freakin dark for a little short made for kids. "Can't get this one kid to speak. Better kill myself." He doesn't even want to go out with dignity either. He wants it thorough. I don't know what's in that green bottle, but a raw egg with shells AND poison? Gee, can't take any chances with salmonella failing to get him so just to be on the safe-side, he throws it in some arsenic

Was Gerald McBoing Boing Dr Seuss' name for a 'Foley Walker'?

It's poignant watching this with a modern sensibility. There was nothing "wrong" with Gerald. He didn't speak, but he does communicate. He's not cognitively challenged. For the parents, it's more about the "stigma" of not having a "normal" kid. For the scientist, it's all about his reputation and peer pressure. The tack on the chair reminds of how they thought if they exposed a hearing impaired kid to a loud noise that they might hear. Gerald is truly not disabled but differently-abled. Don't get me wrong, I love these UPA cartoons.
