It was the only movie in a few years that I didn't hit pause or grab my phone. A fascinating last splash by an American master. "Every work by a master is a masterpiece." - Lester Bangs
He did his best stuff when reigned in by the studio, on a restricted budget, with a co-writer...after he became a name director, he got high on his own farts.
nah it's Just your pretentious cinephilic ass trying to vomit. I can bet you know nothing about filmmaking. Even leaving aside all these, Coppola has only made critically bad movies apart from his Godfather apocalyse now and the conversation.
Great info. Although I hate all the bash Megalopolis is getting, I would love if this financial failure forces Coppola to work on a fourth Godfather movie, now that he's in bankrupt again like in 1990 when he did The Godfather III.
If you can think of anyone from Hollywood that was famous 20 years ago, chances are they signed petitions in support of Roman Polanski. Coppola isnt alone in this. The whole system is rotten. Its all "separate the art from the artist" until it no longer serves the artist.
Coppola has said One from The Heart was supposed to be shot and scored live they would shoot for as long as possible until they needed to reload than once loaded pick up were they left off and do so until done, the idea was to have everything done in camera so all you would have to do is merge the cuts and that was the final edit, the cinematographer asked if he had to that and they changed it Coppola has described it as one of his biggest regrets
If you make The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, you've earned the right to red carpet duds for the rest of your life. Orson Welles died for Hollywood's sins after all. I'll see every movie Francis wants to make.
If they have a real executive producer and AD they will. Problem is that he was director/producer/writer/camera He was so far in his lala land he couldn't see straight
they have huge egoes...thinking the succes of their movies is because of them only. A movie takes THOUSANDS of people, many many creative minds providing guidance to the director. He can not just think that all it takes is him to make another great movie....
I have lost all faith in Coppola, as you say, he hasn't had "it" since the 90s, and Megalopolis showed no change in trajectory. I would love to be surprised and proven wrong.
did Coppola write megalopolis? being a great director and producer is one thing but writing is completely different, it's like how the showrunners of Game of Thrones did an incredible job adapting but couldn't write in place of the writer at all
@@roncur Honestly no. Your mind will wonder at times due to the writing, but overall you left saying wtf did I just watch. I guess it's like watching a train crash.
He should produce and elevate new talent to the directors chair. Megalopolis biggest issue was that of direction, so many performances in scenes where just nonsense because the pieces did not fit together.
Do you know about how money works? Coppola spent the money himself. He doesn't have to make a profit or pay anybody back, he can use whatever money the movie does make. As far as "devoid of filmmaking basics" I couldn't disagree more. For me he was firing off every single aspect of film making masterfully. people said the same things about David Lynch at first. It's like a homage to everything and a parody deconstruction that is completely sincere at the same time. You could teach a master class on the editing and sound design alone. Time will be very kind to this movie.
After the last disaster Megalopolis, this so called director / producer wants to produce another disaster? Go for it Francis, out do the last disaster! but I'm no waiting
The trailer for Megolopolis is painful to wacth. It looks like a cross between Gadiator and the Great Gatspy with a touch of Blade Runner. In other words , a complete mess. His children should gather round and keep thier father from squandering the remainder of thier inheritance. 😂
Megalopolis obviously didn’t work as a conventional film, but it was still wildly entertaining. If Coppola wants to fund his own films like that, I'm all for it. I much prefer watching an experimental mess than Hollywood mediocrity.
I too had pre-judged Megalopolis but gave it a go and it’s undeniably fascinating - one of the best of the year.
Thank you, somebody outside the queue

Just when i thought i was out he pulled me back in
This guy’s more creative than Spielberg.
@@Michael_Macriquote is a sopranos reference
Spielberg is massively overrated, and basically a propagandist of the US Empire.

Coppola at his best is the best filmmaker of all time, only Kubrick comes close in my view.

Megalopolis is a great film. Time will be kind to it.
"Great" is tossed around way too freely these days
@@BUKUDI even worse is "masterpiece"
This is called "spending your kids inheritance"
His kids are talented.
They already are well settled....
his kids and grandkids are already rich on their own
Maybe his best friend Victor Salva can help him. Great director but F him for defending that creep.
Amen. It's such a vile thing. Defending the convicted pedophile abuser and blacklisting the victim for speaking out.
Thanks for bringing that up because need to know about what he did. Poor Casey man “The clowns.”

“Apocalypse Again: Part II: The Sequel: Electric Boogaloo”
Glimpses of the Moon sounds interesting to me.
next movie about baal worship in the yiddish banker mafia.
Yeah he doesn’t want Megalopolis to be his last movie I guess
Coppola has said One from The Heart was supposed to be shot and scored live they would shoot for as long as possible until they needed to reload than once loaded pick up were they left off and do so until done, the idea was to have everything done in camera so all you would have to do is merge the cuts and that was the final edit, the cinematographer asked if he had to that and they changed it Coppola has described it as one of his biggest regrets

No one is going to give him money to make another film. If he self finances again it will bankrupt his entire family. Megalopolis is his final movie.
They say find what you love and let it kill you. That’s that they say.

Back to da CLUB *click click*
yeah we do deserve that.
He should end it with a Godfather movie
Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!
Despite whatever MEGALOPOLIS turns out to be, never underestimate Coppola.
I wish he’d just make godfather 4 for his last movie
Me too!!!!
not a good idea we have reboots and endless franchises
Megalopiss crawled into theaters for warmth. Cooler heads prevailed tony uncle cineranter
Watching Megalopolis entitles me to another movie
youre entitled to shit. literally. so go back up in club.
I don't think Megalopolis was the sign that Coppola should stop directing. Twixt was the sign that he should stop.
what was so bad about twixt? I thought it was strange but certainly captivating.
At least he’s willing to put his money where his mouth is. You can’t say that about most film directors these days.
distant vision wasnt already released in limited form?
I’ll visit the porch in a bit , pain in my….
We Good.
How about a Godfather 4
FFC was going to make a 4th “Godfather” in the late ‘90s, but he ultimately decided not to follow the death of Mario Puzo.
@ what do you think a good plot would entail at this stage?
Nah, I wanna see him skip to Godfather 7
None of this would have happened if he got Carmine Lupertazzi Jr. and Christopher Moltisanti to produce and write his movies for him.
Godfather 4 - The Multiverse
Peter Greenaway already did the conduct-a-film-as-live thing.

😂
I thought Megalopolis was wild as fuck.
Any good at all?

that animal Borko, I can't even say his name, still going that ^%$#(^@?
This is what happens when ego trumps reality.
His new film ideas sound like bombs waiting to go off.
One day, the whole Victor Salva matter will obliterate Francis Ford Coppola‘s reputation.

These movies will not get made
Coppola never learns.....
Okay 🙄
His brain is rotting.
National subsides = corporate welfare
Calling Megalopolis a "comeback" is insane work.
After Mega-flopolis I’d be okay with Coppola retiring for good .
Coppola has gone brain dead… He hasn’t made even a decent movie in decades. Why would you think his next one’s going to be any good?
He hasn’t made a great movie since I’ve been alive I’m 34 years old he needs to retire
I'll take 2 new movies for one Megalopolis.📼📼=💩
Don’t make another one. Megalopolis was trash.

Megalopolis was SOOOOO bad, I ended up fast forwarding to the flashy scenes and was thankful when it was over.
