Wow
What a beautiful train!!!!
Nice mustang !!!
Thanks 🙏
Those curves are fun to maneuver. I a out lost my gut traveling on a bus through the mom gains for a New Golly (rapids trip). My first car was a restored 1968 Mustang...UK BLUE. :-)
👍
Sad story, enjoyed
Thank you!
What a shame n waste. Sounded like some fun when it was running. My daddy was a clerk for the B&O and Chessie System when I was a little girl for 35 years.... Got to ride on a Caboose.
Yeah, you can’t have nothing these days because of worthless vandals
Except for the epileptic fit the sped up ride gave me it’s a cool video👍
👍🏼
Ridin on that New River Train, Ridin on that New River Train. That same ole Train that brought me here is soon gona carry me away.
❤️
Nice mix up on the music! Thanks for the great information you share.
Thank you Jeanne!
Saw the title, now I got the song stuck in my head. Thanks a lot.
😂
Love this story.
Some history I found regarding the song:
The New River Train is a beautiful Blue Grass Song written back in 1923(+ -) by a Family in Virginia.
The original "New River Train" song was claimed by the Ward family of Galax as part of their repertoire as early as 1895. The song was believed to refer to the train that ran on the New River Line in 1883 as part of the Norfolk and Western system serving the town of Fries until 1985.
It was also made popular on the old Andy Griffith Show. Rafe Hollister (Jack Prince) - New River Train - The Singing Farmer - With Andy Griffith, Guitar.
Thanks for what you do for us folks.
Thanks for sharing that information! very cool
I have never heard about this train.
It’s a cool train that sadly will never run again

Hey storyteller glad to see you’re stories are still being told
Thank you my friend
I like this video. Great history lesson on how quickly things can and do change. Beautiful train, sad ending.
Indeed my friend, indeed. Thanks for watching
The train was really neat, what a sad waste.
I have a sweet spot for Trains.
Ya have to use Security or *"Adolescents will get in and behave like Adolescents".*
AmTrak has a stop in my town, and our Depot is back in action. Newbern, TN, a convient hub between Chicago and New Orleans.
❤ Best Wishes for the return of the little Train and the excitement they offer for folks of all ages.
Indeed- a sad story
Seeing that concrete barrier with the 116 info on it triggered flashbacks for me. The first and ONLY time I traveled that road was in a day cab freightliner pulling a 48' trailer. One of the longest days of my life. My seat had bite marks in it.
and toes hanging out the radiator
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller yessir. And around every corner, I was able to check my own brake lights! I hadn't been running that area long and my GPS turned out to be a bold faced liar. Went in by Brushy. I was NEVER so glad to see briceville and lake city in my life.
You said it perfect walking down to the train, It was parked not abandoned. Scotty and Jimmy the owners are very good people...
yes sir, they are
That's to bad that it's been vandalized over the years. Things like this should be protected and on display somewhere for people to enjoy. Nice video. Thanks.
Indeed- folks will tear up anything
Very interesting, never knew about this.
Yes Sir!
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller A vid I found! So cool m.th-cam.com/video/ccce1X3TZtU/w-d-xo.html
Scotty said one of those car's came from New York and one from Iowa.
What Tennessee Abandoned Place would you like to see us film next?
Anywhere in east TN
Where is this location at Ive been wanting to go there one day
I don’t know if it’s open to the public, but the Tennessee State Prison is super cool. never been but it’s where Green Mile was filmed, and is apparently haunted
@@jonathanbonamarte3471 ill look into it!
@@kevinjones3224 on highway 116. If you go thru Petros, just pass brushy mountain prison and follow the road until you get to the coal mine facility in the video. follow the path behind it about .3 mile.
It was cool to see but kinda sad as well
Yes, I felt the same
I am a big fan of trains and pianos!
Love trains, and playing the piano- just wish I was better, but that whole practicing thing….

It’s a shame a bunch of scumbags go in and ruin a great thing to visit. Maybe they will get what’s coming to them one day soon. They should be locked up and the key throwed away in my opinion.
👍
Went there was cool but really sad in my opinion
I agree with you, it’s blocked off now, but the damage is done
that was real interesting
Thank you, please subscribe for more east TN lost history
Great video
Thanks friend
I just watched a few videos on this train when it was running. It was all in great condition and the cars looked like they had been just repainted. It’s hard to believe it sits here rotting away,
Indeed- tourists and methheads have torn it apart
water so clean
haha!
wha?
Whoever did the camera did a good job!
Keeps getting better!
ah yes very good indeed 🧐🧐
thanks!
Great video! 👍
Thank you Vanessa :)
Very interesting JD!
Thank you :)
I was just at the train 30 min ago
Cool 😎
If I'm ever stopped by law enforcement after doing a burnout, I'm gonna' use your explanation
It works!
“To remove dirt from our tires”
Is the best “excuse” I’ve ever heard for doing a Burnout 🤪🤪🤪
I love that you caught that joke. 😂 thanks for watching my friend
I would LOVE to do this on weekends!!! What a great place to take family portraits !
thanks for sharing
I’ve drove that mountain in a bread truck many time I went in from petros to take bread to the Rosedale school in new river.I made a lot of riders sick around those curves.
You got that right, lots of switchbacks
Bro, I need 2 kno who was poundin on those drums in the background music when u were walkin thru the rail car!!
That’s a song I wrote called the call of neptyos
What a shame the train got destroyed
cant have nothing these days...
People are pathetic, can’t keep anything nice. No respect.
Exactly
Vandals suck. Nice video.
I know, people are are cancer. Thanks for watching!
JD, please do Not use that fast flashing mode as you have on this videos opening as those with epilepsy can have a sezure because of it such as one of my grandsons! Thank you for changing it. Blessings,. Brook🧑🌾🍏🍎
This video is from a few years ago
The local meth heads stole all the stuff off the train. It is a shame. It is now blocked off at the coal washer where you can not get down to it from 116.
I know, its a total crime.
I know the owner. It was parked on a siding while he was trying to deal with an insurance issue, and in 1 week, it had been vandelized so he couldn't run anymore.
It aint ever moving now
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller he said it might get moved eventually, but idk.
@@ReadingAreaRailfan it would be cool
I know the owner to. he was my foster dad when I was in state custody. He's a good man He's the only one I called dad after my real dad Committed suicide in 97 love that man with all my heart
@@anthonycrandall4166 Scotty. He sent me tickets, brochures and a model of the train with a poster. He's a great man.
Cool video.
thank you sir!
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller You are very welcome.
You made this vid little scary like
That when the disaster struck or something it was cool
It sucked breaking my drone thou... in front of strangers watching it crash too... :(
Did you fix it or was it unfix able
@@jdogthebozo5879 I was able to fix it, which pretty much redeemed me in front of strangers. Because when it crashed, I broke in 9 pieces. The sound you heard in the video was the actual sound it made as it crashed. No one thought I could fix it. neither did I... but I did!
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller well you fixed a violin that broke in half and you’re really smart so good job
@@jdogthebozo5879 thanks!
There is a wall behind the train?
I worked on the air-conditioning for the cars in 2007 and priced putting in new air-conditioning. The engineer lives in Clinton. There was a dispute over tbe cars they had purchased them and were supposed to make payments. The guy they bought them from wanted all his money up front. It was a sad story
Dang
Would the owner be able just sell it if someone wanted to buy it to run it
maybe...
Petros...pronounced "Pee-Tross" short "o"
I know- you got me, I've only been here for 9 years. Mississippi before that, so ...
Lol I thought the same thing.. but can’t blame the man. English is crazy. Petros. Pet-trows, Pee-tras, Pree-tros… all the same. Like Wartburg Lol Ut was great video though. I’m from the area and never knew about the train! I can’t believe the locals didnt correct you on the pronunciation. Lol They get plum offended !! 😂😉
@@shanontreadway2522 Yeah, all the towns round here are pronounced so an outsider is easily spotted.
Latin not English. Pet ross. Petraglyph. You don't say Pee tra glyph. Maybe in America. Lol
What a sad end to a grand old train. Shame that some people ain’t got no rasin.
Exactly
Maybe somebody will cosmetically restore it and even though it's blocked off maybe there's another way to get to it
Maybe so
Ride 116 on a bus in the dark 😂 Good times.
I bet!
What a-shame it never makes sense to me why people like to destroy
Exactly
According to TH-cam you can fix plastic with baking soda and super glue. Or ash and super glue.
Right on topic
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller I once read that there are many more ways to break plastic than other materials. They weren't wrong. Dirt bike plastics are strong and flexible. I guess that's no good for drones. Lol
not crazy about the music.
Thanks for that feedback
You shouldn't take drones and sports cars into these precious preserved places. Its disrespectful and practically sacrilegious.
Wow
