@@Makeyourselfbig Well, I think He might've meant fossilized microbial life which actually could be there if life existed when Mars had water still. Mars is too small, it was doomed from the start. The real mystery is Venus, that could have been a planet b for us. It's so strange that a planet similar to earth became such an hellscape. I'm not an expert but the weird thing about Venus is that It's stuck in retrograde motion for some reason, a day lasts around 240 earth days, that might have something to do with Venus hellish surface conditions, it's like the force exerted on the planet by the retrograde motion have something to do with the super high atmospheric pressure and temperatures on the planet.
What an incredibly beautiful planet. Even though it's long considered a dead world but it's still full of wonder and beauty. I can imagine Ray Bradbury's short story from The Martian Chronicles: Mars Is Heaven thing happening on the wide flat rock strewn surface.
It's so easy to imagine hiking across this terrain. Even the necessary protective gear, oxygen tank, etc, would be lighter than on Earth - and therefore more manageable.
Why is it that the camera operators never focus on the moons of Mars? Moon sets, moon rises, sunsets or sunrises - lack of interest, what's up with that?
They've taken a few passages of Phobos over the Sun. They are small, but very low in orbit, so look quite large - about 1/3rd the angular diameter of the Moon in our sky. If you took a telephoto shot of Phobos rising over the horizon it would look great.

It's unimaginable with all that terrain, all that expanse, all that existence, and not one single solitary breath of biological life. Absolutely void of all life, of any form, of any kind. We are it folks...think about that.
I would like to know what the ISO setting is for the cameras. On Earth it could be set at 100 for a good exposure on a sunny day. If the cameras on Mars were set at 1000 ISO, for example, it would tell me how much dimmer the sunlight is there.
Beautiful images! But you should avoid mixing Imperial and metric units. For instance, at 14:30, when describing the black sand dune, you say the large ripples are 3 metres apart (which is 10 feet), and the sand dune is 15 to 20 feet tall (which is about 5 to 6 metres).
Actually no. Because there is so little atmosphere on Mars, water cannot exist on the surface, which is why they must scrape several centimeters of regalith to search the layers beneath. They have already seen a thin layer of ice crystals under the surface of Mars, but it sublimated the instant the sun hit spot. (Sublimation is the process of a substance that goes from a solid into a gas without first turning into a liquid at its melting point. This is what happens to water in the hyper-thin atmosphere of Mars)
Thanks to NASA, I'm delighted to say I've seen what's on Mars, even if it's just 1%. It's simply fantastic to see those rocks, that sand, those valleys-it's incredible.
A wonderful video. What a barren place. Could you imagine the race for colonisation if it did have both water & an oxygen atmosphere . & iron ore & oil & rare metals & minerals for silicon chips.

@@ccculture9681 I don’t see how! Unlike earth and Venus, the gravity is too weak to hold a dense enough atmosphere. It has no magnetosphere so the surface and atmosphere is heavily bombed by radioactive and charged particles. Surface water is another big problem because surface water on Mars behaves like dry ice does on Earth. As I see it, humans could only live safely underground ( maybe 1/4 km deep) if any cave structures are present. As long as you can mine (solid )water, and have a closed system to hold oxygen/ nitrogen. Light can be artificially produced, then maybe it can be done on a small scale. IMO, we can terraform Venus far easier, if we could place enough large mirrors in orbit around the equator to deflect at least 1/3 of sunlight to reduce surface temperature, and abate the greenhouse effect. The size and gravity are very similar to earth, so it could hold an atmosphere. This would likely take a 1/2 million years to accomplish ( if at all possible). The key is to reduce the surface temperatures close to that of earth!… as it was explained to me.
It’s interesting to see rock formations that probably don’t exist anywhere on earth due to earth’s higher gravity. Some of the martian rock formations look like they would fall apart in earth’s gravity. Other than these fragile formations, it looks a lot like a desert on earth.
Such a cold, hostile, lifeless world. Yet to those who would journey there to spend the rest of their lives in an attempt to colonize Mars, I salute you.
