Marlene's voice is simply mesmerizing! no wonder we keep falling in love with her over and over again! I never knew Marlene had such a sense of humor either, she always semed so distant with such a other wordly appeal. And Tallulah knew just how to bring her down to earth, the two I am told were such close friends, it shows through here.
What a treat it is that we get to hear these two legends performing together! Sadly, we have no one like these two today... It is a shame, though, that this "clip" ends before it's over... What follows is hilarious... and available on the internet.. Check it out!
Thank you so much for posting this! I had heard about this broadcast, but I never knew that i would ever be able to actually hear it... You are the BEST to do this for all of us!
Marlene Dietrich was age 50 when this was done. Tallulah was 49. She was a year younger than Marlene Dietrich, but age would never show for either of them for many years yet. Two "It" Girls who never lost "it."
Radio Archives out of Spokane, Washington has restored in crystal clarity the first 27 shows (primarily the first season) and they are available in a 5 CD set with direct downloads also available. Radio Archives has also restored a few others from the second season which are available in exceptional sound and tonal quality in their Archives Treasures series. "The Big Show" ran on NBC radio from 1950 until 1952 comprising a total of 57, 90 minute radio shows, probably the longest (time-wise) program ever to run in radio history during the Golden Era prior to the advent of television. Most radio shows were 30 minutes in length and a few ran for 60 minutes in length but "The Big Show" ran a full 90 minutes per episode. "The Big Show" was also the most expensive show ever to air on radio and possibly television.
during some movieproject Marlene was switched by Talullah. They had the same size, so they asked Tallulah if it was ok if she wore Marlenes wardrobe. And yes, Tallulah did say: "Of course not. I always wanted to get into Marlenes pants...." Those were the days....
@@bette1908 you just earned a subscriber! 🤣😁. Also I think it's quite annoying when the children of these celebrities act like they have a right to mess their parents' legacy, like Joan Crawford's daughter. In reality the children probably didn't know Everything about their parents,i don't think anyone really does
These two vintage broads seem to resemble each other somewhat. They both equally are sophisticated in qualities and manner and make powerful and long lasting impressions on first encounter, they both sound just about alike in voice when talking (as if they were twin sisters, like as if you can get away with introducing the two on your own variety show as "We have as our exceptionally special guests on here today, the fabulously devine Tellulah Dietrich and the marvelously enchanting charming Marlene Bankhead" ha ha ha!, well at least on radio), then again, although, from what very little I know of them hitherto, tallulah seems more of a clown and whimsical compared to the "darker" Dietrich, being distinctly traditionally germanic and thus more austere and ponderously dramatic - therefore having a heavier, "no nonsense allowed", and more intimidating persona. Well, that's my two cents for today. And don't they just make a couple of bright new pretty pennies staight off the mint of wayback together on here? That is, Tallulah and Marlene?
Awesome darling. They are so not flirting, they were really friends, with no strings. If they were lovers? they would have had no fun...Think of your own relationships, and better friends than most, to memorize, or read this monologue?! :) This was so beautiful to listen too! Thanks for the upload.....Wishing to be at the time again....
tallulah's voice cracks me up. i could listen to her all day.

Two iconic voices meeting on radio...perfect!
My God how I would love to have lived back then. What legends. What women. What class.
A simpler time but in some ways more difficult and in some ways not. At least if you did have a job, one salary could easily provide for a family.
@@kfl611 Adorable, you don't understand the era at all.
Marlene's laugh is so funny-its a purr. Tallulah is much louder.
A magical glimpse into a larger than life personalities, doesn’t get better, bravo for posting. 👏
