I prefer it this way. He isn’t dead, or forced out in disgrace. He’s still working with Nintendo, and still spreading the love for this franchise that means so much to all of us. I agree that it won’t be the same without him, though. He’s created the most recognizable voice in gaming, and whoever comes after him will have some giant shoes to fill.

I was thinking something similar. This looks like the most effort Nintendo has put into a side scrolling Mario game since the SNES. The animations caught me more off guard than anything: not just canned and reused assets anymore. And actual spoken dialog? I'm thinking that's a first for a side scrolling Mario, aside from his level clear lines like "Oh yeah! Mario time!".
It's great to see them putting forth so much effort on a series that they've been content to settle into a comfortable pattern on.

A little confused why they didn't include Rosalina too, But happy to see both Peach and Daisy playable, besides the Mario Makers this will be one of the few Mario games I'll day one.

The art style reminds me of the old school concept art from back in the day. I love how cartoony the game looks and how expressive all the characters are. It's gonna be a real treat. Also finally they're acknowledging Daisy in a mainline Mario game I'm so happy.

@@andytheawesome7592Yeah, and the way he holds out his arms while running and jumping reminds me of Super Mario World from the SNES. Also, the proportions of Mario and the others remind me of older art in general, like Super Mario RPG's cover (even though I never played that game myself).
I think it looks like the claymation Mario from the first and last issues of Nintendo Power.
honestly the fact no one really noticed that mario had a new VA for the last 2 moths since this trailer came out makes me feel like they prolly picked a decent replacement VA lol

They had already shown us Mario's new voice, and barely anyone noticed it, this is so surreal!
Now that they're starting to bring back 2D Mario games I hope they take a similar route with Donkey Kong. It's been 9 years with absolutely nothing aside from the Switch port. I used to play NSMB Wii with my dad and brothers, and Tropical Freeze with my dad when I was like 8 and it's been what feels like forever since we've had the opportunity to play a new co-op platformer. Really looking forward to this game and hoping for a much anticipated installment for Donkey Kong Country 6.
Donkey Kong is undoubtedly the best platformer to come out of nintendo. Ive spent hours upon hours playing Country returns and Tropical Freeze.

@@sandiego2380Unless you count Mario Maker there hasn't been a new 2d Mario game since New Super Luigi U came out 10 years ago, and there's been 2 3D Marios (3d World and Odyssey) released since then, plus Bowsers Fury.

The thumbnail is one of the most funniest things I've ever seen in my life.
As a forty year old who grew up in the 2d era, this really brings back nostalgia and shows how cool 2d side scrollers could have evolved if 3d hadn't taken over. All that to say: this looks dope and my 7yr old is going to wonder why his switch is missing.
With the knowledge that Charles has retired from voicing the Mario characters, it now makes sense why the voice is a tiny bit of. But at the same time, it's still close enough to be perfectly reasonable. Maybe it's just cause I've grown up with the major shifts in voice that Sonic has gotten.
I'm 40 and Nintendo still manages to get me excited by a Mario game!
I am 50 and I cant wait to play it.

Early 40s here and cannot wait to get this for my brothers birthday, we both fought over every Mario game, our parents hated it, but we both loved the original NES and Mario Bros so much.

I'm glad someone else sees it! There are definitely some throwbacks to the Yoshi series. The more relaxed, more artsy colorful look, the group running from a giant boulder, the torpedoes with rainbow smoke coming down between a group of different colored playable Yoshis. Even the way the levels have multiple parts for each Wonder Seed is reminiscent of Crafted World. Plus, Crafted World also uses layers in their levels.
Well now we know Charles Martinet didn’t voice this Mario and he stills sounds like Mario, so good job on the replacement.
Now… Luigi better still sound like Luigi.

This Mario game is a victory lap. You can tell that they just had fun making a fun game for fans. The Switch has put Nintendo back on top and they have consistently released blockbuster fun games. Cheers, Nintendo! You've earned the top spot!

After hearing the news that Charles Martinet is retiring as a voice actor, meaning he will no longer be voicing Mario or Luigi in the foreseeable future.
They also said Super Mario Wonder is not Charles voicing them. Hearing it again, it doesn’t sound like Charles! But I really hope this new guy can continue on his legacy as the voice of Mario, same goes to whoever is voicing Luigi.

okay i know a lot of people are tired of the “bahs and dahs” in the newer Mario soundtracks but GODDDD the music in the first part of this trailer is so good man. the guy has a great voice and having the vocals be the main melody instead of just supporting was a good choice imo

After hearing the news of Charles retirement I now hear a little bit of a difference with the new mario voice, it’s still a really good one tho, definitely fooled me and many others believing it was Charles

This game actually is very generous to the player. The one difference I see is that there isn't a time bar and actually gives the player a lot of time to explore the level.
The one difference is the Voice of Mario.

The movie was a good passing of the torch for Charles he had a great career as everyone's favorite Italian American plumber from Brooklyn New York he will be missed. Thank you Charles Martinet for making mine and many others childhoods great for over 3 decades of amazing adventures from Super Mario 64 to The Super Mario Bros Movie you showed us a world where we are born to play thank for all you've done in the famous words of the plumber himself "Thank you so much YAHOO".

Weirdly both taking similar new approaches to their series. More expressive animations, emphasis on multiplayer, unique levels and new outside of the box powerups.

-All games MUST be 3D even if it means destroying the entire franchise. (PS1/N64/Saturn era)
-Any game thats old school must be marketed as such.
No, Nintendo and especially Sega finally get it, just shut up and make a great game, old school or new school, 2D or 3D, nobody cares, just make a great NEW game and keep your people fed and empowered as gamers.

You can tell the difference in Mario's voice, but it's not a huge difference.
Yeah, the change isn't big enough to warrant any complaints. Whoever they got to do the voice is good.
I kinda hear the mickey mouse voice some people are pointing out in certain bits, but overall it's pretty good and sounds like a fresh voice when you realize it's not Charles. And if they keep the same voice actor, it'll only get better with time

U were so right. I hadn't seen this trailer before the announcement so idk if I would have caught it or not. But the new voice doesn't have the same energy or subtle tonal shifts and sounds a bit more like Mickey mouse with some spice. Maybe that's the direction Nintendo wants idk.

Not gonna lie, I've never really cared about the 2D sidescrolling Super Mario Bros games, as I always thought that they were the exact same games, but with slightly better graphics and a new power up. 2:28 But the moment I saw Elephant Mario, it caught my interest.

They classic NES/SNES games are absolute masterclasses in mechanical execution and level design. The NSMB games were a little bland for my tastes, but I have not played new super mario bros u which is supposed to be very nicely made.

My friend compares this to Normal Mario Bros, but with that flower at 0:45 , I first thought of this Mario flash game were you pick up this purple mushroom, then everything goes all colorful while “Yello - Oh Yeah” plays. Anyone know what that one is?
