I was thinking something similar. This looks like the most effort Nintendo has put into a side scrolling Mario game since the SNES. The animations caught me more off guard than anything: not just canned and reused assets anymore. And actual spoken dialog? I'm thinking that's a first for a side scrolling Mario, aside from his level clear lines like "Oh yeah! Mario time!". It's great to see them putting forth so much effort on a series that they've been content to settle into a comfortable pattern on.

The art style reminds me of the old school concept art from back in the day. I love how cartoony the game looks and how expressive all the characters are. It's gonna be a real treat. Also finally they're acknowledging Daisy in a mainline Mario game I'm so happy.

I prefer it this way. He isn’t dead, or forced out in disgrace. He’s still working with Nintendo, and still spreading the love for this franchise that means so much to all of us. I agree that it won’t be the same without him, though. He’s created the most recognizable voice in gaming, and whoever comes after him will have some giant shoes to fill.

A little confused why they didn't include Rosalina too, But happy to see both Peach and Daisy playable, besides the Mario Makers this will be one of the few Mario games I'll day one.
Now that they're starting to bring back 2D Mario games I hope they take a similar route with Donkey Kong. It's been 9 years with absolutely nothing aside from the Switch port. I used to play NSMB Wii with my dad and brothers, and Tropical Freeze with my dad when I was like 8 and it's been what feels like forever since we've had the opportunity to play a new co-op platformer. Really looking forward to this game and hoping for a much anticipated installment for Donkey Kong Country 6.

This Mario game is a victory lap. You can tell that they just had fun making a fun game for fans. The Switch has put Nintendo back on top and they have consistently released blockbuster fun games. Cheers, Nintendo! You've earned the top spot!
I'm glad someone else sees it! There are definitely some throwbacks to the Yoshi series. The more relaxed, more artsy colorful look, the group running from a giant boulder, the torpedoes with rainbow smoke coming down between a group of different colored playable Yoshis. Even the way the levels have multiple parts for each Wonder Seed is reminiscent of Crafted World. Plus, Crafted World also uses layers in their levels.
Early 40s here and cannot wait to get this for my brothers birthday, we both fought over every Mario game, our parents hated it, but we both loved the original NES and Mario Bros so much.
With the knowledge that Charles has retired from voicing the Mario characters, it now makes sense why the voice is a tiny bit of. But at the same time, it's still close enough to be perfectly reasonable. Maybe it's just cause I've grown up with the major shifts in voice that Sonic has gotten.
After hearing the news that Charles Martinet is retiring as a voice actor, meaning he will no longer be voicing Mario or Luigi in the foreseeable future. They also said Super Mario Wonder is not Charles voicing them. Hearing it again, it doesn’t sound like Charles! But I really hope this new guy can continue on his legacy as the voice of Mario, same goes to whoever is voicing Luigi.
There will be a trend that will have these kinds of art aspects and elements so....... more awesome games for us? But for the industries, the competitions are big.

okay i know a lot of people are tired of the “bahs and dahs” in the newer Mario soundtracks but GODDDD the music in the first part of this trailer is so good man. the guy has a great voice and having the vocals be the main melody instead of just supporting was a good choice imo
Not gonna lie, I've never really cared about the 2D sidescrolling Super Mario Bros games, as I always thought that they were the exact same games, but with slightly better graphics and a new power up. 2:28 But the moment I saw Elephant Mario, it caught my interest.
They classic NES/SNES games are absolute masterclasses in mechanical execution and level design. The NSMB games were a little bland for my tastes, but I have not played new super mario bros u which is supposed to be very nicely made.

The most jarring thing about this is not that mario turned into an elephant, but the fact that the flower saying "well then" sounds like stewie griffin!
I kinda hear the mickey mouse voice some people are pointing out in certain bits, but overall it's pretty good and sounds like a fresh voice when you realize it's not Charles. And if they keep the same voice actor, it'll only get better with time

U were so right. I hadn't seen this trailer before the announcement so idk if I would have caught it or not. But the new voice doesn't have the same energy or subtle tonal shifts and sounds a bit more like Mickey mouse with some spice. Maybe that's the direction Nintendo wants idk.

U were so right. I hadn't seen this trailer before the announcement so idk if I would have caught it or not. But the new voice doesn't have the same energy or subtle tonal shifts and sounds a bit more like Mickey mouse with some spice. Maybe that's the direction Nintendo wants idk.
