@antadefector I believe you are talking about a Tig finger. I mostly use it for Tig and sometimes mig, and sometimes even a cutting torch. But with this Spool gun welding, there is a lot of reflective heat on the knuckles too

@KEF791 thanks Keith, I was having some gas shielding issues and soot, and mixing helium seemed to make it worse So I just used straight argon. Maybe part 2 will include helium mix.

@SmokinPHorses Only about 200 F..its hard to get more than 200 f on aluminum this thick. Also, Too much preheat and you might lose temper. In part 2 I will try to include preheat info...coming soon.

I'm impressed with that hobart machine on that thick material. Of course it takes a skilled weldor to make it work. Nice job.
We're lucky to have a build pro table too. We keep using it more and more its great.

@TIGCANADA Brass will work but copper is best. Also dont use brass with stainless. Brass contains Zinc and stainless hates that

Curious why there are no aluminum welding tables? Excluding the cost the weight savings would be awesome AL has awesome conductivity great durability and no rust!

This was just fantastic, thankyou so much for making this video. Really did learn alot from this, the footage makes things so much easier to grasp.

First, thank You for nice videos. I have a wish to learn MIG and TIG welding but still saving for tools. I have watched most of your videos, but in this one You are using a glove instead of that nice fire resistant cloth that You put on your fingers, is that because You had put your forearm on workpiece and finger is small or something else (sorry for bad English).
Thank You once again for nice videos of very, very fine nice welding...
    Best regards Goran, Serbia.

This may not be the problem with the helium and it has only happened to me one time in my career, I recieved a contaminated bottle of helium, a clean test plate doing a tig weld is a good check, a coat of yellowness will appear, floating to the surface of the bead. This was back when local suppliers had machines set up in the store, I confremed it there, as well. pain in the butt to change out bottles in the mid job...

Jody, that was an eleven out of ten video, slamming, the project was a great well thought out piece of tooling and the Pro Table, hands down, is a great tool in itself to locate the components, assemble and hold for the welding. Well orchestrated demo!
Was the gas mixture, fifty fifty, like you had mentioned you were going to use?
    Cheers, Keith

Enjoyed watching all that Aluminium go together, great tip with the copper. I had no idea that copper just lets the aluminium build up like that. Does it need any wax? or any prep work for it not to fuse?

@Andy205ro The 200dx could probably do it with a good preheat and a water cooler tig set up. I ran mine( air cooled) for a couple years before I got the 350 dynasty, and it gets hot!

Loving the videos on MIG aluminum with the spoolgun. Have you ever had the chance to do TIG copper welding, and could you possibly do a video on it?

using copper bars is good for steel and stainless aswell (or aluminum blocks) , especially when you need to weld 2 sheets of steel together without having to worry about burning it away at the end of the corners, just put a piece of copper in the corner and leave a nice little drop of adding material, or a quick tack with Mig.
only copper for aluminium though :P
love this channel as an T.i.g aluminum welder (steel and stainless aswell), but i was wondering if you can show some Brass welding. can hardly find any good video's on it.
would like to have some knowledge about it instead of learning it from scratch with trials and errors ;)

Jody, you mentioned maybe using a pre-heat but didn't see it used. If you had, what range temperature would you be shooting for with aluminum? Understood that the weld progression provides pre-heat but what if the first weld had to be spot on?

What kind of camera do you use to shoot the images of your welds in close up? :)

@ColtDeltaElite10mm I know how hard it is to find good instructional videos on welding but check out " khawajaarslanahmed ". Yes that is someones channel. I'm not saying that there's any SMAW videos on aluminum but they are helpful.
