The Huo-Long Heater instant kills every class (but demoknight) with its flames. Side note: I know this happens in 100x but not sure if it happens in 10x.
The Your Eternal Reward would work pretty well with the Dead Ringer or Cloak and Dagger. It would be perfect for chainstabbing a whole team or taking care of a massive sentry nest.
Hoooonestly, x10 is actually kind of tame. Sure, I've played x10 almost exclusively, but it's still... Tame compared to uh... X100 and up. X100 and up is when the balance goes out the window. It also helps that the STOCK weapons got buffed as well in x10.
Kunai Spy: Stands in the middle of the map Sniper: Shoots the hundreds of bullets you get from your stock machine gun Sniper with crits Kunai Spy: "That tickled"
Going by this list the worst combo is L'Etranger, RTR, Spycycle, and C&D. I feel it has a single really pointless strategy with it though, being that you can stay invisible forever, without needing to worry about being exposed by fire at any point. You can turn up anywhere on the map at any time completely unnoticed, just to place an excessively slow sapper on an unguarded mini-sentry, just to disappear again. The downside is that you deal basically no damage, having to rely on backstabs to get any kills, which is unlikely as you probably don't even have a knife. It's the highest cloak loadout and the lowest damage loadout at the same time. Obviously it would make more sense to change the L'Etranger out for something else as the double cloak size is so unlikely to actually help often enough to be worth it, but I still think this would be a funny meme strat. Somewhat tempted to give it a shot tbh
18:54 correction, the hou long heater, dalakos bar & eviction notice is a hard counter toa kunia, 400 afterburn damage a second with strip them of that overheal in a sinch.
18:29 you can also backstab and camp them in their spawn with the stock invis watch, make them laugh (most effective against dead ringer users) and burn them with the huo, light them on fire and two shot them with the sun on a stick etc
if you ever do x100 for the soldier, I found this interesting thing where if you use the direct hit and the gunboats, it will overheal you whenever you use it. you can actually survive falling off the cliff at Hightower because that deals 10,000 damage and you can go over that with this gimmick
Fun fact: in x100 a kunai spy has so much health (21,000) that he can actually survive falling in the pit and can hang out at the bottom with 10,000 to spare
I remember the Kunai in x10 used to be even more ridiculous. I don’t know if it was a math error, but it used to give you 5,000-9,000 hp on stab, but it actually was probably the least used knife at the time because the watches weren’t x10 yet and it was way back when the dead ringer was so absurd that the kunai’s health was just unnecessary when paired with the ringer’s damage resistance. It took forever to be nerfed to the 2100 hp version we know and love, but I suspect the change had to do with many servers opting for running non-arena maps, meaning the risk was so much lower than forcing your team to be down a player for the rest of the round if you missed your stab.
You know, if they also x10'd the Taunt Kills the Kunai would still be possible to beat if the Spy using it is careless (or if a Heavy with the Holiday Punch stuns 'em and gives 'em a 5,000-damage Pootis Pow).
Another decent way to deal with a x10 Kunai Spy: Holiday Punch + Tomislav Punch the spy once with the Holiday Punch, then just spam left-click at them with the tomislav
The RTR is best used as a "I like to watch the world burn" weapon. Plus it denies Gunslinger engis a mini-sentry for a few extra seconds, so there's that.
Kunai has a LOT of soft counters, but many of them require two players to be 100% foolproof. If the pyro is running stock cloak, then you will almost always need a scorch pyro (or any flamethrower) on the team to keep them perma-lit so you can't lose them. From there you can: airblast the spy into a corner and have a teammate direct hit them 4 times (with damage this is usually enough to outright kill the spy), make a large scottish resistance trap in a popular travel location, use direct hit in general (airblast/fire is not necessary but makes this counter significantly stronger), play as default spy with l'etranger to camp an ammo box near whatever location the kunai spy may use to get health/ammo/mobility/stabs and machine knife them to death. You can play huo long heater/natascha and make their life hell, airblast them into a deathtrap, hit them with a splendid screen shield bash a few times (this does an insane amount of damage btw, it used to be WAY more effective with the spammable persian persuader). Medic syringe gun is quite effective in a drawn out 1v1, though if the spy has a gun equipped that he can kill you with, it is unlikely you will survive long enough to kill him without assistance. There are more that I can't think of, these are just the obvious ones. Kunai is OP, but it's not without its list of counters.
Less of a 'you're wrong, this would be better' and more of a 'I like both ways, but this more', it seems more reasonable to put each weapon in each tier relative to the others ONLY of its category, so like pistols would only consider other meta pistols when being placed in meta, and you can just have an arbitrary order for what categories are ahead of or behind others to keep them neat and tidy. For example, you could go by the number keys you'd press to equip them(by default). So, all the pistols would be on the far left, all the sappers would be in the middle, and all the knives would be on the right.
The Red Tape would be more like Not Great but Not Terrible tier, for the reason that it is a building disabler. Since the Red Tape has doubled the sap time, it will out last the engineer's respawn time & the fact that they cannot destroy nor build a new one during that time, allows for fun trolly camping of nest. In 10x mode, the sap time becomes x20.
x100 servers meta and role (very likely will apply to x10 for every class except heavy) Scout: Shortstop, Winger, Atomizer, role is to take control of the skies and whatever tower needs to be climbed. Soldier: Beggar's Bazooka/Direct Miss, Gunboats, Equalizer, role is just to exterminate snipers and be a tankier, but slower and less powerful heavy Pyro: Dragon's Fury/Stock, Stock, Back Scratcher/Powerjack, role is to be there Demo: Booties, Splendid Screen, Persian Persuader, role is to be a faster, but more delicate and less powerful heavy Heavy: Tomislav/Huo Long Heater, Dalokohs Bar, G.R.U., role is just to be an unstoppable juggernaut that deletes everything on sight Engie and Medic are hopeless in x100 Sniper: Stock/Machina, Danger Shield, any machete, role is to take down tomislav heavies (huolongs are a demo's kill) Spy: Enforcer/Letranger/Ambassador, Kunai, Cloak and Dagger/Deadringer, role is displayed in vid
i think that the dead ringer would be better for a melee main spy due to the speed boost and the ability to trick-stab; some spies just really don't want to use guns, and prefer to rely specifically on stabbing. so the speed boost would make it much easier to get behind people and avoid attacks
Spy in x10 meta: -Kunai -Dead ringer -Ambassador NOTHING ELSE! You get scout's speed with the dead ringer, no fall damage even at one hp with the kunai (YES NO FALL DAMAGE, ok maybe 1 at the top of the tower) and you can sniper people from very far way with the ambassador. If you can hit every headshot with the ambassador, it clearly becomes the best revolver. BTW you can bypass the cooldown of the ambassador by quick pressing m2 two times in a row with your dead ringer ready. 20:47 THERE is something wrong with it lol! You can get the SAME benefits just by taking fall damages with the dead ringer and get the speed boost lol There's no reason to use that knife since the dead ringer exists lol
Worth noting the like you said the Stock Knife is really good against Kunai spies because that much health does nothing against a backstab. I’d consider it a hard counter for that reason due to the insane attack speed, and often times latency issues causes random jank backstabs.
I was close! I figured the real *Meat* and potatoes of Spy's x10 loadouts is the Kunai (obviously) paired with Dead Ringer and the Diamondback. Never realized how good the Ambassador was, but then again, plain ol' x10 is a bit of an antiquated game mode to me, so I probably have fallen a bit behind the times on it. Maybe I'll come back to it after seeing this video!
In x100 I use the red tape to troll engineers. It does have a stat It has the reverse effect but that's not important, I use the 100x slower damage to just flat out disable but not destroy the building... Say I telefrag the engie on top of higher tower,I can then sap the buildings to effectively lock the engie out of using his buildings, you can't self destruct the building while its being saped
The YER can actually be decent when paired with the C&D and L'tranger or whatever its called. The more cloak you get from the French gun can counteract the cloak drain, and the C7D's nearly instant cloak regen makes the disguising taking up cloak not that big of a deal.
I think what they should do to make the sapper and recorder extra trolly is to make the sapper health 10x bigger so engineer wrenches have a harder time beating them off. Either that or make the recorder's reverse-build time 10x faster, effectively deleting low-level buildings faster and disturbing the engineer's peace forever.
As someone who likely has more x100 time than normal TF2 time, the Kunai is even more overpowered. Since x10 already lowers it to 1 hp there isnt anywhere to go so essentially only the positive stat gets multiplied. Also amby is OP and DR is a never-kill machine
The conniver+amby+stock combo really is broken lmao. I've managed to actually look like a semi reliable spy with it even tho I'm shite. The best part of the kunai is that even if you suck at trickstabs like me, you can just run up to the enemy with 2000 hp and jump around and bash them until you get a backstab and refill your hp or they die to your knife. The amby straight up turns you into a budget sniper

You know, if they also x10'd the Taunt Kills the Kunai would still be possible to beat if the Spy using it is careless (or if a Heavy with the Holiday Punch stuns 'em and gives 'em a 5,000-damage Pootis Pow).
Another decent way to deal with a x10 Kunai Spy: Holiday Punch + Tomislav
Punch the spy once with the Holiday Punch, then just spam left-click at them with the tomislav
old comment but what about the huo long? wouldn't it shred them faster.
The RTR is best used as a "I like to watch the world burn" weapon. Plus it denies Gunslinger engis a mini-sentry for a few extra seconds, so there's that.
We need to have a highlander x10 tournament
Kunai is OP, but it's not without its list of counters.
we need more X10 tier lists please this is awesome
Straight up, I met someone with like, a 500 kill streak on a 10x server playing spy with kunai, dude was playing the entire day
tf2xwhatever is one of the most fun tf2 experiences I've had since the shadowban update
In 10x mode, the sap time becomes x20.
x100 servers meta and role (very likely will apply to x10 for every class except heavy)
Scout: Shortstop, Winger, Atomizer, role is to take control of the skies and whatever tower needs to be climbed.
Soldier: Beggar's Bazooka/Direct Miss, Gunboats, Equalizer, role is just to exterminate snipers and be a tankier, but slower and less powerful heavy
Pyro: Dragon's Fury/Stock, Stock, Back Scratcher/Powerjack, role is to be there
Demo: Booties, Splendid Screen, Persian Persuader, role is to be a faster, but more delicate and less powerful heavy
Heavy: Tomislav/Huo Long Heater, Dalokohs Bar, G.R.U., role is just to be an unstoppable juggernaut that deletes everything on sight
Engie and Medic are hopeless in x100
Sniper: Stock/Machina, Danger Shield, any machete, role is to take down tomislav heavies (huolongs are a demo's kill)
Spy: Enforcer/Letranger/Ambassador, Kunai, Cloak and Dagger/Deadringer, role is displayed in vid
an easy way to fix the red tape recorder would be to make it much slower, but at the same time give it 10 times the health
You dont need to backstab a person with big earner to get cloack and speed. You just need to kill them.
i think that the dead ringer would be better for a melee main spy due to the speed boost and the ability to trick-stab; some spies just really don't want to use guns, and prefer to rely specifically on stabbing. so the speed boost would make it much easier to get behind people and avoid attacks
I never played this mod, and I haven't played TF2 in years, but these are still fun to watch.
Just wanna say that stock minigun+dalokohs bar+eviction notice heavy is so powerful and I've regularly wiped servers and lived forever using it.
Spy in x10 meta:
-Kunai
-Dead ringer
-Ambassador
NOTHING ELSE!
You can get the SAME benefits just by taking fall damages with the dead ringer and get the speed boost lol
There's no reason to use that knife since the dead ringer exists lol
I'm late but I'm betting the Kunai is *The Meat* tier, or at least *Usually a good choice* tier
I’ll be honest, I’m pretty sure it’s the strongest weapon in all of TF2x10, so it would be weird for it not to be in the Meat tier.
"Scout's not very good."
The Winger: "and I took that personally."
This is great. Please continue this series
In x100 I use the red tape to troll engineers.
It does have a stat
It has the reverse effect but that's not important, I use the 100x slower damage to just flat out disable but not destroy the building...
"i think that depends on the map" there's more than one map to x10?
I think what they should do to make the sapper and recorder extra trolly is to make the sapper health 10x bigger so engineer wrenches have a harder time beating them off. Either that or make the recorder's reverse-build time 10x faster, effectively deleting low-level buildings faster and disturbing the engineer's peace forever.
So weird seeing someone treat this troll/joke/meme/ironic gamemode like it's a serious thing
Aka anything relating to tf2
Bro, you can't just like, describe how a weapon is situational and then put it in "not great but not terrible" or above.
I didn't even question "The Meat" lol
As someone who likely has more x100 time than normal TF2 time, the Kunai is even more overpowered. Since x10 already lowers it to 1 hp there isnt anywhere to go so essentially only the positive stat gets multiplied. Also amby is OP and DR is a never-kill machine
As a french person, hearing you say "l'étrange" instead of "l'étranger" hurts
Disguising as your own team along with the dead ringer is a great way to get by the spammy pyros who camp.
L'etranger means stranger in french. (i just speak french and also i now commited a crime.)
Go
Please just call it the meat in the future videos
I feel like the kunai might be beneficial with the dead ringer
Another thing about the kunai in this mode is that you don't take fall damage ever while using it.
I renamed my Clay da more “Gordon the express engine” and my splendid screen “the flying Scotsman” because of a round in x10
I feel like the reason that people view x10 is cause of the kunai with the dead ringer and to a slightly lesser extent is the stock cloak
