My 6 year old daughter just watched this with me as we did the cut on her shirt and said "Can we tell her?" I asked what she wanted to say "That this really worked for us. That's what she asked in the end mom." 😂👌🏽😊
THANK YOU for this!! Your instructions were easy to follow and my cut shirts turned out beautiful each time. The chapters were a game changer too. I had to come back to this tutorial and I could easily just go to the section I needed. Awesome!
This is what you call a classic video!! It is hard to believe you posted this 8 years ago!😮🤭 Whenever I’m about to cut up a t-shirt, I ALWAYS refer to this video! My t-shirts always come out perfect just like you said! Thank you so much!!☺️ Never take it down, never change it!😁
Perfect! The measurement, rounding down, leaving the back of the collar straight across, gentle stretching to create the "roll"...absolutely perfect. Thank you!
Perfect! Tried it and turned my t's into a more dressy fashion statement. Perfect amount of talking. I was able to cut while you were talking and that made the process easy and fast. Everything about this tutorial if FAB!
Literally just watched this then immediately cut up a t-shirt right after -- it turned out perfect! Loved the "stretching the cut up parts" part of the video, it really finishes the whole look. Thank you for this helpful video!
I don't know why anyone would down vote this when the tutorial is literally perfect. You did the hard work so we don't have to, and I, for one, really appreciate it! Thank you for sharing this with us!!
i wouldn't down vote this video, but she did the hard work so we don't have too? if u cut a shirt following the instructions u would be doing the same work. Plus, in the 80's it was just cut, stretch n go
Super easy-to-follow instructions! My first shirt came out perfect! I cut up about 10 other t-shirts I never wear because I'm not too fond of the shape. Thank you!!!
Just found this tutorial and it worked perfectly! I have an oversized t-shirt from a concert I went to with a friend. Such a fun memory, but I never wore the shirt before because it was so big and unflattering. Now, it’s so cute! Thank you for sharing 😊
I KNEW THERE WAS A TRICK!!! Only cut the front of the neck, leaving the back in tact; otherwise, the neck is WAY TOO BIG and you've ruined the shirt....Thanks !
Thanks for the great tutorial! Just a couple of notes after trying this a couple of times, cut the bottom 1" longer than the length of where you want it to end up, this will compensate for the 1" roll that happens when you stretch it out, you can always trim more length but you can never put it back! Also before you trim the collar, start by trimming the bottom of the T shirt first, this will allow you to assess how much the fabric will stretch, different fabric blends will stretch differently. If it stretches a lot then trim the collar much less than the tutorial states, you can always cut off more if needed. P.S. Another update, ONLY try this with CREW neck T's. Tried this with a scoop neck, and the collar didn't really roll and just became a bigger scoop, perhaps due to the curve of the cut?... Also fabric makes a big difference, tried this with a poly cotton blend and it didn't really roll or stretch, so would definitely stick to 100% cotton if you want the fabric to curl, unless you like the laser cut look, in which case a blended fabric will do the job.
For one of my daughter's dance classes they need their tshirt cut and I just tried your method on one of her old tshirts and it looks super cute. And yes, definitely round down or go down an inch. Thank you!
This tutorial is the best! I've always felt strangled by t-shirts and now, I love them. I just chop out the neckline and make it slouchy fabulous. One tip for anyone like me with shaky hands/not the neatest person with scissor: get a rotary cutter from Michael's and a self-healing cutting board. It makes the neckline cut super smooth, works really well when you flip the half neckline piece over to mirror it and it's a breeze for cleaning up any rough edges after your cut.
This is amazing, I used this method and then cut some slices out of my tee at the bottom, pulled it like you showed and it looks amazing! So much cuter than just a simple tee, slouchy and comfortable and no longer shapeless on me! So stylish!
Havent been able take the risk of ruining another t-shirt since high school but I decided to I tried it today. And the t-shirt turned out perfect!!! Thank you so much for this tutorial. This is actually the best tutorial on the internet❤️❤️❤️
I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to finally google how to cut a t shirt like this, but I’m glad I finally did!! This is a PERFECT design!! Love how my shirts turned out and this will be my go to guide for all of my shirts I cut the neck out of (which is quite a few of them, I hate a tight neck, and this way is so much more beautiful and dainty). Thank you!!!!
Great tutorial. I actually cut 3 T'shirts and a sweater I definitely were gonna do away with them..and I didn't mess them up your instructions were on point. THANKS AGAIN
This was so helpful! I, too, have ruined a handful of t-shirts trying to make them "off the shoulder" and ending up making them "off the torso" because the opening was too large. I wish I could give you more than a thumbs up. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow I kind of feel like a god damned idiot because you know how many t-shirts I’ve f’d up over the years???? I didn’t even measure. I just cut like a 1/2” around the collar in the front and pretty much just cut the collar off in the back. Perfect! Thank you so much!
Ima be honest I found this cutest v-shirt in a thrift store and I figured it would look cute as off a shoulder style. This definitely worked as an outline for me to improv off of. Here’s some tips I have if you want to do v-neck with these (because I could find literally no tutorials for them for me): 1.instead of cutting the way entirely to the end of the hem for the v, cut only about a inch or half from the bottom of the V, keep some hem so it stays on. 2. Make the shoulder length slightly smaller then normal length it won’t look as cute and slips around easily because of the amount you cut off 3. (Kinda in general) Safety pins are your life saver, if you cut to low/ it’s falling off, chose your desired location on the neckline and safety pins it together Overall came out very cute! And I think I did a good job seeing as this was my first time!! :3
Thank you for this tutorial. I needed to cut a t-shirt for an '80's vibe for a show I am in. First try and it turned out totally awesome!😉 Thanks for the tips to measure, not cut the back of the neck, and to roll. Very helpful!!
I actually found this on Halloween, I was searching all over for methods to do this for a sweatshirt that I really didn’t wanna ruin and this method helped so much and now I’ve use it on so many T-shirts that I used to not wear at all, now I wear them all the time, thank you so much
I'd never realized you can actually cut your own shirt to make a off shoulder top. Thank you ma'am for making this video. I tried to look for off shoulder tops online and in stores but none of them have my size and they barely sale them online but Thanks to you now I can make one of my shirts a off shoulder top to match the kind of outfits I want. Thank you again 🤗🤗
Thank you so much for recording this "How to" was SO EASY to follow. I wanted an easy go to, to do this, went right to You Tube of course, and clicked on your video first!!! Fabulous, now I can make my shirts with a sexy, slouchy, neck line. So grateful to have your example. 🤩
I have wanted to make one of these for a while. After watching your video, I went to the closet, grabbed a shirt and started your video again! I followed your directions and the top came out perfect! Thank you so much! I don't have any experience cutting-making any clothes, this top was my first! I can see I will be making a lot of these! Thank you again!
I’m so glad I found this very detailed video! I just tried this on a shirt I got today that was super plain and weird fitting, and omg I’m obsessed with how it turned out!! I’m doing this to all my tshirts!
I just did this to my old hello kitty shirt I used to use at the barn all the time. This came out perfectly and Ive made new life out of my old favorite go to shirt. Thank you!
I never really tried to cut any of my shirts but after this tutorial I had the curragh to give it a first try and ... It turned out PERFECTLY ! The fit is really perfect and I was amazed how easy and fast it was ! I would like to thank you for this great tutorial, love and kisses Mouna from Belgium !
This video was really helpful. Thanks for breaking it down so well. The trick about not cutting the back the same as the front was really helpful. No ruined t shirt for me....even on the first try! Thanks!
Thank you! I am large busted and high collar t-shirts never looked good...until now! Thanks for this tip. I have been cutting up all my t-shirts all afternoon. It looks so good on its own or with a lacy cami underneath. It's like a have a brand new wardrobe!
I've done it! Twice so far thanks to you and this video!! Thanks so much for helping me to finally feel as though my clothes suit my style and fit my own petite frame. Love
I cut the hole too big on an off shoulder I made. I used regular and rhinestone safety pins and cheap chain to make 3 straps to help hold it up. Countless compliments. :) great way to still be able to use one you love.
Thank you so much!! Totally used your method annd after 1 try on a practice shirt, tried it on my Adele Concert t-shirt . It came out great!!!!!! love it! And didn’t ruin it. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much! The hem of my Coheed and Cambria shirt is all ripped from age, and I love the shirt with a passion (it's also a size bigger), and I love the way it looks when it's off the shoulder. I have to wear sweaters to cover the rips, which disappoint me greatly, because since it's so big, it covers a lot, which makes me look bigger if I put on a sweater. I'm ready to give this tutorial a go!
I was really nervous about doing this because the shirt cost me 25€ at a dance exhibition 😭 and... IT TURNED OUT GREAT!! It's way more comfortable now and it looks awesome. Thank you for the video!!!
Thank you. I was pretty much doing it the same but learned a couple of things from you. You are a VERY good teacher with thorough instructions. I loved this video!
Thank you so much for making this! I need an off the shoulder shirt for my Roxy Lalonde cosplay and you basically saved me. I'll be trying it tomorrow morning.
Enjoyed your tutorial! I have several t-shirts which I've wanted to wear but the neckline was too tight and the bottom was too narrow... followed your instructions and with other t's I just cut the ribbed neckline off because I did not necessarily need the drop shoulder and what a difference it made !!!! I then cut the sleeve and bottom hems as you did. Thank you for your very well-done informative video...
Awesome video!! I just purchased this adorable Minnie Mouse pullover and I told my husband it would have been even cuter off the shoulder. Sat down today and watched this video and followed everything step by step and this shirt is extremely cute now!! Thank you so much!!
OMG! this tutorial saved my fashion life lol I'm a budding designer and I've been looking for a way to re-invent my old clothes. Thanks you so much for such clear instructions. This worked out perfectly.
This worked SOOOOOO perfectly!! I have been hoarding a bunch of old concert t-shirts in men's sizes (because that's all they sold) and now they are transformed into the cutest ladies gym shirts!
Hi, I remembered your video from a few years ago but didn't try it. I'm excited that I found you again and going to cut probably 2 t-shirts today! I love off the shoulder tops!! I'm tiny (5"ft) so now I can cut them perfectly to my size. Your instructions & tips are awesome! Thanks!! :D
love it. First shirt was intended to be a "sleep shirt" just in case i need a 2 or 3 practice-shirt learning curve lol... turned out wonderful on first try! thank you so much for posting the video. Clear, precise instructions and a wonderful help!
no problem! i am usually an x-small or a small. i've used this method on xs to medium ladies and also medium mens t-shirts. i think they all look nice... it depends on your preference. the yellow shirt is size small ladies if i remember correctly. hope this helps - let me know if you need anything further!
it's totally up to you. i personally like them to be even (i like the slouchy look you get on one side plus sometimes i adjust the shirt so it's off both shoulders)... but if you like, you can cut the sleeves different lengths.
hey. one thing you could add... especially if its a shirt that you would mostly ware off the shoulder... is to make the sleeve that is the off the shoulder sleeve shorter. i have done it and left it on many shirts and so many people say it looks super good but the sleeve looks funny longer on just the one side. just a tip. but thanks so much for the tips on getting the swoop just right. that was always a challenge. thanks so much for the help. the steps make the process way easier and faster... which is a big big help cause now everyone wants me to make them one. thanks again
+Hope Duncan thank you! that's a good idea to cut one sleeve shorter for the tops you tend to wear off the same shoulder! i sometimes switch shoulders so i haven't done that yet but i may experiment with it in the future. i think it's awesome that you're making the shirts for other people. :)
My favorite tee shirt’s collar was warping and Ive been pretty upset about it for a while. Was gonna just throw it out but my friend gave me this video and now I get to enjoy it way longer
ive tried eyeballing it before, too big. then i tried using my store bought off shoulder shirts to measure, still too big, not the same. your method worked perfectly. instead of cutting off the bottom though, i cut up the side of the shirt along the seam, then tied the two pieces together for a little bow/knot. a bit 90s but hey what can i say, im a 90s girl ;)
I’m so glad you suggested a practice shirt. I ended having to go out to the dollar store in the middle of this tutorial to purchase a new and better pair of scissors for $1.35. Great instructions- ready to do this on the actual top I wanna wear tonight.😊
Thanks so much for this! I had some of my fiance's old t-shirts I wanted to do this for, and this really helped a lot. Because his t-shirts are obv. a larger size than I would buy for myself, all I had to do was adjust the measurements a bit. Worked awesome, thanks again!
Just tried this tutorial. I think it worked out great. I wish I could put a pic here, but anyway. I guess I could do a reel. Thank you so much for the instructions. I’ll remember this forever now!!
OMG u dont understand how happy i am that i found this video, seriously! i followed your steps and i finally cut it exactly how i wanted! thank you so much :'D

Perfect! The measurement, rounding down, leaving the back of the collar straight across, gentle stretching to create the "roll"...absolutely perfect. Thank you!
I just cut my first perfect tee shirt!!! Thank you! Now I’m going to cut up all my boring basic shirts and refresh my wardrobe!!
You saved my shirt!!! I ordered a Johnny Depp shirt and it came way too big- you saved it for me!
This tutorial was SOOO helpful. I was able to do it on my first try without screwing up my shirt! MAKE MORE TUTORIALS! THEY ARE SO HELPFUL!
+Maliah Jobe thank you!!! i'm really happy you found it helpful. :)
Perfect! Tried it and turned my t's into a more dressy fashion statement. Perfect amount of talking. I was able to cut while you were talking and that made the process easy and fast. Everything about this tutorial if FAB!

Watched it! Eye balled it ! Nailed it!!! I messed up by cutting both layers on other attempts! Never again ! Thanks !

I just tried and it worked!! I have a small stack of tees to do now! Thanks from a very hip grandma.

Ima be honest I found this cutest v-shirt in a thrift store and I figured it would look cute as off a shoulder style. This definitely worked as an outline for me to improv off of.
Here’s some tips I have if you want to do v-neck with these (because I could find literally no tutorials for them for me):

FYI - don't use a marker - use sewing chalk! It will wash out! :}
Awesome video!! I just purchased this adorable Minnie Mouse pullover and I told my husband it would have been even cuter off the shoulder. Sat down today and watched this video and followed everything step by step and this shirt is extremely cute now!! Thank you so much!!
+prettysmile86 i'm so glad it worked out well!! the minnie mouse pullover sounds so cute!
@MC Trocio - you can use a string or ribbon cut to the length you need and use that as a guide. :)
petitepearstyle great idea!
Amazing! Just tried this with a new tshirt and the results are awesome. 15-16cm is perfect on me! You're the best. Thank you so much.

Can you use the same method for v neck shirts?
yes, i think it could work if the v isn't too deep!
Thanks!! :D

I’ve ruined so many shirts trying to do this but used this method to cut three shirts and they were all perfect. Yay!
3:37 The little dog is so cute >.
:) thank you!
Thanks! Works great. Our bass player won't stop making hers. She's buying new t-shirts and using them! They look so cute. Thanks! Love the puppy!!
haha thanks so much! loved reading your comment :)
This was awesome! Worked out perfectly! Thanks for your help :)
thank you!! :)
love it. First shirt was intended to be a "sleep shirt" just in case i need a 2 or 3 practice-shirt learning curve lol... turned out wonderful on first try! thank you so much for posting the video. Clear, precise instructions and a wonderful help!
Kristy Vairetta thank you for watching and for your comment! :)
Great tutorial and adorible dog ^^
no problem! i am usually an x-small or a small. i've used this method on xs to medium ladies and also medium mens t-shirts. i think they all look nice... it depends on your preference. the yellow shirt is size small ladies if i remember correctly. hope this helps - let me know if you need anything further!
Omg I love your dog and thanks for the video it really helped me! You are very gorgeous by the way!
This converted a too tight kid’s shirt I couldn’t get myself to give away into something I can use for longer! Pretty happy right now
going to try one tonight!! You are too cute!! Thx for the tutorial!
it's totally up to you. i personally like them to be even (i like the slouchy look you get on one side plus sometimes i adjust the shirt so it's off both shoulders)... but if you like, you can cut the sleeves different lengths.
This is so helpful!!! Can you be my mom?
Just tried this for my 6 yr olds shirt! & it worked great!! super simple & your instructions are great. thanks!
+Rachel Salazar hooray! thanks for commenting. :)

hey. one thing you could add... especially if its a shirt that you would mostly ware off the shoulder... is to make the sleeve that is the off the shoulder sleeve shorter. i have done it and left it on many shirts and so many people say it looks super good but the sleeve looks funny longer on just the one side. just a tip. but thanks so much for the tips on getting the swoop just right. that was always a challenge. thanks so much for the help. the steps make the process way easier and faster... which is a big big help cause now everyone wants me to make them one. thanks again
+Hope Duncan thank you! that's a good idea to cut one sleeve shorter for the tops you tend to wear off the same shoulder! i sometimes switch shoulders so i haven't done that yet but i may experiment with it in the future. i think it's awesome that you're making the shirts for other people. :)
@Amber Atevalu - sorry i can't reply directly to your comment... yes, you can use the same method for a sweatshirt!
It didn't sock
My favorite tee shirt’s collar was warping and Ive been pretty upset about it for a while. Was gonna just throw it out but my friend gave me this video and now I get to enjoy it way longer
I tried this on an old T shirt, and I love the way it turned out! Can't wait to try it on a shirt that I love! Thank you!
i'm happy it worked out! :)
ive tried eyeballing it before, too big. then i tried using my store bought off shoulder shirts to measure, still too big, not the same. your method worked perfectly. instead of cutting off the bottom though, i cut up the side of the shirt along the seam, then tied the two pieces together for a little bow/knot. a bit 90s but hey what can i say, im a 90s girl ;)
stephanie armer i'm so glad this worked out for you... gotta love the 90s! :)
I’m so glad you suggested a practice shirt. I ended having to go out to the dollar store in the middle of this tutorial to purchase a new and better pair of scissors for $1.35. Great instructions- ready to do this on the actual top I wanna wear tonight.😊
Used this method on a t-shirt and a hoodie that I never wore because it was too tight around the neck. It worked great on both! Thanks so much! :)
thanks! i've never tried it on a hoodie but that would look so good!! :)
petitepearstyle It's very cute! It makes a cute off the shoulder sweater :)
Thanks girl ❤ I watched multiple videos trying to find the best way to do this and you made it so simple to understand and it looks perfect.
OMG u dont understand how happy i am that i found this video, seriously! i followed your steps and i finally cut it exactly how i wanted! thank you so much :'D
yay!! so glad it worked out! :)
