From a former KFC employee. Sweet lightening is peaches and honey flavored. It is allegedly inspired by Southern influences and made to complement the 11 herbs and spices in KFC’s secret recipe.
So...I actually order this with a side of mashed potatoes and eat the sandwich with a fork and knife haha. Tastes like a fast food version of a chicken cordon bleu
South Korea's KFC had the double down for a while, but their version had orange cheese and a hashbrown in the middle instead. The cutlets were also more proportioned for the filling. Apparently, it was incredible and stayed crunchy for longer. I would have loved to try that version 😭
Oh my goodness I love the Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning. I really wish they would put it in bottles in the stores, we need a MD peach flavor. (Are you listening Pepsico?)

"They've replaced the buns with chicken!!" well if that's the case, your original burger was going to be some bacon strips, cheese and sauce in a bun... I had the KFC wraps today, because I remember them fondly (the DD hasn't hit here yet). I haven't had fast food in months, I'd forgotten how salty everything is. It was still good, but definitely not an everyday thing.
I actually had this today after hearing they came back since I never tried when it was first available, but the spicy version. There is no pickles in the the spicy version but a spicy mayo. Surprisingly it didn't taste as salty as I had heard they were.
It has been along while since I had one of these Double Downs. I like to buy them, cut it up and add it to either a coleslaw or caesar salad. I get 4 servings with one double down and I enjoy the combination.
I agree about that. I will not eat chicken sandwiches from fast food places- McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King- and it is very rare that I go to KFC, if at all. But I do enjoy watching Emmy! She is great!
They're fries are great, however, I've only had the skinny ones. Their gravy is the best!!! My mouth is watering now💦. I will have to see if we're having the same promotion in Canada. I love wet naps too!
I hope they eventually make it permanent but I doubt it. I got the spicy version and dipped it into my mashed potatoes, amazing. There’s also a traditional sandwich version and it’s good too and less salty.

Speaking of a sandwich that spun out a joke. This week McDonalds in Canada introduced their McChicken Big Mac. Basically a Big Mac that swapped in chicken in place of the beef patties. KFC in Canada responded by taking a photo of their breaded fried chicken breasts in place of the Big Mac patties and parked a big lighted billboard in front of a McDonalds at night and stated "There, we fixed it" Who would have thought the next battleground of the chicken sandwich wars would be fought in Canada?

Here in Australia, we had a version of the double down, but we had a slice of pineapple in it and I’m pretty sure it had mayonnaise and bacon and cheese but I’m unsure if it had to pickles or not because I didn’t get the chance to try it

If I were to make something like this I would butterfly the chicken breast, pound it flat and basically do the baked fried chicken with cornflakes. Make a coleslaw with a vinegar dill dressing and use pepper jack cheese. That or bacon jam and cheddar cheese or Pimento cheese and dill pickles.
Omg I remember seeing this sandwhich as a kid and I wanted one so bad! I might have to get one though the price seems a little excessive. Also I had the sweet lighting and it was so bad I couldn't finish it! It tastes like a peach ring gummy candy, very artificial and very sweet!
I'm not sure if I remember the commercials in 2010. I didn't go to KFC that much. I like their biscuits, fried chicken breast , plain mashed potatoes, plain chicken sandwich, French fries and their chocolate cake.

The reason you don't get same taste as you would from the original chicken, is because it's a different flour mixture. Crispy seasoning is used for the fillets and tenders. Original seasoning is for original chicken only.
