Very cool to see James Bond 007's real life SOE agents just as daring & fascinating, it would make a great episode in itself about the SOE agents. I hear the Bond music playing.

I was in the ATC in 1960s in 1961 we went from Newcastle upon Tyne down to Tangmere for 2 weeks training. I went up twice in a Chipmunk trainer and I realised that my dream of becoming a pilot would never happen. My m8 from schoolhowever went on to become a pilot and flew shackleton for weather reporting and COMETS FOR SAME. I also got my marksmanship badge on 303s on the firing range.

Tangmere is indeed quite a gem of a museum, but like any has its ups and downs and politics getting in the way of progress, its well worth the visit, some great staff there to assist, but be warned there is a lot to see and take in, its worth a run round first, perhaps film it, pick out what you need to see in more detail and spend that time reading, the SOE section is pretty good
Sgt's Noble's Hurricane is quite a sad tail as were many of the thousands of airmen who lost their fight in skies above England and Europe, another character to look out for was a Czeck pilot called Josef František of 303 Polish Squadron, he was well known for going off on his own, chasing German airmen high and low, and sometimes got caught out, low on fuel having to crash land only to be found drinking in an English pub afterwards muttering in Czeck to be arrested by local Police thinking he was Jerry and the RAF Police hearing of his arrest coming to collect their airmen back

I kept looking at the title, and defence just looked so wrong. Wrong until checked and found out defence is correct based on it being written in the UK. On this side of the pond, we spell it defense. Learned something new I didn’t know about… My US-based iPhone and iPad spell-checkers were having fits too!

yes my little Yankee friend, there are many words similarly spelt wrong haha, and having written both US and UK defences i still have problems remembering which is which, defence and license and they say you speak English, i beg to differ, the funny thing is i watch so many US videos on You Tube i am accustomed to using both again, if not using both descriptions of items such as on cars, hood/bonnet, fender/wing, bumper/fender it can get quite confusing - check out MS Word, it does have both US and UK spell checks, most PCs also have UK and US set keypads

219 Sqdn. A nightfighter squadron were based here too, I had a friend some years ago who told me about her brother a pilot officer who died in a midair collision on April 30th 1941 over Brighton on a intercept training flight. He is buried in St Andrew churchyard Tangmere

Hangers are long gone and the watch office is derelict though the museum is still going.
The rest of the site is dominated by a vast nursery complex growing peppers etc for supermarkets
