One of the best songs on the album, in my opinion. Sixth song I learned. And you're spot on *that* riff, man. That f*cking riff. I just imagine the whole goddamn stadium jumping in unison to that. I certainly would. I don't feel disappointed at all with how they chose to jigsaw this song. I think they knew what they were doing. They were probably building up to that specific riff, because it sticks to your mind due to the nature of its pulchritude.
@@ryanwalker2016 he did mention it in an interview that he can't wait to play it live and the middle section was built from his idea. I mean, the bass leads this riff anyway. I love it!
I feel like this song's pace is like a fire burning, the first riff is the match being struck and the fire being lit, and then it slowly starts burning until it engulfs everything in flames
The intro is that cool riff, did you not hear it. .. when I first heard this song I knew they would bring that intro back in somewhere, i just didnt know it would sound cooler. It also ends the song the way it began it.
You don't really know much about Metallica if you can't understand long instrumental intros and middle breaks. It's all about the slow build up to an amazing final third.
I do not hear anything related to Sad but true, maybe Devil's Dance style a bit, and vocal melody. Second part of the song is really amazing, and when you analyze the lyrics, gives a song new dimension. But these reactions are getting ridiculous, everybody is composer now, rearranging things, just listen to the song as is, follow the lyrics... Some parts are driven just by vocals and lyrics...
@@Chainbrain Alright but what is the point, especially on the first listen - this trend to consume music like this is strange to me, analyzing every section with thoughts what to change and how. Digesting it too fast, won't you agree... This is reaction video, but still. Anyhow, interesting videos and thoughts...
This is my favorite song, too long, but I love the more Load/Reload sound it has, especially at “in the heat of the night”, they should’ve went with the short but sweet route, like with too far gone and room of mirrors, 5 or 4 1/2 minutes would’ve been ideal.
1st thing that came to my mind about vocals at minute 4 is Ghost, i don't know if they were inspired by ghost while recording this but sure as hell seems so (which is great in my opinion)
There is such a thing as musical taste. You either like somthing or you dont. Thats totally cool I honestly loved this song the first time i heard it I find it difficult to understand how you didnt feel it straight of the bat. I like how you now like the song. Not as quick to the plate as the rest of us Thats ok, you got there. Keep rocking mate.
You seem like your mind was made up before you listened to it. I think it is one of the stronger songs on the album. If this was made by any other band it would of made them.
Personally I think the first half could use like one fewer verse-chorus loop and one more change up prior to the second chorus riff/solo. The second half also doesn't need the chorus repeat right before the outro and feels perfect for an outro solo into the hard cutoff. Like, to me this song (more than any other on the album) feels like it coulda been really good if they kept it at more like 4-5 minutes and just threw in one change in the first half and one in the outro.
I was the same until about 2 weeks ago when the album just clicked. Cannot get the songs out of my head now and I actually get the songs. Be interesting to see how it ages for you
I totally agree with your feelings on this song. For me this song is only good because of that riff, the first 4 minutes are just me waiting for the riff to hit...
Great song. Has a slayer/sabbath feel in some parts. The main hook is one of the better riffs they've written in years. The recording in general sounds great. Bridge is pretty rad. There's so much good to this song.
Haven't even watched 2 seconds of the video yet and the title scares me bc I loved this song so much Edit: ok after listening with an open mind I can see why your disappointed but I still love this song and the album 🤟🤟🤟
I just LOVE all the Riffs, Hooks and FAT BASS on this ENTIRE ALBUM! But this one MAYBE my least fav on the album.. If the riffs weren't so catchy with a good mix I could not listen. Regardless of any lack of the Kirks ability to show off Soloing or not debate. Also I like your take on the "Best Riff" in this song... doesn't bother me to much they save it for the middle of a 7 minute song though... I don't hear Sad But True in it either. SIMILAR Groove & Timing to be Catchy yea. But different enough notes in the riff to stand on its own IMO.... ALWAYS appreciate your Take especially on Metallica tunes considering I am EXTREMELY Bias Trujillo/Metallica Superfan 😂Thanks for another good Reaction VOD 🤘
Why wouod anyone hurry up the songs, up to personal's choice I guess, I'm really enjoying the build ups in these songs. I wonder if you'll say the same about the older songs if they were released today... anyway, enjoying these reactions, rock on brother.
What I like is that every song off this album has lots of people saying its their favourite song or top 3.... shows that its catering to all different types of metallica fans. This is, for me, their weakest song off the album but even then i enjoy listening to it
After years of listening to (of) music - you can't have songs just build of good parts - those good parts are floating on top of every other part of the song, some even be uplifted by comparison to the base melody. All good song will be all mediocre song.
This is a boring song overall with its structure. The main riff would work better if it had a heavy tone to it just like Sad but true. Kirk's solo is his nowadays basic doodle and has no character. It has few cool parts I really dig: - intro - pre-chorus with epic vocals - 4:20
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO MENTIONS IT, Some how everyone has the ability to just ignore these fucking annoying snare fills. Lars overplays the fuck out of that snare for this song. Even live on sad but true nowadays. Seriously annoying.
@@ben1ben "everyone has ability to ignore" lol maybe you and few other malcontents has ability to make drama because of Lars drumming every time possible 😂
@@KrzyDab I mean you see Chainbrain complaining on Kirks solo's aswell. Me as a drummer of course I am getting pissed off at Lars having a 7 piece and only spamming the snare FOR 4 MEASURES LONG.
Probably my least favourite song on the album next to Crown Of Barbed Wire. Its grown on me. My problem with it is that it's too long and just really doesn't go anywhere. Its a shame because there are some nice riffs here. I think if shortened it and modified the arrangement it would be great.
This whole album has me feeling like you do. Like little hints of badass in each song mixed in with mediocre, boring, bland, yawn inducing songs. I don't think I've been this disappointed in a Metallica album since load came out. I understand that they're never going to be what they were with the first 5 albums. I'm not expecting that. But ever since load, there's been at least 2 or 3 gems on each album that give u that goosebump feeling, that make you want to revisit the song immediately. Nothing on this album does that for me. All of his solos on this album are just so forgettable and actually take away from any positive the song has going for it. It's like they are letting him have a solo just for the sake of solo. And wtf is up with James' lyrics? So fuckin elementary and off beat and don't flow with the songs whatsoever. It's sounds forced. Like he has nothing left to write anymore. No cool ideas lyrically anymore. I think the only song I actually enjoy is if darkness had a son. It's the only song that I somewhat enjoy. It has the most quintessential Metallica sound. To me anyway. Everyone complains about it being repetitive. But if u actually go back and really listen to Metallica, even in their prime, A LOT of their songs are super fuckin repetitive. It's like their formula. Verse chorus verse chorus solo middle breakdown, verse chorus outro. Even some of their most iconic heavy hitters like the thing that should not be. and justice for all title track. Same riff over and over and over and over with a few switch ups here and there. Many others. This isn't coming from a Metallica hater either. Metallica will always be my favorite all time band. I grew up with them and will always love them but I can't defend them with their new music anymore. It's cringe. James voice is gone. That high pitched singing is embarrassing. Yes I know he blew out his voice on the black album tour. But all of the following records he didn't sound like that in studio. Yes I know he's older. I don't need all the reasons why. It still doesn't change the way I feel. They need to just stop. Everywhere I go and everything I read is this non stop echo chamber of everyone praising this album. I'm like wtf are you guys hearing that I'm not? Like I don't get it. What am I missing? Left and right man like "Metallica's back!" Or "best album since black album" etc..lol!! C'mon man. This shit is garbage
Fantastic song fantastic album. Pretty sure this guy thinks he can do it better than metallica. There is literally nothing wrong with this or any other song on the album. Sad but true rip off? Theyve made 42 years worth of music...SOMETHING is going to resemble something over that amount of time.
My only problem with this song is the fact that they waited to add the awesome riff and everything else was eh. But like he said nothing about being able to do it better? People can have different opinions dog
