Also, congrats on the 2 years my friend. Much love and respect.

I’m almost to 3.5 years and I agree. Besides the everyday stuff like work and chores, I don’t ever have to do anything that I don’t want to do. I don’t hang out with people I don’t want, don’t go to events I don’t want, I only do exactly what I want to do everyday because there’s no “oh well I’ll get drunk and it’ll be fun anyway” mindset. No waking up and thinking “wish I’d stayed home last night. I didn’t have fun and now I’m hungover and ashamed.” It’s so freeing.

Growing up during this era and watching all these guys, everything just felt normal in how they portrayed themselves. Then one day you realize the body count around you. The harsh reality is that there are people who can come out clean, but there’s more who get swept away into an even darker world. Yes it was fun. Yes it was entertaining. But what’s the cost of it all? When you’re young it’s really hard to reconcile with that. It’s great to see people like Erik influencing people another way. 👏👏👏

Hearing his experience, strength, and hope, yet not having to voluntarily commit a dollar to the donation basket or "7th tradition". It was meant as an inside joke for any fellow Alcoholics. As it is very clear, by the words and phrases Erik is using to describe his journey that he attends alcoholics anonymous. I hope this helps, good luck with your English!

I just made 13 months sober this month. I think the last 20+ years of heavy drinking took a toll on my body, I used drugs and alcohol to suppress my PTSD from time in service. I’m still learning who I am and dealing with a lot of buried issues. I’m able to work through them as I’m sober but it’s a long road ahead. Good for Eric taking the steps.

I was never much of a drinker, my issues was with drugs. But it used to coincide with skating. Every day at the park someone had a bunch of 40s. So it's really cool to see the guys who, with lack of a better explanation, glorified that behavior, really speak against it. Look at how many skaters lives were ruined because of drinking. Ali boulala, and the one that REALLY hurts me, Cory Kennedy. I can't imagine where that dude would be now if it wasn't for that incident.

I've done it all. But I didn't become and alcoholic until my late 30s. I can't imagine how anyone could drink excessively and get up and skate. Enjoy your youth. Because the bitch slap of age is coming for us all.

Soberness is not better than having a few drinks once in a while and flexing the time you dont drink to non alchoholics will always be weird.

You’re obviously too immature to understand what is going on here
Although yes I agree that it’s weird to flex being sober, but that’s not what most people, especially this video, are attempting to do. And that’s more about who the person is, shallow and always wanting to appear ‘better’ than the next man
But yes, soberness is definitely better than having a few drinks....for those who are prone to addiction / substance abuse. It’s not worth the risk
It’s not something that’s seen in the same way, but look how many people are fat / overweight. That is substance abuse / addiction, just in a more acceptable form. Obesity costs the healthcare system and society to a much greater degree than alcoholism, when considering all the social & economic factors

Alcoholism is a myth. They literally have people running around saying “I havent drank a drop in 37 yeaaars!” Calling themselves that. 12 steps may have been a legit thing before but now its a new age mk ultra device for robbing people of their own dignity and conscious free will

dudes waking up in their late 30's developing compassion for others. selfishness is a blessing and a curse. wish we could look closely and give help more so ur homie doesn't have to get to a rock bottom
respect, everything comes at a different time for everyone, i guess you have to go thru ur whole life hurting other people to realize u need some compassion for others..sucks it has to be that way. some people take care of addicts their entire life and are also fucked up (how are ur kids, wife?)

If you can't learn to moderate your alcohol intake in your thirties then my all means quit. I'll never be a quitter though. I'm 39 and drink probably twice a month. I don't know how anyone in our age group can drink more than that. The hangovers get insanely bad, which in turn helps me moderate my drinking even more. This guy will probably drink again later and life and see that it's not like it was back in the day and is easier to control.
    Marijuana is the good drug.
