    This label printer uses thermal technology, with lamination to protect the printed layer. Big Clive made a video showing how it works.

    The heat shrink is good on this machine. Great for marking up data and CCTV cables. There is also a security tape that leaves a mess if you rip it off. Also a tape that lets you etch into metal. I think David Savery has this and uses the fluorescent orange tape for his branding labels you see sometimes in his videos.

    When printing for patch panel can you mix text sizes after a return for next line
    (BIG number above and the smaller (space fit) text below)?
    Also i think this unit has micro-usb. I want it to get usb-c, then i will buy it.

    I have a PT-E500 and the biggest drawback for me is the uploaded templates are unable to be saved if you edit them on the label maker. My question is, on the E550W , if used with the iPhone or android app, can I edit and save uploaded templates from the label maker to my mobile device.

    The printing is done thermally, taking it's "Ink" from a pigment tape, which deposits the pigment, mirror fashion onto the underside of the top, clear layer, and the remaining is rolled up onto a take-up spool The adhesive backing tape is then introduced trapping the pigment between the two layers. This layer has the colour required...

    At my company we have several of this printer with and without the Bluetooth option. I use one daily and I can tell you that they are TREMENDOUSLY wasteful. It sacrifices an inch of tape before every print operation. For the 8m cartridge, if you print one hundred and sixty one-inch labels one at a time then you're binning literally half of the tape in the cartridge.
    There are ways to mitigate the waste by printing longer labels like patch panels, by using the inbuilt serializing function or by creating a CSV or XLSX list in advance and printing that from the onboard memory or from the P-Touch software but unless you're unusually organized this is rarely possible or convenient. Also, there is no way-on the device, itself-to create a list of disparate labels and print them all at once. Even the Android app can't do this.
    P-Touch for Windows feels like abandonware from 2003. The way it handles the import of XLSX and CSV files is infuriatingly bad and it has a bevy of other crazy-making quirks.
    I don't pay for the labels so it doesn't hurt me financially but it can cost time and frustration when you run out of tape in the middle of work and you look down to see a small puddle of useless fragments that could have been the next hundred labels.

      All of the printers do the same. Its because that inch you call waste is ahead of the writing position in order for the roll to move. Look closely to the tape.

    hello, I would like to use TZe ribbons to make labels for climbing gear in my climbing club. This means it would be applieds on curved, metal surfaces and subject to rock stripes, for exemple : on ice-axe handle or on a carabiner. Would you recommend this type of labels? specially regarding the rock stripe abrasion.

    • @rubosrex7303
      @rubosrex7303 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thats extreme. They have "super adhesive" tape. Try that and wrap it in a place where its less likely to get rubbed often.

  • @Shocker99

    Does it cut tight to the print and/or can you set it?
    I have a Dyno and it leaves 10-30mm on each side. I have to get scissors and cut it down to size which looks awful because the cuts are always wonky.
    Did i see correctly, 11:25 - the labeller cut a larger label down to match the print?

    • @janzagar7009
      @janzagar7009 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can set a tight cut or to leave some tape so you can peel it easier.

    • @rubosrex7303
      @rubosrex7303 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It only leaves the excess on one side then does a half cut so you can easily peel your label

    the Epson LW-PX900 is much easier to use and has great computer software, and you dont get the wasted tape before a label

  • @buterdhams
    @buterdhams 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How do you make it so you don’t waste that tape in the beginning? Seems to waste a inch or so

    • @rubosrex7303
      @rubosrex7303 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You dont. On the tape itself that waste sits before the "writing" end. And it serves the purpose of making it easy to peel your label by doing a half cut. That waste also serves to keep the empty tape together seeing as some are also split horizontally and without it you'd have a bunch of tiny pieces strewn around.

    I use the equivalent but from Dymo, the Dymo XTL 300, mostly with the cable wrap cartridge for UTP/STP cabling.
    To be sincere nowardays I regret getting her and not the older Rhino models or the same model as this Brother (when I bought my XTL 300, Brother didn't had release yet the W model. This revision is recent).
    But at the same time it works and I can't find a reason to replace it, other than I want to replace it.

    For non-critical environments (no uv rays, no chemicals, etc.) I have started to exclusively use generic / knock-off tape because I think brothers price policy is a joke: one cartridge of normal black-on-white 12mm tape currently sells for 14-17€ which is just two bucks less than I paid for the whole printer (PT-E100) about three years ago.
