Well done! Im trying this (parry only RL1 no hit) in ng+ right now and am struggling a little bit. Its those fucking swipe attacks. One of them is parryable and the other is not. Theyre almost identical - the parryable double swipe he lifts his arm just a little bit higher. Both come out too fast to reaction parry/dodge (because only one is parryable and theres no time to second guess yourself), and if you press the wrong button you get hit no matter what. I see for the most part you just dodge both variations and i guess thats the smarter approach. Ill try it that way. Great job again, youre awesome!
So, the reason I avoid the higher swipe sometimes is because the combos that he follows it up with are very unique with their behavior when you parry them. He actually continues those combos after a brief pause after you parried him. But if you parry the swipe, he won't follow it up at all. So if you need more than one parry, you can dodge the swipe so you can then parry part of the next combo, which he will continue and allow you parry again. It's so cool and is very good for getting two parries in quick succession. However, if I'm calm and know I only need one more more parry to stun, I go ahead and parry the high swipe. However there are times where I still dodge it reflexively because yeah as you said, there's not a lot of time to react, and it gets hard to keep track in an actual run sometimes lol. Also, one of the combos he follows up the swipe with can still potentially only give you one parryable move (the scary spinning move), but it's really nice when you get the other combo for two parries. If you keep at it, you should be able to get to the point where you can actually identify which swipe is coming though, even if it seems impossible to you now. Good luck with your run though, he's a struggle in the beginning, but once you put in enough time he becomes insanely fun, especially with how cool the flow of the fight becomes when you parry and he continues his combo. It's one of the big reasons he's my favorite boss to parry in the entire game.
