Painting our RV Cabinets - RV Renovation Before AND After

- Hey friends! So begins our RV remodel process, with a bunch of different RV renovations to perform. First step is painting our RV Cabinets, helping brighten it up .This should breathe some new life into out Class C RV and make RV living this year that much sweeter with our new daughter.
After researching how to paint kitchen cabinets, since many are similar to our Class C RV cabinets, we started with the prep work. Sanding the cabinets, cleaning them, then using Krud Kutter to remove any oils. We also took down all the RV window valances, stove hoods and everything in the way.
We started off this RV painting project planning on using Fusion Mineral Paint, but after getting a few coats down painting cabinets doors we weren't sold on how it looked. We ended up switching over to actual interior primer and used Behr brand paint from Home Depot.
Starting an RV remodel was a big undertaking with a newborn, but these RV renovation before and after looks were so worth it. The new paint brightens it up much more than the classic RV cabinet wooden look. What an amazing transformation the paint job did! Everything is so much brighter and it looks like an entirely different rv inside. The black handles are a great addition to the white cabinets. Chloe is just precious! Happy Mother’s Day!
We've always thought other reno's looked so neat so we had to try too. It's crazy how so many RVs have the classic wood wall look still, and yet how stylish a more modern RV can look. That's fair, there definitely is a classic feel to the wood. By the time it's all done it should look like a modern tiny house on wheels though 🙂🍁

I'm 61 and started painting when I was 19. I've done interior and exterior painting in the 3 houses where I have lived. Also, interior of RV and paint in place of the peeling/ fading decals on the exterior of our Class C motorhome. Prep work is the vast majority of the work. I have used many types of tape, and they can be a pain. Your paint job is top notch work. It looks really great, and you both appear much brighter on your video. Looking forward to the rest of your renovations.
Thanks! Yeah the prep work getting everything out of the way and detached, then sanding, cleaning etc was definitely as much or more time than the actual applying coats of paint. Very important too of course though to help it last long term because we don't want to do it twice! Going to look nice once everything is complete 😁🍁

Yikes I've got the same old inside in my trailer as you two. I was thinking of just doing the kitchen cabinets but I had no idea it would be so much work! I think I'll just change all the brown curtains and valances to brighten it up. I DONT LIKE PAINTING. But guys it's looking really good. I really like the green you chose.
Painting was sure a lot of work with all the preparation and taking stuff out, but the wall papers and handles were a quick little touch in comparison!🙂🍁

Hey Teresa, thank you, and Chloe sure is a cutie! As for the paint it does make it look new hey. Also gives it a brighter cleaner house feel rather than the dark classic wood style. We're also doing the countertops and putting stick on wall paper up so it should look really good by the end of it all. Still lots of life left in the RV, but a good face lift makes it good as new! Looks awesome! We painted our RV walls and left our cabinets it was really easy to do the walls I sanded them a little and then used that bear scuff defense in flat white/cream it made such a huge difference! Congrats on the new baby! Your RV is looking so bright and happy!

Darn it, you're back and the first thing you make me do (other than awing at your little girl) is make me feel bad because I don't paint the inside of my old Tank. The "this is going to be soooo much work" pretty much sums it up for me. I'm trying other things... like ignoring the old brown color. If i can just keep my eyes closed until I leave in October I might save myself the work. Good to see you out with the baby. I was hoping you would get back out.

As for the RV reno, it certainly was a big, tedious project but we're happy with how it turned out at least. It would be a good project if you had the time to pick away at it off season and not feel as rushed to wanting to get camping. Too late now but the trick to removing painter's tape is to lightly score the edge with a razor before you pull it off..

Out of curiosity: now, few months later, is the paint still holding up nicely? I read a few times about people experiencing the paint to easily come of when scratching against it by mistake (e.g with a key or a nail or a ring). We have three kids and a dog and I am looking for a paint which looks great like yours but at the same time is also durable!
What do you think, is the paint holding up and is heavy duty enough to sustain a few rascals without chipping of? 🤪😀

It was definitely more effort than we had anticipated getting in to it. It held up well for us, but would also say it wasn't scratch proof by any means so kids could potentially scratch it. It wasn't too much of an issue but we also had a few seams part a bit likely from the rv rocking and shifting while driving. All things considered we loved the brighter look, but there is the chance it could take some scratching and then that would mean a whole lot more effort or touch ups! Thanks for watching 🙂🍁

Hey there! Generally we save up over the winter taking what jobs are available in our area and staying with family to help save. Originally we worked in banking and insurance before selling our condo to buy the RV and fund some travel.

Thanks Frank! It did indeed brighten it a lot, now just to do the bedroom and rest of the walls like the wood by the fridge to bring it all together. Worth the investment for sure though. Solar would be pretty nice but haven't looked into it in awhile since we've been managing without and not needing the generator too much. Thank you Sue, you as well! Yeah the paint turned out great hey. We've got some stick on walls to do now, a countertop refinisher, and a new sink faucet to do still and then it should be night and day difference in there. So currently I have been on 2 months leave from work, but I'm actually now in the process to see if I can extend my parental leave just unpaid to spend more time with the family and get out more this summer with them. Realized if I am allowed to take more time especially with it lining up over the summer months that it would be better spent together and doing the things we love. Keep you all posted once I hear back if I get approved though!!😁🤞🍁

Nope, not except for the main big one at face height. Otherwise most we're already a different style of the natural wood anyway!
