Yangchen C Rinzin in conversation with Dr Dorji Wangchuk

As a part of the 4th International Conference on Vajrayana Buddhism, Dr Dorji Wangchuk talked about social media and Vajrayana practices with Yangchen C Rinzin, a research fellow with the Centre for Bhutan and GNH Studies (CBS).
In the conversation with Dorji Wangchuk, he talked about his research based on ethnographic fieldwork from 2018 to 2021 and using the
cultural discourse analysis on multimodal and digital messages, and
everyday talk-in-interactions exchanged between members of
Bhutanese families and local communities. His paper has shown that both the online and offline religious practices, of Bhutanese, come together around the local deities, while also co-creating a sacred chronotope and a sense of common purpose, imagined community and national unity. Particularly the use of social media App "Wechat" in the context of Bhutanese.
In close collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation, India, the CBS and the Central Monastic Body of Bhutan, organised the conference from October 1 to October 4 in Bhutan.
