I spend a lot of time on stream answering questions about Football Manager and I always wondered what the most asked questions actually are. Then I became the last person on the internet to realize there was a very simple way to find that out. Time to get in the FM hot seat with google itself.

Dont ask for an easier FM experience, the beauty of the game is its complexity. Thats the reason many jump from FIFA like games. If FM is too hard for you, start with ManCity, or PSG or Bayern, you will win easy. If thats too easy go down a bit. Dont just start with Oriental Dragons and expect to be a GOD at the game. It takes time and knowledge, and thats the beauty of the game!

I discovered FM with Xbox Game Pass. I started with the console version, then when i felt ready, I moved to pc.
Personally, the in game editor on (to view CA and PA) helped me a lot in learning some mechanics that weren't on the console version.
I'll turn it of in the next save, so it will be more fun, but I needed to gain experience with the game firstly.
It means make it easier to understand and start with. A way to do this could be default responsibility settings (eg. Easy, medium, hard, custom) so that it’s easier for the first time players, as well as better/more tutorials such as for what effects certain things generally have.
Yes, but there are a lot of important things hidden in the game that you are not really being told about. A more "of-this-time" tutorial system that runs you through the basics of what to find where and how to do that would be super beneficial in giving newcomers a foothold.

Just to add a bit about the "needing wifi part", u do need internet acess if u play FM with the XBOX Game Pass, if u dont have internet the game will either crash midway if the game was already open before, or just not start if u didnt have it opened
i was burned out with my current save and watching this video recharged me. Sometimes going back to basics and remember why you like this game is so awesome.
Been a FIFA career mode player for over 12 years now. Just got a PC a few weeks back and saw FM 24 was on sale on Steam for $40 so I downloaded it. Start of my new gaming journey

I’ve got FM22, 23 and 24 off gamepass, took me until this week to finally sit down and figure the game out and now I can’t stop. Just won the conference league, Europa league then won the prem in 3 years with Villa, it gets a LOT more fun when you starting winning 😂

Just saying, I was a strategy gamer who knew nothing about soccer post 2008 or so. I picked up FM and it quickly became my most played game and got me interested in soccer.
I came from that niche as well, clocked thousands of hours into FM after finding it hahaha
I started play FM from 2017, and it took me 1 years to understand basic of the game, now playing FM 24 and still play the basic tactics 4-2-3-1 😅, but sometimes I played 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2.
When Zealand started talking about the best browser I thought he was being sarcastic so I expected him to open Edge.
I started off with OOTP which is basically the baseball version of FM, and although baseball is my favorite sport, FM is just a far better game and much more in depth. It really is a sandbox game

I have loved sports management games for most of my life, going all the way back to Football Manager on the 48k Sinclair Spectrum (unrelated to modern FM, programmed by Kevin Toms)...
Modern FM is a game that I love the idea of, but it has just become... too much... Where I used to complete a whole season in just a few days, now it takes hours to get through a couple of weeks...

The newest version on steam is a league licensing constraint, the same happens with Fifa/EA FC etc too
I'd only played 100hrs or so of FM19 years back, then covid happened and football stopped so I picked it up again and got hooked. Since then I've spent near on 6000 hours on the games
played fm for 7 years and its actually never crashed or been corrupted even once :')
I was unable to play FM23 on a plane that didn't have WiFi; it was the GamePass version, it needed to check with Microsoft if I had an active GP account
That's not an FM issue that is a GP issue. GP is a subscription service so if you aren't online, you technically can't access it, similar to trying to use netflix with no internet. Otherwise, everyone could just download every game in their first month and then cancel their subscription and essentially play hundreds of games for practically nothing.
Not sure if you're a comment-reader Zealand, but I think a fun game idea would be a game called Z-LAND where you are only allowed to purchase players whose names begin with Z. Because it's an arbitrary and tricky thing to stick to
Fm24 is really solid. I didn’t get 23. Played 22 for 2 years and was definitely the right call. I made the call based on watching your videos. Fm24 though is freakin awesome
My FM doesn't take long to simulate; it takes me a long time to play, I just want to fiddle with everything
I always thought that SI need to fix the online game. It has HUGE potential. In hindsight FMLive came way too early, but they should definitely give it another go. I suspect after FM26 will look at this.

I have to say, I think I've only had one crash on FM24. Reliability seems to getting better in this respect.

I remember buying fm13 on december in the year of release for 15€. It was amazing. Now it cost so much, and cant play touch on pc, or you need Netflix for mobile version...
I have a question. In a long term save is there a minimum time before you can build a second new stadium at one club or is it just down to the board if they think its worth it? Fourteen seasons at my new/newish stadium maxed capacity upgrades and 99% attendance. Board dont want to know.
If you have lots of money they will normally do it eventually. It’s very arbitrary though. Sometimes they do it quickly, sometimes they don’t do it at all.
Watching this while playing a career with no badge and no club at the beginning.
I enabled all leagues so Z's face froze every other time I've clicked on continue.
I endure it, cause pain addiction definitely is the reason we are playing this game. 😅

speaking of FM being rigged, I brought in a Portuguese wonderkid as my future striker, who gets roughly 30 minutes a match and plays in the early stages of cups. So, he's basically the number two option for me, since I play with one forward system, and this kid is not going to be a world beater, he's a good quality EPL forward, and for some reason he got it in his head that Man City would give him more play time. Like, dude you think you're gonna beat out the seven forwards they have (currently in my save) to start? You're not better than my starting forward who is a lower rated player than Haaland. It's just dumb because my main option is 30 so the Portuguese kid was probably going to get a lot more play time, especially since he can play on the wings. But hey I got 50 million for him so he helped be pay to upgrade my defense, and in my save Pep left Man City in 2026 and it's been a manager carousal there since, so the kid just screwed his career
In a way its fun to watch your players making wrong decision and look how their career progresses from there onwards.

In my save with Sporting CP I went 26 games without a loss in the Portuguese league, only to lose at home to Belenenses SAD, the club in the bottom of the league, this is FM.

I watch this video and it just makes me want to make a new football manager game. The processing of players and the amount of time it takes to process leagues and scores could be done far more efficiently. I am hopeful that next year's version of the game doesn't have this issue as it's sad that lots of people export the data from FM to some other tool to search or formulate on statistics because FM is entirely too slow.
Imagine a game where FM meets(Football), City Skylines 1(Simulation of lots of entities), meets Hearts of Iron 4(strategic complexity and multiple pathways), meets Crusader Kings 3(character/dynasty evolution). That level of creativity and story flow would probably ruin society as a whole.

Make the game less complicated? Watering down any form of media is a bad move for the long-term fans. It will appeal to the masses more, expanding the product's reach and bringing in new fans, making more money, etc, but the original niche audience typically doesn't handle the change well. The Assassin's Creed games are the proof in the pudding. They're barely even have a focus on stealth and assassinations anymore because stealth can be difficult and frustrating when you get caught. More people would rather go around and slaughter groups of enemies than sneak around and possibly fail the mission when you get caught.

You really surprised me with the whole “finding FM tough to get into” do you think this has anything to do with football not necessarily being the sport that was the first sport you grew up with? I ask because having lived in the States I initially found your football a little confusing but now it all makes sense, well, more or less. All the best. D.

Funny enough, I didn't come from fifa or anything like that. I came from Eastside Hockey Manager by the same people. But they gave up on Hockey so I was forced to migrate to Soccer/Football. I didn't know anything about it, but I needed my manager fix. RIP Eastside Hockey Manager.

Does FM keep up with roster updates, injuries, form, etc?
Original mode starts in the summer. There is now a real world mode where all real transfers happen when they did in real life while you start in the summer. But there is no real time updates, which is also impossible when you are already in your save as then it is a different universe anyway already.
@@thargoff He mentioned you could play whole seasons out at a time. So I figure everyone gets the rosters as of X date, then any changes from there need to be manually input, right?
@@therealking6202 You are in control of your chosen club and the AI controls other team’s management, including transfers.
@@therealking6202 you control your club, transfers, tactics, matches, etc. the AI controls the other teams. (You can also play online with friends, then you control your respective clubs, and the AI the rest of the database).

To tell how hard Football Manager has been for me, I let my experience talk by itself: I bought the game 2-3 years in a row and every year I was not able to get through the pre-season friendlies and start the regular season. The amount of informations and things I could do was so overwhelming that I just gave up.
Then one year (I guess it was 2018) I had a few friends playing the game and I gave myself another chance. And I was glad I did, because I just couldn't stop playing from that time on.
So, yes, this game is freaking hard.

If you are a hardcore football fan it's not that hard to get into.... everything simulates what you already know about your favorite team.... cheezing the game however takes years to learn + some type of mad scientist mindset.
After I watched this video and got to the part with ''FM is cheating''...I got FM'd back to back games against the bottom of the league teams. Both scoring at exactly 90+1 with the same header goal in matches I dominated that ended 1-0. I quit the game after that for the day because screw that.

They should really make a beginner and pro version, because this is my first year on FM and while I did appreciate the ease of getting into it at first, its now really annoying that I can win the cup with a team in the 3rd division as if im saarbrucken. This would mean that newcomers have an even easier time integrating but also lets them go ham on the pro version making it as hard as real life managing.
You get to decide the difficulty.m though. Go to the Cambodian 3rd division and become a dynasty. You will find that is difficult loll

I don't buy the game every year, I buy it every two or three years (coming up on 4 now, I need FM24 as I'm still playing FM20).
However, I use the pre-game editor to restructure the welsh leagues (7 leagues, 3 tiers, 128 teams) and give them real prize money and a TV deal, then as players transfer/run out their contracts/retire in the real world, I just move them to a top flight welsh team (so Bale, Messi, Saurez, Mane, Haaland, Bellingham, et al, are all in the welsh top flight at the start of any save, making my "parc-(sic)-to-prem" career saves tougher every season).

I had an offer of 3.5M + 2M add ons from Blackburn sat 12th in the PL. for my first choice CB, also a national team player of my Norway team,.
But he decided that the move wasn*t worth it.
I can*t think of a single Norwigian who would think staying in the Norwigian leagues instead of moving to the Prem.
Anyway he is playing really well for me, but now my 17 year old Polish 5 star Centerback wwith amazing Jumping and arial ability is doomed to be the 3rd choice in that position.
Also this happens so often, but the I am usually challanging for Europe and can understand it.
