Ride Along With The New Police Team Patrolling Downtown Las Vegas

- A new team of police officers is out patrolling the 18b Arts District in downtown Las Vegas. Problem oriented policing or the P.O.P team for short is not a new method of policing, but it is relatively new to the deputy city marshals and it is brand new to the arts district. Earlier this year, the team started on the Fremont Street Experience. Now, their team has expanded to the arts district.
One of the team's goals is to interact with and build relationships with the local businesses, residents, and the homeless community. We rode along with the officers to see how they are going to make DTLV a safer place for everyone in the community to live, work and play.

they just shooed away 3 homeless people, shopped for clothes, told a business owner they cant help him with his graffitti, and wrote a crash report. dont act like they actually did anything positive

They aren't either, lol. They are only doing it for the camera, haha. Bet they hardly get out on during the day in hot weather.
They are out there Tuesday through Friday 11:00am to 9:00pm. You can find them in the Arts District or on the Fremont Street Experience.

They do too! Both LVMPD and the deputy city marshals have jurisdiction and work together in downtown Las Vegas.

I did this as security in an art district in LA. Dealt with the dumbest shit over and over. They are lucky to have actual LEO's doing this, at least until those officers get burned out and stop caring.

This sounds great, but I'm trying to understand the difference between the Marshals and Metro. Why do we need both? Wouldn't this cost the taxpayer more money to have two different departments doing the same job?
I thought that too. They both have separate command and admin staff, separate stations, be better to combine it all.

What's the difference between these deputy marshalls and the LVPD?
LVMPD has jurisdiction in both city and county. They serve as the primary law enforcement agency. City Marshals only have jurisdiction on City Property.
They have the same level of training. LVMPD has jurisdiction over the whole county while the deputy city marshals have jurisdiction in the city of Las Vegas. For the most part, the marshals deal with matters on city property-parks, community centers, city hall, etc., but they will respond if needed outside of that.

LVMPD is the Main LE Agency for Clark County to include Las Vegas. Las Vegas City Marshals are Police Officers for the actual city Of Las Vegas and have City Wide Jurisdiction but their main areas of responsibility are City Property to include Fremont Street and Arts District.
I’ve lived here for 38 years, these Marshall’s are useless, useless, useless. They cleaned these 2 up, most of them have food stains all over them and couldn’t care less what’s going on around them- or they are as badge heavy as can be.

How about making them look like police officers instead of SWAT or military solders? If you want to get into community based policing and win over the public look the part. I’m glad to see officers get to know their community they serve and get out of their vehicles too. Personal contacts and associations between the police and the community are beneficial for both.

Yes, they are! They are the same level of police officers as Metro, Henderson Police, North Las Vegas police, etc. They go through the same training.
Police Officers for The City Of Las Vegas. Here’s a short cut, whenever you hear Police, Sheriff, Constable, Marshal it all means the same thing, Law Enforcement Authority.
What are they? Police or US Marshall? Why call themselves Marshall if they’re just city cops?
The Las Vegas City Marshals are state-certified law enforcement officers, and yes they are police officers. Las Vegas has what's called the City Marshals who are a combination of security officers, park rangers, and more. The definition of marshal is "a city law officer entrusted with particular duties." You'll also find them patrolling Fremont and dealing with problems there.
They're different than LVMPD because while it's called Metro Police, it acts more as a sheriff department as its entrusted with all of Clark County, including search and rescue, and is headed by a Sheriff.
