  • It was an honor to have spoken with Olympian and track & field legend Gail Devers at Athlos. The 100m/100mh champion failed to give her Mount Rushmore of track and field legends (she tried her best 🤣). However, she still gave flowers to the athletes that came before, the current generation and shared her thoughts on the evolution of women in and out of the sport.

About Me: I’ve been working in the track and field media space for over a decade. I went from track athlete to student-athlete reporter, to full-time journalist, with both my degrees in Sports Journalism from Michigan State University while competing on the varsity team.
I’ve worked with the best of the best in track and field and other mainstream sports at events like the NBA Draft, Millrose Games, Prefontaine Classic and Junior Olympics for The Players' Tribune, USA Track and Field, World Athletics, MileSplit and more. I've also gotten the opportunity to cover bucket list events like the 2024 Olympic Games and 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials.
I understand the importance of telling stories the right way and I’m closing the gap by sharing different perspectives and spotlighting all types of people, athletes and journeys.
About Speak Your Piece: An platform that creates a safe space for myself, people and athletes alike to talk about everything from unpopular opinions, life stories, lessons learned, things observed and more within the spaces of sports, culture and twenty somethings.

    I will separate the men and women---sprinters only. (1. SAFP, 2. Fast-Elaine, 3. Allyson, 4. VCB) (1. Bolt, 2. Lewis, 3. Jesse, 4. Michael Johnson)

Devers is off base here. The pay disparities she alludes to do not exist in track and field. The ones that do exist come down to dollars and cents. Not many people pay attention to the WNBA because it is an inferior product. The same goes for women’s boxing. Other salary differences are often attributable to career and lifestyle choices, not a conspiracy to short change women.

@@pierspim4341 There are pay disparities between men and women in track and field. Whether that comes from certain athletes who are talented going without contracts, or your favorite athlete being lowballed for a brand deal. Or how World Athletics earns all this money off the athletes name, image and likeness yet they only get a fraction of that money is “earnings”. It’s about time track and field can be a career for all and not just the 1% who found the “right” agent and went pro at the “right” time.
