I'll be 60 on Friday and when I was 22, I was stationed in Mainz Germany in 1982 with the American Army. Of course, I drank Bud and Miller and whatever American slop they served while I was in College before my posting in Germany. Once I tasted German beer (mostly Pilsners) I was hooked on it. Your description of Jever and Flensburger pilsners is exactly why many of us who were posted in Germany had to brew our own beers once we returned to the States. It is more than just the rice, corn and corn syrup the big American Brewers put in their beers (I actually was stationed in Golden, CO, attending the Colorado School of Mines, and spent a good amount of time at the Coors Brewery); it's the care and the dedication to detail the Germans adhere to when they brew their beers. When I returned from 1994-97 to Frankfurt .. they had actually improved their brewing to include brew pubs and my god was that good stuff. thanks for your reviews, keep up the good work. Best tasting german pils among the more known ones. Fantastic hops pils taste! Very generous amount of its significant grassy hops bitterness that's so fresh. Just amazing. Best wishes! EDIT: A little bit too high glass choice in my opinion. I like when the foam should be just above the edge of the glass on a pils :)
Jever Pils was consumed in vast quantities by the airmen of Royal Air Force Jever back in the 1950s until 1960 - when the station/airfield was handed back to the GAF. As an ex-RAF serviceman, I had more than my fill back in the 50s. Indeed, together with friends, we re-visited the town in 1998 and then again in 2010. The town is full of beautiful buildings and delightful streets - the Jever Schloss is a former palace and well worth visiting.
Good review mate. Ordered this on Tuesday after watching your review - totally agree, best pilsner I have tried. Crisp, fresh and very drinkable. Will definitely be my go to pilsner. it’s Great we can access these quality beers online - considering the sad offerings we have in our major supermarkets.

Hi there! I really do like your reviews as they are well-balanced and honest, as far as I can tell. And yes, Jever is a really good choice! I live in the most western part of Germany where you're used to Altbier and Kölsch. But I always chose Jever whenever we went to a nearby club with live concerts. It definitely is a Pilsner for the "experienced user", but as you already said: it manifests the true meaning of Pils with its bitter soul. That's what I love about it, it does not even want to be the beer for everyone. Nevertheless you're right, it should be available everywhere in Europe for the same
Have you tried out Hoepfner before? They have a great line of beers, I reckon they are my favourite I've tried here so far. Especially the Kräusen, which is like a hybrid between a Hefe-Weizen and a Pils, but they are all brill.
Jever is a typical beer as they drink it in the north, very sharp and bitter by the hops with lots of alpha acids. At the seaside with the salty beer it fits but in the rest of Germany noone drinks it.
@@TheBierHooligan Yes, you can get it everywhere but only in bottles because it´s not so often hat people as for that beer if they are not from the coast.
@@josephmacaluso1353 Yes. In the northpart they drink Pils, in the southpart Helles. The more you come to the north the more bitter the Pils is. Pils is brewed with Pilsener malt and Helles with munich malt, Pils has stronger & bitter hops and Helles more soft & smoothy hops. Each typ of beer fits to the land and the clima where it´s brewed. In the north at the coast the air is salty and the fish they eat also, so a bitter beer fits perfect.
stephan breme well are the pils different? I have found some variation. As far as southern beers, I believe they add some Munich malt for more malty flavor. I have also read that Upper Franconians prefer their lagers slightly drier and more hoppy than the Old Bavarian style. Still I think someone used to a very bitter pils from the north would not think a Franconian beer was strongly hopped in comparison.
@@josephmacaluso1353 Yesterday i had a franconian Lager Hell from Tucher and yes, it was very hoppy & malty, more intensiv than the bavarian lagers (they are thinner but more drinkable).

The regular price for a crate of 24 0.33l bottles is around 16.99€. When it's on offer, it costs around 10-11 Euro.

The Bier Hooligan that Kolsch last night did not need any nucleated glass I tell you that.
