Takes me back, I remember hitting up US Amps for a build and the guy on the phone invited me to visit. I dropped in and was shown around, met some techs working on a table full of amps, bought my stuff and left. Different time, but very cool experience.

These Down 4 Sound amps are very decent amps. I have them in my most recent system in my Tundra. I like them. I have no problems with them at all. My only complaint is the base knob is way to bright. I have a piece of electrical tape over it so it doesn't blind me at night time.
So excited JP and team came out with some stuff and I had a feeling they'd be a hidden gem. Think I was right. This is going to be what people only want to run
I'm not super stoked on most of the car audio social media guys, but I installed the jp234 in a boat and it was louder than a boat with $25k worth of wetsounds. I just got someone to order the jp23 + jp234 combo for their low rider. These amps are definitely best bang for the buck right now!
Do you remember the old Orion amps? I saw one at a pawshop that still had the pastic wrap around it! New old stock. I remember those amps in the early 90s
Big D as always GREAT content thanks!! Williston Audio Labs I must say, I like you but my wallet indeed hates you lol. This will be the third amp I've bought in just the past 2 & a half months that you've reviewed. (Though I had been looking at this JP23 before you reviewed it) JP really hit the nail on the head when he chose to utilize that bass knob. For me that's one of the key selling points, that & while its $299 it is almost too good to pass up. Crazy thing is I haven't even hooked up the Trauma Concussion 3k amp I bought yet. The Smart3 Taramps has been consistently doing a great job.
Love to see like very brief quarterly recap from you! I try to watch and like all your videos I can. Be great to see each quarter, have running WINNER list on greatest value/budget option (single vs multi-channel), greatest quality, etc. Your through reviews awesome, but giving 60 second or less recaps, comparing results across amps, and making recommendations based on similar criteria like I listed above. For example, I’d love to see your recommendations on best entire sound system below $500, below $750, below $1000, below $1500, etc. Keep up outstanding work

I myself pre-order this amp and I'm loving it but will say the remote gain light is blindingly bright at night which has made me reconsider where I'm mounting it !!! Would like to see the .5 results since there is a option for a .5 warranty !!! Thanks Big D as always with the good info !!
Great vid although there is an epidemic of companies pumping out the same old out of patent class D circuits with a different case/logo. Other than the old reliables, RF, Kicker and JL, no one is engineering any thing new anymore.
This has been going on for years now. Car Audio technology as a whole is really piss poor & has been stuck in the same ol rut for years. Mostly a bunch of rebadged copies circulating the market.
I'm not a fan of JP at all but it looks like he put his brand on a decent amp here. Other than the cheezy stickers on the caps (those things are definitely going to come off and catch fire in there) it looks like a great deal. We'll see how much the market corrects the price as the demand increases after we all watch this video 😄
Love the fan I’ve added fans to so manny amps it’s great to see them with a fan! Even if you don’t think it needs it at least it’s got it . Also if the amp don’t have a chance to get hot then it’s gonna last a lot longer!
I was actually thinking of getting these for my subs they are MTX Terminator TNE212D 12 inch sub 2000 watt peak Do you think this combination would be good?
@WeAreWatching Yu they did but I wanted to watch big D. He’s unbiased as it gets. On the sundown video, it showed that the amp put out 2600ish watts at 1 ohm and only pulled 211 amps of current. Big d test showed that the amp isn’t as efficient as it seemed. Sundown test also shows that it puts out over 3k certified at .5 ohm. Big d test showed that it didn’t even count up clean .8 certified.
@@wal yeah I should've re-worded... See which amps stay out of Protect... I mean theres always a risk of destroying something but how many amps have you tested regularly (not even for TH-cam purpose) below rated resistance and haven't shown us? Just make it a whole series

And SoundQubed. I have the SoundQubed 1250 and looks just like the skar, bass knob and all. Now, wondering if this D4S bass knob with clipping light etc would work on a skar or SoundqQubed? I seen a ds18 bass knob that looks almost identical to this D4S bass knob also, but no temp light. Might buy a ds18 knob to see if it works(shows clipping etc) with my SoundQubed amp, would be nice to have voltage displayed and clipping in one knob.
@@rotwiler7674 be sure & let us know if it works. I know the SKV Skar amp remotes w/clipping light will work on the Skar RP-2000.1D amp & the clipping light will work flawlessly. Seems not too many ppl try this. I want to see if a bass remote with clipping light will work on my Trauma Concussion 3k amp. I sure hope clip lights soon become an industry standard on all amps. Its too cheap of a feature to include with an amp & very beneficial if you listen to different types of music at very loud volumes all the time like I do.
@@itdoesntmatterwhatyourname6128 So looking at this remote knob, has temperature light etc, so may not be able to work with the SoundQubed(may work for clipping, but temp etc wouldn't work, so no reason to spend more)which I am pretty sure is same as a RP skar amp. But I did buy a DS18 knob, looks like this D4S but just has the clipping light and voltage reading in blue light. Waiting on it in mail, will let you know if it works. The SoundQubed 1250 amp I have looks like the rp1200 skar and both the SQubed and Skar amps have identical bass knobs, with clipping light. I just thought if I can get the voltage also, would be kind of nice. I know you need the amp to support the clipping light on the bass knob to work. I am only trying this because I want the voltage displayed on a compact knob.
Also, after having this SoundQubed amp I found it so easy to setup by having a clipping light. Took me minutes and been flawless past year. Some will say they are not accurate like traditional ways, but I found it pretty accurate. Pushing (2)500watt rms kappa 1200w subs in my truck, I am overpowering them at 600 watts @1ohm each and hits 800watts when max and bass hits hard and subs have survived the abuse for 12+ months.
@@rotwiler7674 i just installed my new Sony head unit in my car on Christmas Eve & found out a nice lil feature that it has... It has a digital voltage display feature on the screen of the headunit. (Sony doesn't even advertise this great feature which I think is odd) I've checked it, it's very accurate & responds well to drops w/hard bass. Just thought I'd mention it to you since it seems voltage is important to you. My Sony is the DSX-GS80 single din model. It sounds great on my mids/highs, nice power.

It's obvious these amp companies are hip to youtubers Dyno test amplifiers, so they will start to make them at least do the numbers they are rated. This is a good thing! I'm however going to start checking for amplifiers LONGEVITY after being played extensively for a while, Let's see how well they hold up then.

i love my jp23v1.5, been seeing .5 static since i bought it! only things i can say bad about it are the volt meter is BRIGHT ASF, gonna take apart knob and solder a resistor or pot between power and led. and the fan is very loud BUT.....with 2300rms on hand you wont hear it unless your volume is super low.
Hey can I ask a question? Love your vids, helps more than you can imagine. I was wondering why you have such a jump on those Savard's? Wired to 1ohm but stayed mostly up at 5-6ohm. I never seen a (consistent) rise like that. I had the first set of prototype Savard 10's, they were really nice, great people too. I would really appreciate the info. Thanks again!
I agree bout the stickers and before I carry on bout anything else I just want to say thanks for always being honest and unbiased. I wish it had a little more headroom but over all I think I will need a couple of them. Im so used to using the Rockford with constant power im always weary of switching amps out none the less think strapping them would do the trick. Great video big D n thanks as always for it! Thanks for the comment. I absolutely tortured this amp (you'll see in next vid) and it just kept kicking. Although I didn't mention in the video, I did purchase this amp, although D4S did mention sending me one a while back, it never happened, so I felt you guys would want to see a review from my perspective. Question, do you have poly mat lining in your 4-8’s box ? I used spay glue and lined in the inside of my ported box for my 2-12’s and it made the bass sound a lot smoother with less port noise.
Do you use a scope to set the gains on the amp before doing the dyno test? If I join the patron do you go more into the behind the scenes like sending a sweep frequency into the amp and looking for roll off at different frequencies? You can get some pretty good free software to look at thd.
I love what jp is doing and all BUT what separates this amp from every other 2k+ amp out there for less money?? I mean from cab to skar, from audiopipe to wolfram what's the selling point for us to pay the premium? I myself dont mind, as I said before I like what jps doing. My u15s came from him and didnt second guess the few extra bucks spent. But with every body offering a similar amp at a lower price(sure some of those are preorder prices) what makes the average buyer spend the extra money. I love the bass knob and the look, it's also definitely a solid build. But with the choice out there I just wonder ya know...

Random question I know you tested the lanzar 50c. Have you ever tested an opti2200 or opti2500? I ran the opti2200 in 2ohm mono all-day every day till I was taking the amp out of my car and hit the power and ground wires together and that fried it. Was just wondering what power they did

Just remember, 0.5 on Dyno (resistive loads) is not the same (more brutal) than 0.5 on speakers (reactive load).
You can put a small strip of window tint on it, or rattle can a bit of smoke tint. Either should knock brightness down to neat level..🤙

@@wal yeah I should've re-worded... See which amps stay out of Protect... I mean theres always a risk of destroying something but how many amps have you tested regularly (not even for TH-cam purpose) below rated resistance and haven't shown us? Just make it a whole series

My first thought was that reminds me of my Skar RP. Is there any way of knowing if it's built by the same factory?
And SoundQubed. I have the SoundQubed 1250 and looks just like the skar, bass knob and all. Now, wondering if this D4S bass knob with clipping light etc would work on a skar or SoundqQubed? I seen a ds18 bass knob that looks almost identical to this D4S bass knob also, but no temp light. Might buy a ds18 knob to see if it works(shows clipping etc) with my SoundQubed amp, would be nice to have voltage displayed and clipping in one knob.
@@rotwiler7674 be sure & let us know if it works. I know the SKV Skar amp remotes w/clipping light will work on the Skar RP-2000.1D amp & the clipping light will work flawlessly. Seems not too many ppl try this. I want to see if a bass remote with clipping light will work on my Trauma Concussion 3k amp. I sure hope clip lights soon become an industry standard on all amps. Its too cheap of a feature to include with an amp & very beneficial if you listen to different types of music at very loud volumes all the time like I do.
@@itdoesntmatterwhatyourname6128 So looking at this remote knob, has temperature light etc, so may not be able to work with the SoundQubed(may work for clipping, but temp etc wouldn't work, so no reason to spend more)which I am pretty sure is same as a RP skar amp. But I did buy a DS18 knob, looks like this D4S but just has the clipping light and voltage reading in blue light. Waiting on it in mail, will let you know if it works. The SoundQubed 1250 amp I have looks like the rp1200 skar and both the SQubed and Skar amps have identical bass knobs, with clipping light. I just thought if I can get the voltage also, would be kind of nice. I know you need the amp to support the clipping light on the bass knob to work. I am only trying this because I want the voltage displayed on a compact knob.
Also, after having this SoundQubed amp I found it so easy to setup by having a clipping light. Took me minutes and been flawless past year. Some will say they are not accurate like traditional ways, but I found it pretty accurate. Pushing (2)500watt rms kappa 1200w subs in my truck, I am overpowering them at 600 watts @1ohm each and hits 800watts when max and bass hits hard and subs have survived the abuse for 12+ months.
@@rotwiler7674 i just installed my new Sony head unit in my car on Christmas Eve & found out a nice lil feature that it has... It has a digital voltage display feature on the screen of the headunit. (Sony doesn't even advertise this great feature which I think is odd) I've checked it, it's very accurate & responds well to drops w/hard bass. Just thought I'd mention it to you since it seems voltage is important to you. My Sony is the DSX-GS80 single din model. It sounds great on my mids/highs, nice power.

... Less effecient than the smart 3, costs more, and has jp's name on it I'll pass... When the smart 3 had a 72% + effeciency you said that was bad .. but d4s does 71% and it's not bad... Come on man you're better than that. Is it a bad amp. No. is it good? meh. I agree it looks like a skar rp series
70 plus percent at 1 ohm is expected with Class D. The Smart 3 is still tough to beat, I agree with that 👍

Depends on your charging system. May be ok with 140A or larger alt and 1/0 OFC

It's obvious these amp companies are hip to youtubers Dyno test amplifiers, so they will start to make them at least do the numbers they are rated. This is a good thing! I'm however going to start checking for amplifiers LONGEVITY after being played extensively for a while, Let's see how well they hold up then.

i love my jp23v1.5, been seeing .5 static since i bought it! only things i can say bad about it are the volt meter is BRIGHT ASF, gonna take apart knob and solder a resistor or pot between power and led. and the fan is very loud BUT.....with 2300rms on hand you wont hear it unless your volume is super low.
Such awesome gear out there these days for crazy cheap compared to the old school stuff.
Hey can I ask a question? Love your vids, helps more than you can imagine. I was wondering why you have such a jump on those Savard's? Wired to 1ohm but stayed mostly up at 5-6ohm. I never seen a (consistent) rise like that. I had the first set of prototype Savard 10's, they were really nice, great people too. I would really appreciate the info. Thanks again!
I agree bout the stickers and before I carry on bout anything else I just want to say thanks for always being honest and unbiased. I wish it had a little more headroom but over all I think I will need a couple of them. Im so used to using the Rockford with constant power im always weary of switching amps out none the less think strapping them would do the trick. Great video big D n thanks as always for it! Thanks for the comment. I absolutely tortured this amp (you'll see in next vid) and it just kept kicking. Although I didn't mention in the video, I did purchase this amp, although D4S did mention sending me one a while back, it never happened, so I felt you guys would want to see a review from my perspective. It was difficult to find negatives about this amp, hopefully it's reliability is as good as my initial tests indicate. Happy New Year and thanks again!

Question, do you have poly mat lining in your 4-8’s box ?
I used spay glue and lined in the inside of my ported box for my 2-12’s and it made the bass sound a lot smoother with less port noise.

Do you use a scope to set the gains on the amp before doing the dyno test? If I join the patron do you go more into the behind the scenes like sending a sweep frequency into the amp and looking for roll off at different frequencies? You can get some pretty good free software to look at thd.

I love what jp is doing and all BUT what separates this amp from every other 2k+ amp out there for less money?? I mean from cab to skar, from audiopipe to wolfram what's the selling point for us to pay the premium? I myself dont mind, as I said before I like what jps doing. My u15s came from him and didnt second guess the few extra bucks spent. But with every body offering a similar amp at a lower price(sure some of those are preorder prices) what makes the average buyer spend the extra money. I love the bass knob and the look, it's also definitely a solid build. But with the choice out there I just wonder ya know...
It’s all choices friend. I just test the amps and show them off the best I can. You’ll have to decide which one is best for you

Random question I know you tested the lanzar 50c. Have you ever tested an opti2200 or opti2500? I ran the opti2200 in 2ohm mono all-day every day till I was taking the amp out of my car and hit the power and ground wires together and that fried it. Was just wondering what power they did

What its identical to is the soundqubed s1-2250 the guts are identical down to the 4 caps layed out 2 diagonally in both directions
