I’ve loaded over a 100 pounds of TSS in the last three seasons. I’ve made and test all my own load data. Done all my own testing. I have twenty loads and five that I really enjoy. Stay with alliance steel smokeless power for any load over 1 0Z and 1,200fps to 1,500fps is pretty solid speeds. I’ve loaded duplex in 8x9, 7x10, 6x9, Tx9, Tx6, then in straight TSS18 loads in 10, 9, 8, 7, and 6s and I’ve loaded most popular bismuth and steel loads and compared them all. I pluck and dissect all my ducks and geese. Stick to one speed and cut your wads all the way if you like your gun and chokes us LBC or TPS and run a rugged choke if you do anything crazy like T shot it will crease your chokes. pattern your TSS because it doesn’t pattern well with tight steel chokes or at high speeds.
A head shot hit with TSS18 9 shot will easily drop a goose at 60 yards! Now straight body hits at 60 yards on big honkers with no wing hit probably not! If your pump speed 1700fps it will but your patterns will be crap. If I had to pick one duplex it would be 7x10 and if I had to pick one straight load it would be 9 shot. Don’t expect miracles! if you don’t pattern don’t just assume your choke will complement the TSS load. It’s a lot of money to waste not to pattern every loan!

As much as I try for the head, I hit body sometimes. This is why I venture on the side of overkill. Hence the use of now TSS and 10ga. Lol
I didn’t find a TSS pellet by the way during cleaning. These 7.5’s are nuts! I’ve got 7, 7.5, 8, and 9’s now.

I’ll out perform your 10ga using number tss18 9 shot in 12ga 2 3/4 shell running 1 1/2 oz running 1300 fps. It hurt to say that because i hunted turkey with a single shot 10ga for over twenty years. TSS18 number 9 shot has more penetration at 40 yards then steel BB shot. Watch the link on my second post and you’ll see that nothing beat the density of TSS and the small size equals penetration for some reason people have such a hard time wrapping their head around it. I ran one ounce of 7 shot and half ounce of 10 shot and its straight kills every thing running 1450 fps. The only thing i would change in that duplex load is changing the tens to nines. All my TSS loads run 1 1/2 ounce for everything witch most would call over kill but 7 shot only has 180 pellet in an ounce when 10 shot has 496. I killed a GPS tracked female mallard last season at 63 yards stone dead with the 7 under 10 duplex. It’s a straight smoker and btw you won’t find 7 shot inside your waterfowl unless your shooting honkers at 60 plus yards because they pass all the way through the duck or geese. The 32.5 grains of steel powder pushes the 1 1/2 load of TSS at 1300is fps and the patterns can’t be beat! I’ve gone as far as 35 grains of steel power with 1 5/8 oz load but i don’t see anything upside unless you wan’t more recoil. Of course I load 10ga and i shoot 8X9 duplex of 2 5/8 oz for turkey but why bother because its just not needed nor is an 1.5oz for a duck or goose but pattern density is awesome.

Welcome to the club buddy 😊 The #8's compare to Lead #3's or steel #1's. Yields 1.25" of penetration into ballistic gel at 111 yards when propelled at 1430 fps. Don't be afraid to go smaller. If you want a decent duplex tss/steel load on BPI load of the week. Only reason to us a duplex is to spread tss or just use a skeet tube with tss😂

    • @avidwaterfowler7522
      @avidwaterfowler7522  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I see the penetration studies, but 1.25” isn’t enough for me to be satisfied. These big honkers I get into here sometimes have 1.5” thick Brest meat. I always venture in the side of overkill, hence the tss and 10ga use. Lol

I hear ya. But under 50 yards, you won't notice a difference, and your pattern density goes up. I'm now rolling some 10 ga 3oz tss turkey loads for spring 😅 wasteful on tss but fun to watch them roll😊

I’ve watched several videos on loading TSS for Duck / Goose Hunting and from what I’ve seen that if you Duplex your TSS with Steel you’ll get a better / more uniform but less constricted Pattern. And if you have to make a long shot the TSS will still pack a PUNCH 🤛 at farther distances. I saw one guy using .5 #9 TSS / .5 #4 or #1 Steel Shot for Ducks / Geese.

I can’t get behind the tss and steel duplex. TSS is 2.5 times as dense. When I first took tss out hunting I could believe how much the leads were reduced compared to steel. They get to the same destination at a different time.

Really enjoying your content. I’m a diehard upland hunter. Started reloading tss #8 for my 28 gauge 3 years ago for late season wild pheasants. And have been phasing out my 12 gauge lead #4 ever since. Right now I have been shooting both a 7/8 and a 1 ounce and find them to be stout, so I’m going to be experimenting with some steel/tss duplex loads this off season. I’d be excited to see what you come up with to get the patterns you desire.

TSS aka Tungsten Super Shot makes a three inch 20 gauge the equal to take passing shots at long range that saves your shoulder from booming 10 gauge!!!

I will never go back to anything else, TSS rocks. Even the 15ccm works, it's so good to stone a duck with one shot. I will say I have been running long shot for the 20 and 12 gauge. I will try the lil gun for my son's 20 gauge for Turkey.

It’s truly amazing. If you haven’t witnessed it first hand, it’s borderline hard to believe. Then you have people talking sh*t on on 3,4, and 5 dollar a piece shells like there isn’t an advantage…

@@avidwaterfowler7522 You can't beat TSS it's better than lead. They are so easy to make. I told all my buddies I would never buy duck shells again. TSS IS KING. It's so nice to see other hunters are doing the same thing.

Try 1/2 oz TSS and 1/2 oz #2 steel in your 20 and see the same results. I use 3/8 oz TSS 8.5's under #2 steel in my 28ga and smoke honkers at 50yds regularly. TSS is magic.

Yesterday morning dove hunting I had 4 geese come into the pond I was hunting around. I had my 28ga and I thought to myself: "I need a TSS load for emergency geese".

@@pevtsovy Works amazing on the largest waterfowl. I shot my swan this year with a 28ga and never felt under gunned. With TSS loads you will exceed the range and power of a 10 gauge loaded with steel.

Great day.. Haven't tried tss yet. Like you I've heard of geese being takin at 100 plus yards. Crazy. Wish the price would drop. Seen some advertised 100 bucks for 10 shots. Nuts. My favorite duck load is a 1 ounce in a 12ga.
