    There are quite a few kooky acting channels on TH-cam here, and I have to say, I am so glad to have found your classes first. Straight, direct and to the point with no fluff, or over the top acting tips. I really appreciate all of your help and techniques. Everything you say makes complete sense and I now feel that I am completely understanding of what is needed from within me, to become a great actor. Thank you again, I know classes aren't cheap. I am a floral designer that has worked very hard over the years through different apprenticeships, and I am always hesitant on giving my knowledge and understanding of design concepts away for free.

I'm an animator and an amateur actor/director and have spent most of my life just observing how professionals do it, grasping at anything I could find along the way. These lessons are gold from where i am at the moment, (searching for an acting school) Art was too boring, boxing was too demanding, music was to revealing. I think i can make a career out of acting, and watching as many of your videos will be beneficial to my goal. My main weakness is ability to memorize a script over night. I hope i can overcome this mental obstacle, thanks for the great advice :)

      @thehellerapproach  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hello,
      Thank you for your support to the channel! This is a cold reading technique, meant to help actors come through in an audition that you perhaps got last minute, or when you are asked to switch roles last minute. When you have time to build a character and better prepare for a role or audition, you won't be reading, or holding your script. This cold reading technique is used weekly in a group lessons, and is a wonderful tool for our actors. We would love to answer more specific questions regarding acting. Please visit our website www.thehellerapproach.com and feel free to contact us.
      Cheers!

    I react differently in my daily life. I am always calm.I don't get angry and I can't recall when I cried last time. However, I am funny and always make people laugh.People say that you can be a good actor. Dear Ravi Kant,Thank you for subscription to the channel! Acting is not performing. We want the audience to connect with us, and they cannot do that when it's not real human behavior. Brad Heller teaches his students a reliable technique, and many of them have stretched emotionally because of it. The proper foundation and training will help you a lot. Have you every thought about acting lessons? You seem very interested in the craft.

    Jan,
    If you can't not find a school that works with the same foundations that we do, such as breathing the emotion and not thinking of something personal, reach out to us, we do offer Skype lessons that compliment actors schedules abroad. All the Best to you!

    Thank you! I have seen every video of yours, I am a young kid and I want to be a actor, I have a friend that has been in a movie and short films and I went to her movie premier, and the writer was there, and I got lucky that the writer divided that she REALLY wants me in the movie and asks at least twice a day if I am still going to try out for the movie, I have been in allot of plays and have no experience on a movie, short film, or even commercial.
    This is my first time maybe being in a movie, I am going to try out tomorrow or in two days for a roll and I will be playing a person that thinks they know everything, and try's to boast allot and impress people with how smart he is, however my character is not the brightest, and I think I am doing a alright job with it, but I think I can do better, I am asking your advice on how exactly I can pull this off.
    I am trying to take every single tid bit of advice you say, I have they heller approach down and I know it like the back of my hand, but I just don't know my character type, I don't know what type of person I act best at.
    I am not sure that I will make it into the movie but I will try as hard as I can, I will just try to act like what I am acting is just like real life but not over do it.
    Please help me within the next day because I would then have already tried out.

    What about cold readings where they give you a script and give you 30 seconds to a min to prepare? I’ve been on 2 auditions where they give me the script and say look it over and 40 secs later ok let’s go!! ?? Huh? How do you prepare for that

    • @thehellerapproach
      @thehellerapproach  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @MSICEPRINCESS901, one helpful hint would be to put yourself in the situation as if it was happening to you...ask yourself what you are feeling and thinking. That would be your emotion and objective. Say the name of the feeling, take a couple breaths, and then start thinking your objective. This is your prep during the minute you have - to give you the "vibe" of the behavior. Then, when you start the scene, just simply react to your scene partner, trusting that the exercise will carry you through the scene. Don't breathe when executing the scene...just react. This is a video where you can learn more about how to pick emotion and objective th-cam.com/video/iHxRFOFK31o/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps!

    I completely understand the technique very well great. My only question is that is this only a technique to study or an exercise like the foundation which. I do daily. I'm sorry not being slow jus wanted to know so I can pay more attention to this when that specific 5 min 10 page audition comes around. Thanks for the videos.

    This is great. Serious question here. No joke. I work everyday and hate my job. I have thought more and more about doing other "less risky" jobs. I'm in my 20's and have never acted before, but I have performed live before in front of entire schools back in the day. But more and more I just see myself acting. I feel like if I don't at least try it then I will have not fulfilled a dream. I cant really see myself doing anything else. I know there are thousands and millions of young adults out there who feel the same, so should I just take some classes and join them? I'm a bit at a loss but Idk what else to do. I've got a great work ethic. I learn fast and I have a great head on my shoulders. I have 0 strings to hold me back other than a small amount of anxiety, but I think that's normal. Thanks sorry so long. Maybe I can get a little advice an motivation. And please, don't troll. Just want some serious inquiries. :)

      You sound a lot like myself right now. I only just performed in my very first show ever (Macbeth, and it was WONDERFUL), but I have learned so much over these past few months. What I would tell you is that the biggest thing to do is to show up. Look up an acting class or some random audition or something, and then commit to going. You may wake up that morning and start to get cold feet, or say, "I don't know, maybe I won't do this today, I'm not feeling it." Don't listen, just go. You'll be glad you did, and you'll never get anywhere if you don't go. I would definitely recommend taking lessons if you can, because although you may have raw talent, classes will not just help you refine your skill but also give you more experience performing, and the more you do something, the better you get at it. Just put yourself out there, and things will start going your way, trust me. You just have to be willing to take that first step.
      I hope I helped some :)

    In a cold reading you get the script but as you present it during your audition can you add in words into the script ?
    for example : Original: "God. I'm Sorry!"
    Your version: "God. I'm So sorry!"
    Would the director care?

      It depends on the director usually. For something professional try to stay with on the script exactly as the script has it. Usually directors don't want you to change it because they have a vision and a plan and need for you to follow it. Also, other actors have cues. Some listen for the exact same words that are in the script and you could mess them up by changing things. My advice would be for an audition, stay on the script. If you get the part, then depending on what your doing, how much time you have, and who the director is, then you might have room to play with it and change some things later on. One thing my acting coach taught me is that nothing on a script is ever set in stone. Things can always change. Hope this helped:)

      The words aren't as important as your character and behavior! If you mess up a few words, don't worry about it and don't break character! Hope this helps! :)
