    It's nice to see there are still Proton outside of Malaysia.
    My dad used to have this car, but the previous owner have install a loud ricey ass pipe. When they go up hills, the 1.3L engine struggles a bit and the loud pipe makes absolutely 0 power.

    The Satria XLSi was marketed with the same bodykit for those who wanted the looks, without the insurance cost of the GTI....they were champagne coloured only .........and the GTI only came in silver......good if you get 2nd hand body parts, they're already the right colour! I've owned a GTI for 8 years now and put 350km on it every week on my work commute...all motorway and it's perfectly suited to it....but when you get on to the twisty bits the Lotus influence shines through. I first read about the GTI in the Malaysian Airlines inflight magazine in 1999, when I arrived in KL there was a brand new one sitting outside the hotel where I stayed, and I loved the look of it.........13 years later I got mine.

    • @workdesu
      @workdesu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alphatrion100 yes.. and also no..first gen satria is basically a rebadged colt but the 2nd gen satria (which the gti is based on) only share the platform but slightly different chassis (different rear end and some bit here and there)
      this satria gti has a reinforced chassis and suspension that was retuned by lotus (at that time owned by proton) which is what made the handling capability praised by many that easily outshine the colt..
      *but* power wise the colt came with a mivec engine variant that produce 170hp..while the gti only had a 1.8 with 138hp..its a quick and fun car but you wont have to worry about breaking any speed limit

    • @workdesu
      @workdesu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alphatrion100 there's also a more rare Satria R3 which serve as an end of production model for the GTi..its basically the gti on a lil bit of steroid and a special black paintjob
      they further reinforced the chassis with stich welds like rally cars and retuned the suspension for better handling character than the gti

    Stock, un-riced GTi's are starting to get really hard to find in Malaysia now. I'd say quite a lot are converted 1.6 or 1.3 Satria's that get listed as a GTi. They get stolen a fair bit too, as they're worth more as parts

    With a very good condition and stock, Second Hand buyer in Malaysia it can easily reach RM20,000 around 3,500 pound. Last time I wanted to own one, but not lucky enough to find 1 with a good condition. But then, I found this 1995 Proton Wira/ Persona, which is a FIA Homologated for Rally, the Wira 1.8Exi DOHC complete with Recaro seat, Momo Steering wheel, Momo gearknob and equipped with AAC wheels by BBS. Another gem in Malaysia. Same engine with the Satria GTI and Putra.

Since i’m in the turbo path, i swap it with 4g63t since that engine is readily available and replacement part of performances 4g93 is currently hard to source. So enjoy it. It's in the hot hatch category. Came out in yr 2000, considered then as a top sports car from proton. It really was ahead compared to other models of below 2 liter engine. With a 1.8 Liter engine , it only has 140 hp, 0-100kmh in 7.8 sec but the handling by Lotus on winding roads and race track was very good, tested around Sepang F1 Curcuit and till now has a strong base fan. Going to be a classic. Its difficult to find one in std form as most has been modified and swapped with Mitsubishi Evo 4G63 engine ( 280hp). A std used Proton Gti cost RM 25-30K now!! And its a rare thing to find. 5 yrs ago I was thinking to get a std one and let my WRX rests a bit, but prices has gone up from 15 to at least 25K for a top condition model.. Those who have one, you are very lucky and don't sell it .
