Great comment. These cloth belts rarely get featured on TH-cam. Your technique with the knife is great but one thing to be careful of is carry over between the two belts. Over time the green compound will end up getting carried over to the red belt... Best way to avoid this is to clean the blade with white spirit or low-odour turps between the two... Otherwise we end up with a green belt and a green/red belt... Hope that makes sense.

I bought the kit from work sharp. It came with these. The first time I didn't my kitchen knives it dulled them probably from too much pressure. I decided to give it another go today. Started on medium grit and ran them through to red and oh my word I've honestly never touched a knife that was as sharp as they are. And I thought I had some sharp knives before from my lansky system.

Nice! Nothing like a sharp knife. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the interesting video. Is there any reason why you put the grinding compound on the belt before putting it on the machine, I would have thought it would be easier to use the motor to turn the belt whilst you applied it? You forgot to use the screwdriver to even out the paste on the second belt, so its probably better to apply and use one belt at a time, so it does get forgotten.

You are right on both counts! The instructions said to apply it like a crayon so that's what I did for the first time. But now I apply it when the belt is on the motor.

I think it saves the compound if belt is stationary. When I use the belt cleaning block the belt eats it away a lot when it is moving.

@@artoturunen4816 just don't do it for more than a second or 2. and press lightly

Nice video man! I work in a kitchen so my knives get heavy use and I love my ken onion! I've tried tormek and wicked edge but I really liked this system better. I need this belt kit lol thanks for the info.

Appreciate it! Belt kit is awesome! Gets it to shaving sharp. I'm now evaluating to see if it's worthwhile getting it this smooth or I should stop at a coarser belt to keep some teeth on the edge.

I have wicked edge. Why do you prefer it over the wicked edge. What are you using on the wicked edge. Their diamond blades went into the garbage 🗑. I use chosen stones on wicked edge. Are you getting a better edge. Faster sharpening due to professional needs eg I might quickly touch up an edge on a hanging strop.

Good video, thank you for taking the time. I would have liked to see the knife cutting into the paper before the stropping to really demonstrate the "before and after" of how important it is to strop. Also, you didn't mention how you determined the angle you used for stropping. Was it the same angle the knife was sharpened at ??

You didn't work in the compound with the screwdriver on the 2nd belt. Was it not necessary?

The belts always seemed to dull my edges :( also i managed to trash both of them quite quickly... might buy a new set in the future

It took me a while to realize these need a very gentle touch. Only the barest pressure on the belts. I've done about 15 knives now and I see them lasting another 30.

In the progression order, I thought red compound was coarser than green compound

Not sure about color standards but in this case the green is coarser.

One of my belts ripped after 1 hour of use, they are really poor quality :/ better buy the leather belts

How does it do against thinner paper? I'm always impressed when I can slice thru phonebook paper!

I don’t think you applied enough compound or is it those waxy type of compound that you can’t even see when it applied to the strop
