This whole thing always rubbed me the wrong way, after everything Akira and Ryuji went through -especially Ryuji's near death experience- not ONE girl even gave them a friendship chocolate? Hell the persona 4 girls were kind enough to give chocolate to their group and those guys were bigger perverts than Ryuji, no wonder he's done with them.

But Ryuji’s wasn’t in first person, and it’s the only one where Ren talks, so that scene probably wasn’t meant for self-inserting. Basically, Ryuji was the only one that had Ren as an actual character instead of a method of self-projection. Coincidence???? Probably, but shush.

Well, it was obviously an exaggeration in case you couldn't tell dude/dudette.....my point was, these women are at least in their mid to late 20's. While its not old per say, its definitely an age gap. There is no way Takemi would have her own licence, practice and business and experience with med school and internship. I highly doubt she's that young. Anyway, my point was, the option to chose someone of the same sex would not have been a terrible thing, and would not have been that unusual compared to a 16 year old boy dating a teacher. Just like noone forces the relationships on you in the game, none would have to force those kinds on you either....cause i know the natural response for some of these people involves mistaking that someone is trying to "force homosexuality" into something. I also found it a bit odd in P3P how female protagonist romancing pre-teen boy and what ever it is that goes on between her and Aigis at the end of latter's social link was apparently ok, but female peers we're a no-go as anything other than friends. I know Japanese developers don't really feel the need to push status-quo on things like that in their games, but it would still be nice to have as an option, especially when they clearly tease the idea with some of the P5's dialogue-options.
Nah, no need to apologize. I did get a little defensive because this is a pretty touchy subject here in these comment sections. I havent actually played persona 3 yet, but i've coincidentally been really wanting to play it as of recent. So i plan on buying that and a psvita to play it on when I get the chance. I also found it strange how the dialogue was very hinty. Some people say it was "baity" but i think its just for comedic purpose. I remember there being something about a female prtagonist when i looked it up. I just thought it was just gonna be one of those lazy reskin things that some game companies do. I also heard that there was a preteen character, and like you said, thats kinda weird for her to romance such a person.
I hear you. It's shame how black and white lot of these conversations seem to have become, with people jumping the gun at critisism of any kind if it's directed at something they like and feel passionate about. I can see how it might feel a bit like half-measure though, when only female characters you can't romance are Velvet-twins and the prosecutor interrogating you, while closest we can get to dating guys is Joker throwing some vaguely flirty jokes at his male friends. The Portable version of 3 might take a bit time to get used if you've played 4 and/or 5 before hand, because it has a lot more archaic gameplay and presentation, but once you get past that, the story is well worth it. Also female protagonist is definitely not just a reskin in this case, but affects several things in how the story plays out and complitely mixes up the social links. Also though it is worth playing the game with both of them to see how much things change around, I personally prefer female MC, because she feels more proactive out of the two, with her you get more insight on your male party-members and overall I feel she has better social links.

Seeing how cold Yusuke is to the girls that hit on him, I'm 99% sure he didn't return the feelings of the poor soul that gave him chocolates. He probably also got various chocolates from different girls, simply because he's handsome and a young artist with a tragic backstory. I don't know if you are aware of how Valentines Day "works" in Japan and other parts of Asia... girls are very much pressured to give chocolates to most "close" workmates, to good friends that are not in a romantic relationship yet, etc. And of course, to the person they are actually romantically interested in, but these have a much different tone and often look either more expensive or elaborately handmade. So, hence why Ryuji was expecting that at least the protagonist would get some cheap "friendship" chocolates from their teammates. But even if it worked like in most western countries, you don't necessarily have to return the feelings if someone gives you a Valentine gift.
I agree with Ryuji though, why didn’t the girls get them chocolates? You can still give chocolates as friends. I’d be pretty hurt if I spent all that time with them, developing a bond and friendship and no chocolates to show that we had something.

They made it painfully clear that Ryuji prefers women. I mean, there is also older males in the game tho which i suppose would be taken if you can date teachers and stuff.

As far as I know there's no official statistics on their age, but to me it seemed all of the older women you could date in P5 were still in their 20s, or at most a hair over thirty and under normal circumstances definitely not old enough to have 16-17 year old kids of their own.
Well, it was obviously an exaggeration in case you couldn't tell dude/dudette.....my point was, these women are at least in their mid to late 20's. While its not old per say, its definitely an age gap. There is no way Takemi would have her own licence, practice and business and experience with med school and internship. I highly doubt she's that young.
Anyway, my point was, the option to chose someone of the same sex would not have been a terrible thing, and would not have been that unusual compared to a 16 year old boy dating a teacher. Just like noone forces the relationships on you in the game, none would have to force those kinds on you either....cause i know the natural response for some of these people involves mistaking that someone is trying to "force homosexuality" into something. And thats all I need to say on the matter.

And fair enough. I also found it a bit odd in P3P how female protagonist romancing pre-teen boy and what ever it is that goes on between her and Aigis at the end of latter's social link was apparently ok, but female peers we're a no-go as anything other than friends. I know Japanese developers don't really feel the need to push status-quo on things like that in their games, but it would still be nice to have as an option, especially when they clearly tease the idea with some of the P5's dialogue-options.

I havent actually played persona 3 yet, but i've coincidentally been really wanting to play it as of recent. So i plan on buying that and a psvita to play it on when I get the chance.
I also found it strange how the dialogue was very hinty. Some people say it was "baity" but i think its just for comedic purpose. I remember there being something about a female prtagonist when i looked it up. I just thought it was just gonna be one of those lazy reskin things that some game companies do. I also heard that there was a preteen character, and like you said, thats kinda weird for her to romance such a person.
I hear you. It's shame how black and white lot of these conversations seem to have become, with people jumping the gun at critisism of any kind if it's directed at something they like and feel passionate about.
I can see how it might feel a bit like half-measure though, when only female characters you can't romance are Velvet-twins and the prosecutor interrogating you, while closest we can get to dating guys is Joker throwing some vaguely flirty jokes at his male friends.
The Portable version of 3 might take a bit time to get used if you've played 4 and/or 5 before hand, because it has a lot more archaic gameplay and presentation, but once you get past that, the story is well worth it. Also female protagonist is definitely not just a reskin in this case, but affects several things in how the story plays out and complitely mixes up the social links. Also though it is worth playing the game with both of them to see how much things change around, I personally prefer female MC, because she feels more proactive out of the two, with her you get more insight on your male party-members and overall I feel she has better social links.

Seeing how cold Yusuke is to the girls that hit on him, I'm 99% sure he didn't return the feelings of the poor soul that gave him chocolates. He probably also got various chocolates from different girls, simply because he's handsome and a young artist with a tragic backstory.
I don't know if you are aware of how Valentines Day "works" in Japan and other parts of Asia... girls are very much pressured to give chocolates to most "close" workmates, to good friends that are not in a romantic relationship yet,
etc. And of course, to the person they are actually romantically interested in, but these have a much different tone and often look either more expensive or elaborately handmade. So, hence why Ryuji was expecting that at least the protagonist would get some cheap "friendship" chocolates from their teammates. But even if it worked like in most western countries, you don't necessarily have to return the feelings if someone gives you a Valentine gift.
