Mono leader is the ticket. I use 25lb leaders. After catching a few fish, just slide you fingers to feel the leader line for any damages. Change it if you can feel kinks in the line, if you dont change it then you may lose the next fish which could be your PB.

Sure thing. I was using the Whisker Seeker FMJ Rod Model 7'6" 1 piece MH. Main Line was RUNCL 60lb powerbraid. Leader line was 18inches of 25lb mono line tied to a 5/0 Gamakatsu circle hook. @@calloftheoutdoors8941 Do you like the 7’6” /MH or would you go for there 9’6” / H for bank fishing. I’m trying to decide between those two. I’m concerned about snapping the 7’6” with a 6oz weight plus bait. Also distance if that wound be important on sac river. Thanks again.
@@sevensmith9123 This is the only whisker seeker I have and you can cast a 6oz sinker, but it does bend quite a bit when I'm retrieving my bait which makes the retrieve difficult. So, I do think a rod with more backbone will work better if you are throwing 6oz weight and up. As for distance, I catch my stripers close to shore so I made my decision based on convenience of a shorter rod.

I totally understand. Just remember to be patient and don't set the hook when you get those small bites because they are undersized fish only. Allow your bait to have a chance for a big fish to come by and take it. And If the undersized fish pick your hook clean, oh well. You wouldn't be able to keep them anyways even if you were able to hook them small ones. BE Patient and good luck!

You are right that there are alot of shakers around, but I was out this last weekend and we slayed them. Im working on editing that video now. My suggestion is look for a spot that is a little deeper. They tend to hold the bigger fish.

Stripers are a year round fish in the sac. The majority of the fish are shakers once you get past the spring and fall run.
