I hate it when gameplay videos have to mute the music for "copyright" reasons, *especially* when that game has a kick-@$$ soundtrack like this! 🤦🏻♂️ Why can't we just share the music and games we love without losing sleep at night worrying it might get struck down?
This game definitely got the short end of the stick in regards to the PS1 port. The handling physics were like driving the car on ice, with it wanting to slip and slide around sharp corners, drifting about (ESPECIALLY when braking) and fighting with the car at times to keep the speed up. You could certainly get used to it with enough practice, but it definitely wasn't forgiving. Oh, and *try to avoid quickly weaving left and right. It WILL destabilize the car if done too much.* On top of that, the A.I. can be PUNISHINGLY difficult, especially in later cups. The Masters Cup being the worst offender, where the game restricts you to 10 randomly chosen starter vehicles (there's 10 races, and you have to drive a different car out of the 10 given to you per race), whilst the A.I. drive later, faster vehicles that won't appear in the rotation, putting you at a large disadvantage. Plus considering how unbalanced some vehicles are? Its absolute *hell* if you get a bad drop. You often have to try and run as clean as possible, at times a single crash in those later races can be what costs you the race. Rubberbanding is also hilariously bad. If you ever race on the bonus "Bez's Flat Circuit" track and pull away, the A.I. will often get 'stuck' and just sit in certain parts of the track. If you run into them, they'll suddenly propel forwards at INSANE speeds. There's a video here by MattJ155 that shows this off perfectly; th-cam.com/video/lXvGRiVp-yU/w-d-xo.html The PC port is definitely (imho) the best way to play this game. The physics are more forgiving, you have greater control of the vehicle, as it takes far more aggressive driving to get it to drift around corners, meaning its easier to keep your speed up. That, and the Masters Cup on the PC version will randomly choose between ANY vehicle, meaning you can get a drop with some of the game's fastest cars, making the cup far less painful to complete. Still though, an interesting title nonetheless, but definitely played a distant second place to NFS III.
I agree, the developers created the PS1 port worser than the PC version because of these ridiculous broken physics and rubberband, these problem are repeated in Test Drive 6.

Better? No, the game had bad vehicle modeling (you can notice the horrible big front in Camaro and Mustang), the physics in PS1 are broken, making the car slide randomly, turning are horrible, the car stops automaticly when the police pass in your front, the worse part is the fact that they doesn't pursuit the opponents and the AI in this PS1 version had a extreme rubberband. This looks bad like all the test drive games on ps1 especially compared to the need for speed games which has 3d car models,a character model, windows that you can see in,realistic car sounds, great weather system that also effects driving physics, cars have damage effects, great driving physics, and more
I remember renting this from blockbuster when it came out, was so hyped felt like this was the best racing game when i first saw it, never couldve imagined how advanced racing games would be by now. Though this came out in like 98? So 26 years old? Not bad! Wish we could have some type of project to redo all the tracks and cars on updated graphics but still have the same fun physics, would be so hype!
Ah yes Moscow with the Viper a true childhood classic start but I went with the color red with no stripes cause there was just something about it. But I only had this game for like 3 months before the cd ended up getting corrupted after that non of the tracks would fully load causing the race and game pretty much no playable. Tracks wouldn’t render which was a crushing moment for me but then I found Test Drive 4 and although test drive 5 was way new. TD4 still made me happy and also the game would never get corrupting :D.
Still had a ton of fun with the PlayStation version of this game, even though the PC version is a lot better. This is a great competitor to Need for speed 3, both games have similar concepts yet the driving feels authentic and action packed.
